Interest Check - Multiversal Crimefighters!

So this is an interest check for an RP that was brought up multiple times in the 'Looking for G Ms' thread.

The basic idea behind it was that players would take a character from any kind of media (be it anime, TV, movies, books, web shows, whatever) and reinvent them to be superheroes or supervillains in this big bustling city.

I'm taking a lot of cues from one of the most successful superhero R Ps in the forums- and one of my favorite R Ps- the Justice Avengers, so the city will be similar to New York, and the tone will be similar to the tone of the RP: mature, which doesn't mean Christopher Nolan-levels of darkness, but still lighthearted, which doesn't mean Silver Age levels of craziness. If you want some kind of comparison, it'd be in the same level as the recent Marvel movies, for example. And, just like Justice Avengers, your character can be a well-known veteran hero/villain, or someone who has just appeared on the scene.

In regards to how players would reinvent the characters, I think it would be awesome if we reworked the characters' backstories to this new city, giving them origin stories and new explanations for how they got their powers. You're free to use stuff from both Marvel and DC universes (the X-Gene or the Asgardian gods), but this is a world that hasn't seen Superman or Green Lantern or Iron Man yet, so imagine like the big names, the heroes that everyone know, still haven't showed up yet. Tony Stark will obviously exist in this universe, but Iron Man still hasn't got here yet. But, remember, like everything else I said so far, this can change.

All of this means we have a lot of worldbuilding to get to. But first, I'd like to know if there are enough people interested in the idea. Comments, critiques, suggestions... let's get started!

I remember seeing a Deviant Art where someone did drawings of mashups between Batman and Last Airbender characters. There was one of a Joker-ish Azula... I might use that...

Is it going to be like City Of Heroes except without made up heroes?

Off the top of my head, I have a kind-of crazy idea for a superhero, although I don't know if I'll go through with it.

Might give it a shot. Reading the description gave me an idea.

I'd like to wait until we got a decently sized group of players...

But let's talk about the world! I'd like to keep this all flexible so players can add stuff to the world's timeline without worrying so much. So, the RP will take place in an universe pretty much similar to ours. Every big and small event that changed the world happened- from the Middle Ages to the Portuguese arriving in Brazil, or from the Second World War to JFK's assassination, the timeline is the same... but nothing's saying that all events happened exactly the same, because, of course, we're gonna have superheroes and supervillains.

I think we should start by working out where all of this started. The two major comic companies have heroes who started way way back when, but the idea of 'superheroes' really started in World War II- Captain America's a big example. I won't go into much detail so we can, like I said before, add things as time goes by, but one thing set in stone is that public awareness to things like mutants and secret government projects like the supersoldier serum started in this era.

After that, of course we would have mutant civil rights movements appearing alongside the ones from the 60's... during the Cold War, all countries would probably be working on their own secret super projects... supervillains would also start appearing here... basically, this is where our worldbuilding would mostly focus on. What big-wig enterprises would exist? What big-wig institutions would exist? SHIELD? Some other shadowy corporation from a manga?

Basically, I only want to have some things set in stone, so we can add more as the players post their sheets. What do you guys think?

I think you should have the "set in stone" stuff be things from Marvel and DC, like SHIELD and Wayne Enterprises, with stuff from other universes being added in if players want to put them on their sheets- only if they have a good reason, of course, can't just add everything someone throws at you.

Like I said in the Looking for GMs thread, I'm pretty interested so, uh, yeah. Just need to figure out who to use...

...And really need to stop thinking of Souji Tendo, because that level of super speed is inherently broken and I've rejected people for having it and I don't want to be a hypocrite. Hurm. Maybe some other Rider, though... Or someone else. Gah, too many choices!

I'm working on some ideas for events that will happen in the game, and what the current state of this world is.

Also, I will be using Link, except the "Hero of Time" is like the Flash, a mantle that has been passed from generation to generation.
