Original Generations: Dream of Mirrors - Signup thread!

So I was wondering about how this RP would start. Would our characters begin in their own universe, and pass through a mirror, ending up wantering around alone for a while, or would they just show up in a single place beyond all the mirrors in one confusing group?

I might join, not sure what I'd be though.

Interested, not sure if to make a character who's from the Sailor Moon-verse or maybe the Madoka-verse. This will require a little more thinking.

So here she is. Please note that I am totally open to modifying things to suit the game. This is my first attempt at a character from the Madoka-verse, and apologies for the length, especially of the backstory, got a little carried away there.

•Name: Yuzuru Naoto

•Age: 15

•Gender: Female

•Appearance: Typical mundane appearance., magical girl costume consists of a semi-ruffled Kelly green skirt, white sleeveless top under a slightly darker green vest/bodice (laced with ribbon matching the skirt's color), elbow length white gloves, knee high forest green stockings, skirt-and-bodice-matching ankle boots with little bows on the tongues and her hair hanging straight.

•Universe: Puella Magi Magica Madoka

•Backstory: Things were pretty unremarkable for Yuzuru: life was the predictable pattern of get up, breakfast, school, lunch, more school, homework and sleep (with the occasional dinner). She wasn't the most popular girl, at most just kind of blending into the sea of faces in the classroom. While she had a few friends she was nowhere near a match for her twin sister Sakura. A lot of times she was just happy to tag along with her sister, who initially was happy to let her join the fun. It all changed a couple of months before summer break when suddenly her sister began skipping out of school early or not showing up at all. When she *was* around she was oddly distant and cold to her sister, claiming that Yuzuru was just an annoyance who'd get in her and her friends' way. Sometimes Sakura would grudgingly allow her goofy, somewhat awkward sister come along on the most mundane of outings - karaoke, dinner, shopping. Typical activities for a teenage girl, really.

Around the same time there was a strange uptick in suicides and disappearances in town, which was only discussed in hushed tones by students and explained away by authorities. Yuzuru meanwhile figured out that Sakura was sneaking out of their house at night and decided it would be a good idea to follow her. Maybe she'd be allowed to join in whatever presumably fun thing was taking place.

Weirdly this didn't lead to a secret party, karaoke or a hot date; Sakura went to an alleyway and then some kind of weird opening appeared in the wall. Thinking it safe Yuzuru ran through as well and immediately became lost in a nightmarish menagerie of monstrous plush toys (amongst other things). Attempts to find her way back to the entrance only served to cause her to become increasingly lost. Ultimately she was confronted with her first Witch, which with a horrid shriek began pursuing her through the hellish maze. And then.. it was all over. The Witch writhed and collapsed to the ground before dissolving, a javelin lodged in its torso or at least the nearest thing it had to one. As a strange black object took the place of the monster, Yuzuru spotted a girl in a frilly outfit standing there; it was her sister. Crazy as it seemed her sister appeared to be cosplaying as a magical girl.

The truth, of course, was more shocking still. Her sister being a magical girl explained things in a way that seemed better than sneaking out for dates. Yuzuru was an avid viewer of magical girl TV programs and just finding out they really existed was pretty great. Knowing her sister was one, battling evil creatures that as she explained were causing people harm, made Yuzuru feel a lot better. Though Sakura warned her not to try it herself, Yuzuru couldn't help but be deeply interested. Certainly better than being just plain old Yuzuru, right? More than that she really wanted a way to spend time with her sister again.

So when she was approached by an odd but cute talking animal about making a contract, Yuzuru only needed to think of a wish to be granted in exchange. She couldn't help but think of how tired Sakura had been looking recently, how little time she had for something fun. So she decided it would be best to wish for her sister to enjoy a nice weekend at a beach (like they'd enjoyed in the past) once more. That was the exact wording she'd used when she made her conract. Helping her sister was Yuzuru's true desire, but she thought she'd be able to do that by joining in on Witch hunts. It was surprisingly painful during the first transformation but then they really did get that beach weekend. On Sunday evening at midnight, though, they had their first-and last-Witch hunt. Sakura was stunned that her sister had made a contract, even somewhat furious and this led to a spirited argument. After which the more experienced magical girl went off on her own. In the end they beat the Witch, but then her sister fled before taking the resulting grief seed.

The next day Sakura was nowhere to be found, but another Witch needed hunting. Going solo Yuzuru made pursuit and found herself surrounded by weird but strangely familiar imagery. Something wasn't right about this one. When confronted with the Witch she did her duty but was given an odd comment about how this grief seed was a special gift in a way. After a while all those images which had seemed so familiar suddenly made sense as Yuzuru thought about it. And the more she thought about it the more she realized that, horrifyingly, her sister might have something to do with that particular Witch.

Particularly when Sakura's body was found a few days later with no obvious cause of death. A few weeks more of the magical girl business took their toll on her psyche. When she finally asked she was told how that 'special gift' had been from her sister. That it'd helped Yuzuru cleanse her own soul gem. That in a way her sister was now part of her. More horrified still she tried to run as far away from the creature that had granted her powers, spending time away from anyone close to her as she worked out her thoughts. All the while she could hear that creature's voice in her head, trying to convince her of its terrible perspective. Finally she thought maybe she could do something to find a way out.. and then tripped, launching headlong into a mirror.

•Personality: Time as a magical girl in her world changed Yuzuru. Once goofy and a little awkward both physically and socially, the regular grind of fighting witches quickly made her a little more irritable and kind of cynical. There were always more Witches to fight no matter how many you hunted down and she was just one girl against the whole lot (or so it seemed to her). She gets uncomfortable if she thinks people are trying to get too close to her, wanting to spare them the danger that surrounds her life. Yuzuru can get pretty paranoid if either alone or in an enclosed area, constantly looking over her shoulder as if something terrible will await her there. After what happened to her sister the idea that any other girls might become magical girls both upsets her and drives her forward.

Yet the idea that she has something left of Sakura that's part of her (or the soul in a jar she carries with her) actually gives her a comforting feeling. In that way they're together at least. Yuzuru also possesses a grim determination to find something good to do with her powers before her time comes, something that will actually help people. Inside her serious, grim shell there is still a flame of the old flickering. Isolated as she is, Yuzuru knows she'd like friends or at least compatriots. Anything to make her feel less like the whole universe is against her.

•Equipment: Yuzuru is in possession of an egg-sized green soul gem bordered by golden accoutrements. In addition to being her actual, literal, soul it is also the source of her magical powers. Other than that just the clothes on her back, a backpack with a few odd school supplies (a notebook, pencil, Penguin-shaped eraser, ruler and science textbook) and 473 yen in assorted coins.

•Abilities: All the standard traits of magical girls in her world apply - ability to transform into one/back from one, increased physical durability so that she can withstand battles with Witches, sensitivity to mazes that witches hide in (i.e. limited ability to track them). Her powers also allow her to summon a whip as a weapon, which generally pulsates with green magical energy when cracking into action. As a heightened version of this attack she can summon one for each hand and wield them with considerable talent, or increase the size/length of a single one. Though looking like something more out of Indiana Jones (with a little CGI thrown in), they actually have the ability to slice through solid objects and are especially dangerous to magical entities like Witches. Use of her abilities requires a grief seed to cleanse her soul gem, of course, so prolonged use is a slippery step towards doom.

Is this RP idea still alive, or no?

It is, it's just taking some time for us to catch up on things.

Can I use a character from another RP?

It depends, were they an original character from a canon setting?

More like an original character from a setting that was 'collectively' canon. Ever hear of WAAPT?

Well, Anno is the co-GM, but... Hmmm.

If it's a Pokemon OC, I guess that would be okay... Even if I'm not too big a fan of any of the "We Are All..." games (although that's mostly due to stylistic differences but yeah). So, uh, yeah, Pokemon OC would be okay I guess, unless you're planning on using stuff exclusive to that RP as canon in which case it probably wouldn't be allowed.

We Are All Pokemon Trainers is actually very regular RP-like once you get past the first couple of arcs (Script RP posts non-withstanding)

I don't remember Philosopher's character, but I think they'd probably be ok in this setting, provided that yeah they don't take anything that's WAAPT Canon only.

Then again, I'm not a GM.

After some consideration I think it's best if I just make a character not tied to any already established RP.

That doesn't mean he/she won't be WAAPT-inspired.
