That's okay, but it's not his best. Here's his best song:
Todd plus string quartet? I regret having fallen off the Todd wagon now (With a Twist was sort of the last straw for me, not to mention the elitist clusterf&#$ that was Patronet).
Fave albums:
- The Ballad of Todd Rundgren (post-Beach Boys pop perfection)
- Something/Anything? (not perfect, but a damn nice batting average for a double LP)
- A Wizard/A True Star (so crazy and brilliant, still one of my favourites of all time)
- Initiation (not liked by many, spiritualist Todd is just too esoteric for some, but I just love his highly innovative use of synthesizers)
- Nearly Human (ever the iconoclast, when everyone else was doing “Korg Workstation” productions, Todd made a mega-production with full brass and string sections. Tragically underrated, one of Todd’s finest purely pop albums. “Hawking” never fails to bring a tear to the eye and a lump to the throat. I first saw him live on this tour, what a fantastic show!)

Confirmed Bachelors: the dramedy hit of 1883!I hate it when good music is labelled as "pop". I'm partially kidding.
I also hate when people dislike what I like. 'Courage' is not his best song? Preposterous!
Observe more of his greatness, the uninitiated!
Something he released 2 years ago.
For those who don't know who the heck Todd Rundgren is, consider watching a 4 hour documentary about the man and the stuff he was involved in over the decades.
I don't think Todd Rundgren wants to watch four hours of Todd Rundgren footage! Holy crap.
I survived the experience, and so can anyone (including Todd Rundgren).
http://www.keezer.nl/trmo/ so here is a thing.
So I decided to take a listen of "Something/Anything?". Double albums tend to bore me but I'll try to get into this album. Just listened to the whole album but in many separate listens. I'll write what I think about the album after my second listen later.
Side Four is special for me due to the banters between the songs. I wouldn't mind having to listen the entire album with banters between all the songs. Todd and his company had a cool sense of humor.
One of the reason Something/Anything is more listenable as a whole to me than some other double albums is that all of the sides have distinct enough concepts that it's sort of like listening to four EP's by the same artist - Basically, side one is pop, side two is experimental, side three is hard rock, and side four has the full band, studio chatter thing.
Eh, I think side 3 is just kinda adrift but that definitely holds true for the other three. I mean "Black Maria", "Little Red Lights", and "Couldn't I Just Tell You" rock out, but the other two songs are as gentle as side one. Not really a complaint though.
Who knew the plot of Angry Birds was so deep it could inspire a song?
If any of you has not heard the news, Todd has released two studio albums in the span of a month, named "Global" and "Runddans". That guy has been busy for quite a while.
Oh, my experience with "Something/Anything" so far? I have never thought an album this accessible on surface requires a highly acquired taste to appreciate. Or maybe I'm dwelling on it too long. I'll finally evaluate the album later this month.
I am still waiting for Todd to start sucking. He keeps making new stuff, and it keeps not sucking.
Also, that second album is a collaboration.

All I've heard from Rundgren is Open My Eyes, from his time with the Nazz. What of his solo work is most like that?
He changed a lot since his humble beginnings in Nazz (occasionally changing back). Most of Todd's material is R&B mixed with hard rock and techno. The closest thing to Open My Eyes I can think of would be this track from 2008.
I bet there is a thread for Paul McCartney, but none for Todd??
Shame.
Observe his greatness!
