They just wanted a cool event linking the Mane 6's cutie mark appearing and didn't think it through how unlikely it would be that something that big, unique, and cool will somehow be relatively unknown 15 years later. It's why I don't think fim is the best show ever. They had some cool ideas but a lot of their lore is contradictory or confusing. Rainbow was always a better flier than the wonderbolts yet they didn't recruit her because the writers chose to never have her be recruited.

No, that old cartoon was full of lies and misinformation. Cutie Marks work the same everywhere. Just I was somehow born with mine. That's how I got my name.

Blind Final Fantasy 6 Let's PlayI thought of one possible reason why Rainbow Dash was never recruited for the Wonderbolts earlier on. Maybe they don't just look for the best fliers, but also look for ponies who are good at working with a team and following choreography. Whereas Rainbow Dash, especially early on, was known for trying to show off with her flying stunts (such as the Rainboom), which would be impressive for a single flying performer but might cause problems if she's supposed to fly with a group. It's the difference between someone who is known for being the fastest swimmer who wins races vs someone who is part of a synchronized swimming team.
Except when she wasn't, mind you. Early on she was a very clumsy flier generally. That, too, seems to be inconsistent with the idea of her being the best flier in her year in childhood.
Optimism is a duty.Didn't one episode show that Rainbow Dash was terrible at studying for the Wonderbolts test before Twilight helped her find a study method that worked for her? So maybe that's why it took a while for her to get in.
At least this is what I'm bringing up to try and plug the Plot Hole up.
Yeah, that was a thing. One of those people who's good at one part of the test but another part is where they're having trouble, like with Spongebob and boating school.
What, the driving part? That seems like a pretty critical part.
Optimism is a duty.Yeah XD Rainbow Dash is the inverse; she's a great flyer, but has pretty much no book-smarts to go with it.
So, do you all think Applejack truly cries on the inside? Pinkie claims she does in Tanks for the Memories, but here's a list of Applejack crying moments:
Maybe there was something different in that context compared to the pictured moments? Or maybe it was hyperbole?
@Redmess: It sounds like you're referring to "Sonic Rainboom" which was in a stadium an noticed. I was referring to her first rainboom in "Cutie Mark Chronicles" which in retrospect had enough attendees it's questionable no one noticed.
I'm assuming it was such an informal event anypony who noticed wasn't believed such those who saw the rainboom would never make the connection at the time.
I think that was just a throwaway gag, not any serious characterization.
Didn't someone at some point mention Dash was famous for being the only pony to ever perform a sonic rainboom? Heck, I think she was the one bragging about it in the first episode.

Optimism is a duty.If so no one seriously believed her prior to "Sonic Rainboom".
So, does Sweetie Belle live with Rarity in later seasons? I know Sisterhooves Social from season 2 showed Sweetie Belle lives with her parents (who drop her off at Rarity's for the week), but does she still live with her parents or did she move in with Rarity by later seasons?
The show can't decide one way or another. I think most writers just sort of write them as living together.
Optimism is a duty.Whatever was most convenient for the plot.
Qui odoratus est qui fecit.Yeah, exactly.
Optimism is a duty.So it's essentially on a Depending on the Writer basis with earlier seasons leaning toward Sweetie Belle living with her parents and later ones leaning toward living with Rarity?
Yes. This show has always been somewhat Depending on the Writer. It happens with a lot of things, like with how Pinkie is funny but harmless and kind in some episodes, but obnoxious and insensitive in others.
Optimism is a duty. That's why I rely on fanfiction series' written consistently by one author. The Triptych Continuum has a relatively melancholy Pinkie that nevertheless dedicates her life to cheering people up that I adore. My(stara's) Little Ponies: Friendship Is Adventuring has a Pinkie that has enough social acumen to use her randomness (and familial knowledge of geology) to try and divert an awkward situation with sudden questions about rock formations.
I'm a big fan of Loudly Careless, Quietly Thoughtful Pinkie, although sadly she mostly seems to exist in the realm of fanfiction because it's a kind of portrayal that the canon medium wasn't suited to displaying.
We do get a bit of Pinkie being thoughtful in canon with Party Pooped showing she has files on every pony's likes and dislikes, so she does have a thoughtful side in canon despite her oblivious behavior.
A very obsessive kind of thoughtful, but yes.
Optimism is a duty.also no pranking Fluttershy
New theme music also a boxIt's kind of odd, because Pinkie doesn't even spend all that much time with Fluttershy on the show.
Come to think of it, Pinkie rarely hangs out with any of her friends. They come to her parties, sure, but they rarely seem to do anything with her outside of those.
No wonder some people feel she is The Friend Nobody Likes.
Optimism is a duty.Don't we get episodes focusing on her dynamics with the others (minus Fluttershy) like
- Twilight/Pinkie: Feeling Pinkie Keen, Trade Ya, A Trivial Pursuit
- Rainbow/Pinkie: Griffin the Brush Off, The Lost Treasure of Griffonstone, 28 Pranks Later, Buckball Season, Daring Done?, Secrets and Pies
- Applejack/Pinkie: Pinkie Apple Pie, Hearthbreakers, Buckball Season, P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)
- Rarity/Pinkie: The Gift of the Maud Pie, Spice Up Your Life, P.P.O.V. (Pony Point of View)
Seems she pairs with Rainbow Dash the most, likely fueling the Pinkiedash shipping.
How? How would Celestia not know? She could practically see it from her classroom. She knew what it did to Twilight. She was there!
The longer you keep saying it makes sense no one knows, the more baffling it is that no one doesn't.
Optimism is a duty.
