It's probably just what he's going to start with before upgrading to a more professional superhero costume.

[up][up]I know, but that costume first appeared in that movie, so that's what I'm going to associate it with.

I wonder if they'll be able to use Ben's nephew Phil. It's doubtful (and since they wouldn't ever be able to use the thing that makes him interesting, it's probably moot), but it just popped in there.

Hey, look, he's wearing something a person would actually wear while prowling around on rooftops, illegally breaking into places, and dropkicking mobsters.

Yeah, when I watch my superhero shows, I know I want them to be as realistic as possible.

The last hurrah? Nah, I'd do it again.

When I read my superhero comics, I want things to be as realistic as possible. Why should shows and movies be any different?

Frankly, the idea that the superhero genre MUST, by definition, be a cartoon with absolutely no grounding in reality whatsoever in order to exist is downright insulting to the quality of many incredible comics.

It's a moot point because he's probably not going to be wearing that the entire series. Has nobody ever watched Iron Man or Captain America: The First Avenger? Or even the original Spider-Man?

The hero going through a costume evolution starting with a ratty homemade outfit is pretty much a trope in its own right at this point.

Exactly!

Besides, Murdock's standard costume IS a ratty, homemade outfit. Most costumes from the "amateur vigilante" sector of the superhero world are. Swap the black for dark red and glue plastic horns to his forehead and there you go, classic DareDevil costume.

[up][up][up]I disagree rather strongly with the assertation that realism is equal to quality.

Kristen Ritter to play Jessica Jones. Probably. It's not completely official but she definitely has the inside track. I've also heard that Colter got the job for Cage.

I think they should confirm Luke's casting on Christmas Day.

I dunno about you guys, but I'd find it amusing.

Marvel has an article up about Ritter's casting, including a brief synopsis for the show:

Ritter will play Jessica Jones, first introduced in writer Brian Michael Bendis and artist Michael Gaydos' classic ALIAS comic series. After a tragic ending to her short-lived Super Hero stint, Jones is rebuilding her personal life and career as a detective who gets pulled into cases involving people with extraordinary abilities in New York City.

[up][up][up] That would be amazing. They need to have some sort of Luke Cage announcement on Christmas.

I'm pretty pleased with all the casting decisions so far. I like Kristin Rytter a lot (Don't Trust the B is one of several recent ABC shows cancelled before their time IMO), and while I've only seen Colter in the Good Wife, he had impressive presence there even if he was playing a bad guy.

Mike Colter has officially been cast as Luke Cage.

According to the official announcement, “During the course of an investigation in New York City, private investigator Jessica Jones encounters the enigmatic Luke Cage – a man whose past has secrets that will dramatically alter Jessica in ways she could never have imagined. “ “Mike embodies the strength, edge and depth of Luke Cage,” said Executive Producer/Showrunner Melissa Rosenberg in a press release. “We're excited to have him bring this iconic Marvel character to life.”

So, am I the only one who kinda wants to see Daredevil in a variation on his hilariously ugly yellow-and-black costume? Just for a single episode, or even part of a single episode. And then it occasionally gets referenced as a Running Gag where people make fun of him for it.
