So the main character's costume is almost identical is not enough for you?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatThe main characters costume is definetly not the whole movie now is it.
Who watches the watchmen? It's the defining image of the movie. He is what the movie is named after. He damn well counts.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatSorry afraid not. Especially when the people who wrote the script and characters say othewise.
No matter how you try and stretch this. The movie is not anime inspired.

Who watches the watchmen?Well of course not, it's Toku-inspired.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatId say the costume is, the movie no. Again the costume does not make up the script or character concept all on it's own and is at best a fraction of entire movie. The costume came after the script and character were written and we have been given what influenced both of those.
Who watches the watchmen?>.> The MOVIE is not a costume. It's the story. You have one visual that is probably inspired by Toku, but unless the rest of the film takes from Anime sources, it doesn't count. Is the actual story based on that same source, or is it its own?
So what do you guys think of the The Fifth Element as a possible canidate?
I don't know much about it's writers or inspiration for the film but I do not is quirky in a way that anime tends to be.
Of course it could be just a typically out there sci-fi action film.

Who watches the watchmen? For me feels more like Incal or Valérian and Laureline or other French sci-fi comics.
harkko: Interesting. I will have to look into that. I hadn't thought about French works for that.
For Kill Bill I would argue it borrows hugely from Asian media in general being a martial arts actions film in general with huge battle scenes that look like they came right out of an Asian action flick. Of course we can't argue the clear anime bit.

Who watches the watchmen?Yeah, I think Kill Bill does have a few anime influences.
Also, I believe Tron Legacy has a few animesque traits as well. Observe:

I dunno about that.
Conceptually all they did was take the light bikes, make them planes, and give them guns. It is also a sequel drawing on the original and made for more modern times with modern graphics and effects.
Fighter planes chasing a larger aircraft with the heroes trying to escape and gunning down their pursuers we could just as easily say is drawn from Star Wars with Han and Luke trying to escape the empire in the Millenium Falcon.
Who watches the watchmen?Good point.
Oh, just saw Dark City for the first time. I can't help but feel that it too has a few anime influences. I'd post the final battle to show you what I mean, but this'll have to do instead:
It's more German influenced, really.
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatI get that, but when I saw the final battle and the like, not to mention several of the effects, I couldn't help but be reminded of anime such as Akira and the like.

It is possible it did draw inspiration from some anime. You would have to do some homework on this one. I have been meaning to see this movie so it looks like it is high time I should do just that.
Who watches the watchmen? All I can say is that you're in for one heck of an awesome experience.
Just get the Director's Cut.
I didn't write any of that.I probably should.
I am starting to wonder if perhaps both anime and movies were just simply inspired by trends at the time like use of certain special effects and popular genres while only occasionally borrowing from each other.
Like Robo Jox was more or less aimed at those who liked the big mecha which was more of a thing with anime then most American media for a time.

Who watches the watchmen?
Not really. It is not an anime inspired movie. One character costume does not make the movie anime inspired. That is just continued stretching.
Especially when the script is inspired by a classic cyberpunk movie like Blade Runner which is inspired by the book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep and the character in general is inspired by Judge Dredd and a Marvel hero that would better fit in the days of ray gun gothic fiction.
