I had an idea for an RP inspired by Sword Art Online (but not based off of it) where the players are all player characters in an MMORPG/Virtual Reality simulation where they are stuck in the game and must beat it to return home. You die in the game, you die in real life.
However, I'm not sure what setting I want to use, if any. There would be definitive player factions and player classes, or at least player factions and subgroups. However, I do not know what I want to use for the setting. I want to use a pre-existing published setting, although I could cobble my own universe.
Here's a list of universes I have considered using as a setting for the in-game MMO.
