Is offshore writing possible? Unless a British writer sending scripts to an American artist and editor is too much of a hassle?

As long as they speak English, yes. Hell, there's been a lot of artist import lately (particularly from the Philipines).

And this was the case even back in the days before the internet. (One of Superman's creators wrote for a British comic for a while without moving to England, for example.)

If I recall, Kieron Gillen is UK-based, and he writes for Marvel.

Dan Abnett and Andy Lanning also live in England but still write a fair amount for Marvel.
