Hmm, neither of them really fits the characters as I envisioned them, but I hope they can change that with make-up etc. I definitely agree with your suggestion of Alun Armstrong as Segundus, not really familiar enough with the other actors to comment.
I love that this book is getting an adaptation. It's fantastic.
Thanks for posting.
Oh, more news linked to here:
An Alice Anglert will be Lady Pole; Enzo Clienti will be Childermass; Charlotte Riley will be Arabella Strange, and Paul Kaye will be Vinculus (which makes so much sense if you are familiar with his role in Game of Thrones).
Marc Warren was also cast as someone(perhaps the Gentleman?) as was a Samuel West.
Edit- According to the comments and confirmed by the actor/IMDB, a Ariyon Bakare will be Stephen Black.
Edit2- This tumblr says that Warren is indeed the Gentleman (perfect casting there) and that West is Sir Walter Pole. Its kind of strange- it seems like there's some inside sources giving more info on the roles of some of the actors who have been publicized as being cast.

Edit, edit, edit, edit the wikiMarc Warren as the Gentleman? My expectations for this series are rapidly going up.
I read several months back about the BBC filming a tv adaptation of Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell, and recently, it was indicated that the eponymous pair had been cast, as well as the actor Peter Bowles in an unidentified role.
As noted in the linked article, not necessarily the most intuitive selection (in particular, Norell reads as a crotchety old man, which makes his casting seem a bit young), but I'm interested to see what happens.
Wondered about people's thoughts/fancasts.
For a few random suggestions:
