The world’s a strange place.

A really strange place, actually. Doubly so for you. Whatever you thought you knew about your past, about your world? Well, most of it’s probably still true. But some of it’s wrong.

See, the gods of mankind’s pagan faiths? They exist. In the old days, they wandered the Earth, amongst Man, until the nature of Fate forced their hand, whereupon they retreated to their own domains in the Overworld. At the dawn of time, they fought and imprisoned their parents, the Titans, sealing them away so they could no longer harm mankind.

However, the Titans have been released from their bonds. While they wage their wars on the gods in the Overworld, their minions - titanspawn and cultists alike - wreak havoc on Earth. The gods cannot save both mankind and defend the overworld, so they rely on their own soldiers in this conflict. These soldiers are Scions, children formed of a union between God and mortal, imbued with the supernatural essence of their parent and granted gifts with which to wage war upon the Titans and their spawn, and to eventually take a place at their parent’s side, waging the Overworld War as gods unto themselves.

However, let’s not get ahead of ourselves, here. You are a newly minted Scion, recently visited by your parent (or a convenient stand-in.) You are not yet even a demigod, simply a mortal capable of extraordinary feats, in a world that suddenly seems as if it’s eerily eager to take your life. You have been given a simple instruction: Go out into the world and find a Band, a group of likeminded Scions, and then hit the road, fighting the enemies of the Gods for the safety of humanity.

For your first task, you have been sent to Las Vegas, the city where dreams go to die, at the behest of your own parent. For what purposes you were needed, or even where to find your parent, you do not know. All you know is that you were told to be in a greasy diner at 3AM, and that you were told to expect company.

And thus begins your career as a professional monster hunter. Boy, aren’t you lucky?

Welcome to ‘’The Long Road to Heaven’’, a play-by-post Scion game. I have previously tried to run a forum RP, but unfortunately it crashed and burned when I realized I’d have no time on my hands, coupled with a few other commitments that made going through with it difficult. I have now opted to start a new one in a completely different setting, and with a different tone.

Simply put, Scion is about taking the old legends from the days of the pagan religions and reframing them to a modern world, to mix the mundane with the mythological and show how the two of them work together, and to distill the essence of what made these sagas and stories so important, and then making that work in a modern setting.

We won’t be using the Scion rules as established by White Wolf - I plan to keep this as freeform as I can - but in order to ensure some cohesion with the setting, I’ve made a character sheet here that you can use to create a character for the game. Much like with my Dresden Files RP before it, having access to the Scion ruleset isn’t mandatory, but if you have it, try and use it to create your character, just to make sure it fits into the setting. A list of available gods can be found here. Please go for canon gods from the six core pantheons. If you want to use a character from the fan-created ‘expanded core pantheons,’ give me a poke. The more in-depth this character sheet, the easier it will for me as a storyteller, so please be as detailed as you possibly can. If I don’t feel like there’s enough meat on the character sheet, I will reject it. You have been warned.

This isn’t exactly an ensemble story, but for the moment, I’ll open the proverbial signup floodgates and see how many people are interested before I hammer out exactly how this is going to go down.

Name: Adeline Hendricksen

Divine Parent: Odin

Calling: Wanted to be a scientist

Appearance: Adeline is a slender, very tall, blonde girl of about 18 years. Imagine a blond and green eyed cheerleader. She pretty much fits the stereotype.

Personality: Adeline loves to engage herself in things. She had tons of after-school activities, clubs, cheerleading and other hobbies. She can be interested in something new fairly easy and will not stop at it until her curiosity is slacked. She is very energetic, to the point where her friends and schoolmates sometimes get dragged along without knowing why. On a more negative side, she has inherited her fathers...romantic tendencies.

Nature: Libertine

Background and Visitation: Adeline grew up in the United States as the daughter of a chiropractician and his wife. Her life was pretty normal until a day she was called to the School Counsellors Office where a "Cousin" of hers introduced herself. Apologizing for crashing her life so far, he told her that 18 years before, her Mother had a one time thryst with a telephone repairman. This repairman turned out to be Odin Allfather himself. And she was the result of that union. With the current times getting more dangerous, her Cousin explained that her father wanted his children to be ready for whatever was coming. Granting her her birthrights, he smiled and left her one last sentence to ponder as he left: "You're a Wizard, Adeline"

Skills: Adeline had Skills in Academics, Athletics and Fortitude from before her Visitation. Since then she has added knowledge of the Occult, Investigation and some Melee and Brawl skills to her repertoire.

Birthright: Adeline has one Mentor/Follower, a Divine Raven named Nellig who claims to be related to Hugin and Munin. he acts as her Magic Teacher and Advisor. Furthermore, she got a set of Relics called "The Trappings Of Understanding": Two engraved metal bracers and a black cloth choker. One Bracer channels Mystery, the other Magic. The Choker channels Illusion.

Purviews: Magic, Mystery, Illusion

Epic Attribute/s: Epic Charisma, Epic Dexterity, Epic Perception

Prominent Virtue: Expression

Equipment: Adeline wears clothing normal for a young 18 year old girl. She chooses her clothing style to work her relics into them, with a slight Raven motive. Uncomfortable with "Real" weapons, she uses to telescope sticks as melee weapons, attending Eskrima classes. She's got a car. Nothing fancy.

  • Name: 1st Lieutenant Margaret ‘Red Maggie’ Blackwood

  • Pantheon: The Dodekatheon

  • Divine Parent: Ares

  • Calling: USMC 1st Lieutenant, 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, Force Recon

  • Appearance: 29, 5’6”, red hair commonly seen in a ponytail and blue eyes. She has a tattoo of her Marine battalion logo on her right bicep.

  • Personality: A very somber woman who has seen comrades die in front of her when they could have been saved and has let this color her worldview.

  • Nature: Cynic

  • Background and Visitation:
She joined up with the Marines right out of high school after cutting her hair and binding her breasts as well as lowering the pitch of her voice somewhat. Her ruse worked up until the weapons company she was part of was sent to Iraq in late 2005 with the rest of the battalion. Her ruse was found out when she was grazed with a bullet during a skirmish in a Fallujah sidestreet and her bindings were unwrapped, revealing her real gender. By that time, she had already reached the rank of 2nd Lieutenant, so the battalion’s CO realized if he sent her back home, he was wasting a tried and true asset, so he chose to ignore her gender, much to the displeasure of her fellow Marines, who weren’t pleased with the revelation. She attained the rank of 1st Lieutenant a few months later, when her CO was killed in a skirmish with some Iraqi rebels and she was nominally voted into the position, after cuttting open a path for her company to pull back to the battalion base camp. Her father showed up with a platoon of reinforcements when her weapons company was in danger of being overrun and was cut off from the rest of the battalion. He gave her a dagger, a ring and a bracelet that he said stole from other gods later that night in her command tent. She was outright skeptical of this and told him as much, but after a bit of an argument, she reluctantly accepted the gifts from her father.

  • Attributes: Margaret favors Dexterity and Stamina, with a side order of moderate Charisma.

  • Skills: She’s proficient with several types of firearms, having spent a decent of time in Iraq as the CO of a weapons company that saw heavy fighting in the Fallujah area. Particularly proficient with a sniper rifle, since she was part of the sniper squad before her promotion.

  • Birthrights:
    • Bronze Spear of Ares (Dagger) (War)
    • Bracelet of Apollo (Sun)
    • Ring of Hephaestus (Earth)

  • Purviews: War, Earth, and Sun

  • Epic Attribute/s (pick 3 at the most): Epic Dexterity, Stamina and Charisma

  • Prominent Virtue: Valor

  • Equipment: Margaret generally carries around a Beretta and a combat knife, the Beretta in a waist holster and the knife attached to a sheath on the back of her belt. Her traditional outfit is a tanktop and cargo pants with combat boots, with a open shirt on top.

Time grows thin, the past's a riddle; The Tower awaits you in the middle.

Name: Jacques "Jack" Hanton (Also known as the Black Jack or Cousin Skeleton)

Pantheon: The Loa

Divine Parent: Baron Samedi

Calling: Bokur Bad Boy

Appearance: Jack is a young dark skinned youth with curly black hair and a thin angular face. His features are almost emaciated and skelton like- as if he rarely eats well or something else has sapped the nutrition from his body. Despite this he still walks with a spring in his step, and a smirk, and he dosen't look disgusting per say.....Just a tad creepy. He dresses in a black hoodie and jeans- under the hood a tired and dirty "Hawthorne Height" t shirt, under which he appears to be wearing a net shirt. If anyone would get close enough to see his arms out of the sleeves, they might be able to pick up the healed track marks that are steadily starting to fade. Mostly.

Personality: Jack- like his father- is a hard guy to get a read on. His personality can be erratic and wild, he can be cracking jokes and laying out dry snark one moment, and a jittery violent mess the next. Most of the time, Jack tries to stay "put together" main as a strategy for staying on the wagon since he got out of court-ordered rehab. He is often irritable and grumpy, and he is caged off to most anyone- with the natural exceptions of his girlfriend Christina and of his ghostly room mates/backup support. Jack's natural nature tends him to dealing with the dead and the underworld his father rules. Though he will balk at his father's requests and stamp his foot and angst, he will still gladly help any wayward spirit or zombie find their way back to the grave. Jack considers himself a Bokur- a dark Voodoo sorcerer- while at the same time insisting that ultimately he keeps and aids the balance more by using his powers to strike vengeance, then if he simply focused on maintaining it. How much of this he actually believes and how much is bullshit to excuse his rebellion against his father isn't entirely clear- even to himself. However, if the Baron has taken issue with his son's growing use (And addiction to) dark Voodoo, he hasn't said, and it hasn't stopped him from sending his son out on missions- mostly against his enemies.

Nature: Trickster

Background and Visitation: Jack has the same old story a lot of street kids can claim- a broken home where he never knew his father an education at the school of back alley vocations. Jack spent all his life running away- usually with someone's stolen wallet in his hand- until one day he couldn't run anymore. Cornered by angry spirits for the first time and unable to sooth them, Jack was on the edge of sure death- when his father turned up and gave him his birthrights, and empowered him at last. Jack however, was less then thrilled to meet up with the man he had spent all his life missing- god or no. The Baron didn't seem to notice or care, and just so ever since. Unfortunately for Jack, that was only the tip of a long dangerous ice burg.

Attributes:

  • Primary: Mental
    • Wits
    • Intellect
    • Perception

  • Secondary: Social
    • Charisma
    • Manipulation

  • Tertiary: Physical

Skills: Jack is an incredible thief with amazing skill at running away really fast, he can't stand up in a fight, but he can sure as hell avoid most. He's also relatively good at lying. Jack is also a Bokur- and thus heavily skilled in the voodoo arts, for what that is worth.

Birthright: Jack has three rather important birthrights- a bo staff (Magic), a ruby ring (Death), and a Mask (Cheval and Darkness Purviews). The staff is used whenever he works "real" or "major" magic, while the Ruby Ring gives him the power to sense and interact with the dead, meanwhile the Mask lets him see in the dark....and through the eyes of his enemies. Jack also has a group of free loading ghosts that fallow him around and live in his apartment- he can call on them occasionally to help him out in a fight (They are mostly the spirits of recently dead teenagers from around New Orleans of the hipster and party kid verity).

Purviews: Magic, Death, Cheval, and Darkness

Epic Attribute:Wits

Prominent Virtue: Vengeance

Equipment: A Glock Handgun he always keeps on him, and his hearse (tacky, but effective for transporting dead bodies and sprites)

[up][up][up]

Both of these look pretty good.

[up][up] Considering that this is the fourth or fifth time I've seen you pull this 'post an unfinished character then work out the details' thing, I'm going to say no, you need to either post a finished character or not do one at all. Please start from scratch with a new Scion if you still want to continue.

Double posting to mention a couple of things:

1) Still looking for signups. If you're interested, don't hesitate.

2) Maybe hesitate a little. Sound weird?

You see, I'll be indisposable for the week starting on Monday the 18th until Friday that week because I'm going on tour with a band. I'll still be able to type, but it'll likely be from the back of a car or from some hotel or school where we'll be performing. So I might hold off on starting the actual game until after the tour so I won't run the risk of the game crashing before it's even begun.

Name: Ken T Ibis (the middle initial doesn't stand for anything, in the tradition of Harry S Truman)

Pantheon: Pesedjet

Divine Parent: Thoth

Calling: Bookstore owner

Appearance: Ken is in his late thirties, although his receding hairline sometimes makes people think he's older. He keeps meaning to shave it all off, but somehow never seems to get around to it. His below-average height, exacerbated by his habitual stoop, helps give people the impression of a Middle-Eastern gnome, or perhaps a hobbit. He dresses like an English professor, complete with elbow patches on his jacket, and wears a pair of round glasses that tend to reflect the light at dramatic moments.

Personality: Ken's always felt more comfortable around books than people, and considered most of his customers a necessary evil. He does enjoy the company of people who share his love of learning, especially if he gets to provide the new information. His reaction to all this godly business is a mixture of frustration at how ridiculous the whole idea of all these unrelated mythologies existing simultaneously (he finds it more likely that they're tulpas than the creators they claim, but has the sense not to say so to their faces) and excitement at the chance to meet the wonders he's only read about.

Nature: Pedagogue

Background and Visitation: Ken was born about when his parents graduated college, although his mother found a solid career soon enough that he doesn't remember the lean times. Most of Ken's childhood was spent in some secluded corner with his nose in a book, and he would probably have remained content making that his vocation until the day he died had Thoth not dropped by the store one day to identify himself both as the Egyptian god (convincingly enough to shut the mortal up) and as the astronomy professor that his mother had had an affair with on the night of his conception. Ken doesn't feel he owes the god anything for sleeping with his mother, but on the other hand, a chance to see a sedja with his own eyes? Or to conclusively pin down what the heck kind of animal Set's head is supposed to represent? He wouldn't dream of turning it down.

Attributes: As befits his scholarly profession, Ken has impressive Intelligence and Perception. He also possesses the Dexterity for careful restoration of damaged books, the Stamina for long nights researching, and the Manipulation to disguise his resentment when someone intrudes on his book collection to buy something from him.

Skills: Ken knows quite a bit, and is skilled at finding out more if need be. In game terms, he has high Academics, Investigation, Occult, and Science. He's also a surprisingly good shot with a Thrown object.

Birthrights: Before Thoth left his newly met son's shop, he took the liberty of annotating a translation of The Book of Gates, letting Ken use it to channel the Guardian, Health, Psychopomp and Sun Purviews. He left behind the quill pen he used to mark it up, which Ken can use to call upon the power of the noble pigeon. Not like there are a lot of ibises about.

Epic Attributes: Intelligence and Perception

Prominent Virtue: Order

Equipment: Pepper spray, pockets full of substances reputed to efficacious against creatures of legend, at least three writing implements, e-reader full of books, and a flashlight and Swiss army knife, just in case.

Name: Kimiko Sala

Pantheon: The Amatsukami

Divine Parent: Susano-o

Calling: To lead a Marxist-Leninist Vanguard party in revolution in a capitalist state.

Appearance: As a half-Cuban/half-Japanese girl in her mid 20s, Kimiko is rather tall with short black hair. She tends to have a fiery look to her. Her eyes are blue-green and are reminiscent to a stormy sea. She has well-defined muscles.

Personality: Kimiko is brash and prone to anger, but has the intelligence to keep that under wraps. She acts coldly calculating, but never empty of passion. She has a deeply ingrained sense of justice and will not hesitate to act to fight any injustices she encounters. She views herself as a leader, revolutionary, intellectual, and visionary. She idolizes Che Guevara and seeks to become like him.

Nature: Visionary.

Background and Visitation: Kimiko's mother, Esperanza Sala, was a Cuban revolutionary in the 26th of July Movement under Fidel Castro, though serving more directly under Che Guevara. One day, late in late 1958, they found themselves in an ambush, surrounded by government forces, all seemed doomed, when, out of nowhere, strode a man who looked Japanese. In a flash, he had crossed from one side of the government forces and drawn his blade. Behind him, gashes appeared on the soldiers who were in his path and they all screamed. The government turned on him, but, by the time they had, he had leaped out of sight into a nearby tree. Before they could find him, he leaped from his perch, like a falcon swooping down to strike hos prey, twirling his sword and landing on the ground with a small shockwave knocking the surrounding soldiers back. Using this as an opportunity, Che yelled for all to come attack, and they came out of the jungle firing. The government soldiers broke formation and fled. The mysterious man sheathed his sword, grinning. Before they could approach him to thank him for what he had done, he was gone. Her mather, though, was stricken by his beauty, bravery, and skill, and, despite never speaking to him, she had fallen in love. Yet, she never expected to see him, again, so, as the fighting came to a close and peace was established, she threw herself into building the new socialist state.

It wasn't until years later that she would meet the mysterious man once more. In 1975, she deployed to Angola to help with the Marxist-Leninist revolution there, this time as a ranking officer. There she stayed for the rest of the 1970s and well into the 1980s. In the late 1980s, with the fighting now a Civil War, she found herself in a familiar situation. ambushed by enemy forces. Surrounded and out numbered. She wasn't religious, but, just this once, she remembered what her own mother had taught her, and prayed to be saved. With a feeling of deja vu, she saw the mysterious man once more. In an instant, he had cut through the enemy ranks like the first time. She knew she was saved. With a grin on her face, she led a charge on the enemy forces as the mystery man attacked the enemy force. The enemy force broke ranks and fled. This time, the mystery man did not disappear as quickly as he came. He recognized her, and complimented her for her bravery. As sundown quickly approached, they were forced to set up camp cut off from allies, and the mystery man joined them. That night, she invited him into her tent. There she confessed to him that she had always loved him since they first met all those years ago. He seemed pleased with this, and, that night, they made love. The next morning, though, he was gone, leaving behind only a single strip of cloth with Kimiko written on it.

And, thus, her mother returned to Cuba where Kimiko was born. She raised Kimiko with the stories of her father and the two wars Esperanza had fought in. Esperanza told her of the bravery of the revolutionaries and the reasons why they had rebelled in the first place. Kimiko grew up on these stories of adventure and revolution. The revolutionaries, especially Che, became heroes, to her, and she longed to be like them. However, she was always the odd-one out thanks to her looks, and spent her childhood a loner, often getting into fights with other kids, and usually winning. Still, she excelled in school and she got into the University of Havana. There she studied political science and history. She spent long hours studying so as to become a member of the intelligentsia of a Vanguard Party to come. In addition, she trained herself for battle, including the use of guns. She graduated after 4 years and began to work on her Master's Degree.

Two years later, she had completed her Master's, and was once more preparing for graduation. However, the day before, word reached her that her mother had a stroke and died. She was distraught, and what should have been a day of celebration turned into a day of sorrow. She held back tears at her graduation, managing to keep composed, but she didn't celebrate it as she had hoped. Instead, she spent her night crying alone at home. Or, at least, she was going to. When she returned home, she found a mysterious man waiting for her. She was shocked and surprised, unsure of how he got in. He greeted her and offered her a seat. But she wouldn't have any of that, and demanded to know who he was. He smiled and simply said, "Your father." He proceeded to prove that by telling, in detail, how he had met her mother, both times. But she objected that it couldn't be true for he was still young. To that, he only laughed. He is older than he looked, he explained, for he was no ordinary person. Quite the contrary, he was the god Susano-o, brother of Amaterasu. She was shocked. He continued to explain that his children are, as such, Scions of a god, and have special powers, but only if they have received a visitation from their parents. He explained, without pausing to let her speak, that he had been watching her through her childhood. He recognized the fire burning in her soul. He relished in how she had developed, and he felt she had earned this right. So he was here to awaken within her the power of a god. Himself, to be precise. With that, she felt great power well up within her. He rose, her face fixed with a stunned expression and headed for the door. Before leaving, he told her, "I have given you great power. Do with it what you will and don't let anyone or anything stop you." With that parting remark, he disappeared into the streets of Havana, leaving an ornate sword on her table.

That night, she contemplated what she would do, now, with what she had just learned and gained. She had originally planned to return for her mother's funeral, but she couldn't get her father's parting words out of her head. The funeral didn't seem worth it anymore. She needed to get out there and use her power to create a new world. She disappeared in the dead of the night and left the country in secret, taking the sword with her.

Attributes: As an amateur tactician and an wannabe member of a revolutionary vangaurdist intelligentsia, her primary ability is mental focusing on her wits and intellect. Secondarily, as a wannabe revolutionary, is her physical, especially her stamina. Finally, as a loner most of her life, her social is her lowest.

Skills: Kimiko is well trained with guns and can hold her own in a fight. She is well-versed in politics having a Master's in Political Science. She also has studied leading people in battle. This translates to good Brawl, Marksmanship, Politics, Academics, and Command.

Birthrights: Totsuka-no-Tsurugi which grants her the Sky and Water Purviews, amplifies fighting ability (adds her Legend to any roll using Melee, in game terms), and is more deadly (bonus to damage, in game terms).

Purview: Sky and Water.

Epic Attributes: Wits, Intellect, and Stamina.

Prominent Virtue: Valor

Equipment: Kimiko has an AKM, a Markov PM, a combat knife, 5 RGD-5 grenades, and survival gear. She has a full military get-up stolen from the Cuban military which she wears if she is expecting to need to fight and nondescript pants and shirts which she usually wears to avoid suspicion. She has a duffle bag for carrying her gear around.

I really want to join this RP... however my first option a Child of Artrmis seems a bit redundant with the other sharpshooters and agility heroes there are. Hmmm what do you think would round up the group best GM? An Social champion like a child of Aphrodite perhaps?

Hmmm if you mean for the game to be more battle oriented, I may go with the Artemis child regardless of others already being marksmen. If you want a bit of a more balanced party and don't mind someone that solves their problems by being very pretty then I'll go with Aphrodite. I think both ways can be very fun.

Alright, here is the Child of Artemis I spoke off.

I may still make the sheet for the Child of Aphrodite and see how it turns out before deciding... though at the moment, this is what I'm going with.

  • Name: Samantha Douglass
  • Pantheon: The Dodekatheon
  • Divine Parent: Artemis
  • Calling: Heroine
  • Appearance: Samantha is a young woman, right on the last of her teenage years. Her single most striking feature are her keen, sharp eyes, of a light brown color that is near amber and slightly reminiscent of a hawk's due to their intensity. Her hair hangs about halfway down her back and while naturally midnight black she has dyed it a vivid brown color with a single lock in bright pink to the left. She's slightly shorter than average, with a slim though athletic build to her form. She has fair skin naturally, though she is quite tanned due to quite a lot of outdoors activity. Samantha gives a bit of a sense of contained energy, of the taught string of a bow ready to be released into motion.
  • Personality: At the moment, Samantha is an utterly driven individual, quick to the point and quite honest. Unable to stand bullies or cruelty, she has fully embraced her role as a Hero and the responsibility such power brings her. Such responsibility extends in her mind to the point of constant self improvement and hard work in her marksmanship and physical fitness. More than being right, a Hero must be strong enough to be able to stand before adversity and change the world for the better. As such, Samantha embraces the concept of Arete from her Divine Parent, striving for constant perfection in form and movement. Having been a bit of a tomboy her entire life, on her Divine mother's prompting she's trying to branch out and try to embrace her feminine side for once. The progress on this front is slow, but the small dips she has taken in that direction haven't been as bad as she initially imagined.
  • Nature: Gallant
  • Background and Visitation: Loooong story  Born to an excursionist and the God Apollo, Samantha had a life deeply connected to the woodland areas and exploring the wilds with her mother. Given her natural gifts and the wrong crowd when she was a young child she became a bully, preying on the weak and making their life impossible. However, things got turned on their head when she reached middle school, where her straightforward nature and tomboyish manner were more of a hindrance than a help. Due to her pride and ill temper she promptly got the position of most unpopular in the school and was bullied in a less physical scarring way than she inflicted... but no less cruel. During this time she took solace in archery and her woodland excursions as sanctuaries of personal peace. By the time high school arrived, she had matured and became humbler, thus avoiding the same pitfall that led to her bullying back in her old school. However, she became less and less able to ignore the pain of those around her. In an ill fated prank her classmates inflicted, a pair of students where dumped into the woods, where a monster hunted them down. Away from civilization the beast expected to be able to make a nice meal of them. Samantha proved herself to Lady Artemis in her efforts to rescue these students deep within the woodlands, and thus got visited and granted her birthrights. After these events Samantha became a more driven and focused woman, spending only a couple months to do some house cleaning on her old school before taking to the road to follow her destiny as a Hero for a year. At the end of it, she got a message from her Godly Parent to make her way to a particular dinner in Las Vegas.

  • Skills: Samantha is skilled at Survival, Marksmanship, Awareness, Empathy, Brawling, Sneaking, Riding, Swimming, Climbing and all sort of Athletics.
  • Birthright: Samantha received four Birthrights from the day she got adopted by her Divine Parent, Artemis. The first and most powerful of them is her bow, Crescent, a powerful weapon that lets her channel her Moon Purview. It is quite useful in that it doesn't ever run out of arrows and its Divine status improves its utility as a weapon as expected of such a relic. The other two birthrights are kind of related. The pendant she obtained that day is a means of summoning five assistants to help Samantha in her everyday life. These are three dryads and two daughters of Okeanos, all spirits of nature of light power. They provide utility in battle by carrying their own bows, though they are far from the skill of a true warrior in battle being more huntresses than soldiers. Aside from that, they can pass off as human and assist in any number of tasks similarly to Artemis own retinue. Finally, Samantha carries a silver bracelet around her left wrist which allows her access to the Health Purview.
  • Purviews: Moon (Her Bow), Health (Bracelet), Arete
  • Epic Attribute/s: Epic Dexterity, Epic Perception
  • Prominent Virtue: Valor

She owns a a long, light bag made for transporting her bow and arrows slung over her shoulder. She has a leather wallet instead of a purse, where she keeps her money, ID, photo of her and mom and a couple of credit cards. She owns a smartphone which tends to be her main way of obtaining information about what's going on around the country. On a pack she has most of what she may need for an excursion into the woods, as well as a long range radio and a combat knife. On another pack, she has the items she may need for everyday care as well as some changes of clothes. Finally, she owns motorcycle and helmet which is her primary means of moving around the country without having to check her magic bow through any airlines.

Just a general thing: A Calling shouldn't be more than one or two words that sums up your character. 'Revolutionary,' 'Doctor,' 'Athlete,' 'Actor,' that sort of thing.

Also, the lack of punny names disturbs me.

[up] A pretty solid personality to work with. I'd cut down the backstory a little bit, at least the parts written here, because that way some of it gets to come out in the game instead of as text here. The character's approved, but you might want to abridge and tighten up the backstory just a little bit. Try and find the important bits and highlight them instead.

Still not embarrassing enough to stan billionaires or tech companies.

Made the relevant edits, though somehow the abridged version of the story still looks long @.@

[up] Hey as long as she was not a bully! tongue Though she'd probably be naturally wary of the type.

Alright, I've settled on Tlaloc for my character's divine parent. Is it just me, or is it strange that a god of travel and exploration not given control over Psychopomp and its largely direction-based powers?

Anyway, the concept I'm working with right now is basically Adventurer Archaeologist. Is that alright with the setting?

Edit: It would probably work better with the setting if I could spell 'archaeologist'.

Ideally backstory shouldn't be too long because that way, the players can learn something in-game too tongue

[up] And that works perfectly fine.

  • Name: Giovanna l’Alessio

  • Pantheon: The Aesir

  • Divine Parent: Hel

  • Calling: Hitwoman

  • Appearance: 5'8" woman with fair skin, shoulder-length blonde hair and hazel eyes. She has a medium-sized scar across her cheek in the shape of a line, created when a bullet grazed her cheek during a contract.

  • Personality: On a contract, she’s coldly professional and matches her behavior to the details of the contract that she’s given. For instance, if she was hired to kill a businessman with a penchant for vapid blondes, she’d dye her hair blonde and act like a utterly brainless ditz to get close to him before ending his life. She gets along with other people relatively well, but only people she’s come to trust with her life and she can trust to watch her back, which are few and far between. Those people that she hasn’t come to trust with her life yet, she views with a degree of wariness, and it takes a fair deal of effort to gain her trust, but very little effort to arouse her temper, since she believes that everyone only sees her as a beautiful woman who’s only good as arm candy.

  • Nature: Loner

  • Background and Visitation: She grew up in the Italian countryside to a father who was a high-ranking member of the Camorra Mafia, her mother having left without a word the morning after she was born. Her early childhood and adolescence was spent growing up around various members of the Mafia and their children, since her father would frequently visit them, and it was in her mid-adolescence when she realized she could see the recently deceased. She eventually fell into the life of a hitwoman for the Mafia after managing to persuade her father to allow her to join despite her gender, since she’d grown up around them and was inured to their lifestyle, killing her conscience to do the jobs that were asked of her once she was accepted as part of the family, some more bloody than others. Her mother appeared to her as beggar with a face that was heavily scarred on one side, but beautiful on the other side while she was on a contract in Caserta to kill a local businessman who was delving too deeply into affairs that didn’t concern him, and gave her a task; to have three people who didn’t realize that they were dead pass on, and gave her a gun that would let her accomplish this. Upon the successful completion of the tasks. her mother revealed her nature as the goddess of the dead and let her keep the gun, telling her to go to a particular hotel in Las Vegas after the completion of her contract before vanishing. Puzzled but curious, she took the next available flight to Vegas after the completion of her contract, ending up at the hotel that her mother told her to visit, and entered, not knowing what was in store for her….

  • Attributes: Dexterity, Stamina, Intelligence, Appearance

  • Skills: She uses her beauty and her tongue to get close to her targets, particularly those who are well guarded. If she fails to get close to her target using her primary methods, she relies on her weapons to get the job done, having a decent amount of proficiency with firearms, growing up around the Mafia. She also is proficient with blades, having received a butterfly knife for her 15th birthday, and practiced with it for a small period each day until she was good with it.

  • Birthrights: A gun given to her by her mother as a gift for completing the task that was set for her that channels the Death purview. The purpose of the gun is that it allows her to put the dead to rest.

  • Purviews: Death

  • Epic Attribute/s (pick 3 at the most): Epic Dexterity, Epic Appearance and Intelligence

  • Prominent Virtue: Endurance

  • Equipment:
    • Butterfly knife
    • Glock Compact
    • Multiple sets of clothes for her contracts

Time grows thin, the past's a riddle; The Tower awaits you in the middle.
