• Do you happen to hate robots? Cyborgs? Could be cultural, religious, or any other sort of reason.
  • Bolaemians haven't figured out how to make a labourer cheaper to maintain than an organic and their AI development is lagging comparitively. As such, they don't use Robots and more backwater clans might have misgivings but over all, there's no hate going on. Full sentient ones would just been seen as another species, albeit one the Bolaemians are not interested in producing just for the sake of SCIENCE.

• Are you animal rights activists who frown upon planets filled with processor-embedded animals?
  • Bolaemians never got too big into the meat industry; grown food is cheaper while their travelling population make a big deal out of hunting. Like with Robots, it's something they've never cared about.

• Do you sell animals, plants, media, art, fossils? And do you like buying live animals and/or plants, or meat and produce?
  • The Bolaemians are opposed to privately owned media, though they are isolationist enough that they will trade it with over governments or corporations for their own. The Czypnid are do sell pretty much anything else they're allowed to. As to buying; Bolaemians are largely isolationist, so unless there was a plant that seemed as though it would thrive on a new colony, they'd prefer native species.

• Do you allow other species or animals to be employed by your people when it's clear they do so to study your culture?
  • For the most part, the scale on which they are admitted is limited but attention is paid to them both positive and negative. They tend to be seen as outsiders both socially and legally, though official efforts are made to welcome them in both regards. There is a general mistrust of spies and outsiders, coupled with a genuine hope that they might join or encourage others to.

• Are you an aggressive, warlike race of people?
  • The Bolaemid distrust outside ideologies and are colonially and ideologically expansive. They prefer rhetorical battles to actual ones as Imperialism and subject peoples is something near impossible to integrate into their clan system and would be a long term drain on individual clan ressources. As such, their wars tend to be defensive and they rarely are the first to fire.

• Is the only reason you aren't in a war with every other known civilization at the moment because you don't think you can take them all on "yet"?
  • They'd really, really love it if everyone came to their senses and adopted their system. If you really convinced them that they could do that by force of arms? Maybe they'd give conquest a go. More likely though, they're happy to keep turtling and at most seize a couple planets and secure their borders, hoping that eventually their ideas will catch on.

• Are you trying to expand your infrastructure to support a military engine capable of defeating every other known civilization?
  • Bolaemia has a huge population but really shitty militia vessels and a small standing army. If you threw them a way to maintain a fleet large enough to be piloted by their militia, they'd be a Galatic power. Until then, they're mostly eyeing their neighbours with suspicion with little planned beyond that.

• Do you have a large army? If you are a pretty peaceful civilization, are you open to just having the Norb chillin' out on one or two of those uninhabitable planets in your system?
  • Their standing army is pretty small considering full population and planetary size, but still fairly respectable. Their militia as stated above is huge but barely cannon fodder.
  • For the most part, the Bolaemians are good terraformers with diverse enough species that they can manage to populate most planets in a system. They're also wary of allowing an extranational force to settle; if Norb emmigrants want to settle permenantly or at least are willing to declare equal loyalty, then they could find somewhere [at least a dwarf planet or something that's too far from the Star], otherwise, they'll keep on trying to terraform it for one of their species who have settled more permenantly.

Just to let you guys know, I kind of need to actively avoid logging into skype for at least a day or two, for sanity reasons. (Long story that I don't feel like telling.) And no, just appearing offline wouldn't work.

So if there's anything from the skype chat that really needs my attention, make sure it's mentioned here in the discussion thread or sent to me in a private message.

Oh yes, I'm well aware of that (as is Azunn). However, he's kind of being polite reflexively - he's so used to trying to avoid causing offense that the idea of dispensing with the pleasantries isn't the first thing that occurs to him.

That and he was brought up in an environment where rudeness on his part would have garnered dark mutterings behind closed doors at best. Being demure and proper was the order of the day.

Thinking over some stuff I was talking about with Blackfire, here are some things wrong with Verandi, problems within the nation that other countries may or may not be aware of.

1) Poverty. Many people struggle financially, especially unplaced farther away from the Inner Worlds where government oversight of the local lords isn't as prominent.

2) Lack of social mobility. Many jobs and positions high in the government are either exclusive to the nobility or have priority in favor if nobles. Even the richest of commoners can't get into these positions.

3) Corruption. Either through malice or incompetence, a lot of stuff never gets the funding it needs to be built or fixed. Like number #1, this is more noticeable in out if the way places.

4) Censorship. Whenever they feel the need, the government will try to curtail access of information, whether this means blocking communication signals, impounding courier ships, or even cutting off a whole star system depends on the situation. It's the 36th century, so how effective these measures are can vary.

Very interesting! I think it'd be a good idea for everyone to work on stuff like this - after all, nobody's perfect.

I have one or two ideas for issues the SU has, but I'm not 100% sure of them. I don't want to make wild/inaccurate assumptions.
