So I've been watching That70s Show recently, after my Seinfeld binge. And everyone rags on Seinfeld for having unsympathetic protagonists. Hell, their finale was them getting arrested for being dicks to other people.

But it seems to me that the cast of That 70's should be labelled the real unsympathetic dicks. Throughout the course of the show, three out of the six main characters have cheated on their significant others, all six constantly set up their friends for disaster or blame another friend when they caught, and they even indirectly caused Charlie's death in Season 8.

All Jerry, George, Elaine, and Kramer ever did was be petty, and that was mainly limited to George.

Keep in mind, I love both shows but I think Seinfeld got an undeserved rap when That 70s has the more unsympathetic protagonists.

The characters in That '70s Show were teenagers. You don't expect high schoolers to be great people. You expect them to be stupid. Even at that, they were actually still sympathetic. They did some stupid, terrible shit, but they usually felt bad about it, they usually tried to make it up to any friends they hurt, and they did do their best to be good people, even if they weren't always successful.

The cast of Seinfeld, on the other hand, were just complete fucking assholes. They were petty, shallow, self-obsessed, unrepentant pieces of shit. They were sociopaths. They were a group of sociopaths, totally incapable of feeling any sort of sympathy for other people. They never even made the attempt to be good people. And they don't get a pass on any of it, because they're adults. They should know better. They should've learned some level of emotional maturity at some point in their lives. But they didn't, because they are just such fucking awful people.

So, yeah. The Seinfeld gang is way, way worse than the That '70s Show gang.

How is this not a complaining thread? For the love of Mike. Read the rules.

ETA: After discussing the thread intent with the OP I have unlocked the thread. Carry on.

[up][up] You're kind of exaggerating. The Seinfeld characters could be complete sociopaths, but it was very much a Depending on the Writer sort of thing; plenty of episodes dealt with the characters having to jump through hoops in order to fulfill a moral obligation to someone else.

After talking with the OP over PM I unlocked this thread and went to bed. I had a pm this morning from the OP stating they would like to start a new thread, I am obliging by locking this thread and letting them start a new.
