I think Marvel cut it, not Waititi. Thought I saw that somewhere.

I can't see any story involving heterosexual characters where the hero(ine) is the ex-lover and former compatriot of the villain(ess) not being explicit from the outset about the two formerly being in a romantic relationship. So definitely a double standard that this same level of explicitness wouldn't apply when the work involves homosexual characters.

Also, in terms of examples noted, I will mention that while I'm a big fan of Holdo the character, I didn't get any sense of her being bi or pan sexual in the film. My impression was basically of a Leia friend and protegee who shared Leia's romantic tastes, as the only indication of her sexuality is a humorous line about her liking Poe- humorous because up until that point one would assume that she hated him/ he had spent the entire film trying to undermine her/prove she was a traitor.

And similarly, I unfortunately haven't seen Ragnarok yet, but what I've heard is that because of Valkyrie's lesbian relationship being omitted, she comes across as having a possibly Relationship Writing Fumble friendship with Thor and/or Banner.

I'm wondering if the purple hair was meant to hint at her orientation (the purple in the bisexual pride flag is intended to represent attraction to both genders). Still flimsy, though.

Now I'm even more annoyed the Xena reboot was cancelled.

TBH that's the first time I've heard of that Ragnarok impression. I definitely didn't get that feeling from the film, but I guess I understand why people would see it that way.

Tessa Thompson openly confirmed it in multiple interviews.

Sorry, I mean the Valkyrie/Thor/Banner thing.

Sure, there might be 14 pages of Marvel characters that are discussed as gay, but I can also probably do the same about anything else that's long running. I can make a stack of tokens and it doesn't change that they're still tokens, just enough that I can play at the arcade for a few hours.

That metaphor went places...

Anyway, how many of them are leads in the Marvel Comic series? How many of them are homosexual in a single issue or an alternate continuity? How many of them are one off cast-of-the-week characters that never get mentioned again? How many are dead? How many of them are do a homosexual act once and then no one ever mentions it again, like Wolverine and Nightcrawler that one time?

That's a big thing. If you look at the MCU for comparison, NONE of the leads are LGBT. None of the side characters either. Or depicted as such if you want to go into the Valkyre thing. And only 3 (soon to be 4 with Captain Marvel) are women. In 21 movies, we got nothing. 24 once we get to all announced projects.

How many movies does it take to just do it?

Are there actually any LGBTQ characters in the MCU (films) shown as such on screen? I can't think of a single one.
