Yeah, sure.

Also I'm not starting this ASAP, but in the next couple days or so, since I know a few people who expressed interest haven't made a character, so I'd like to give them a bit of time if they're still interested before starting.

And another "also": @Clawthewolf: Now that Kal's finished, she's accepted.

Name: Amos Jenns

Sex: Male

Age: 33

Race: Human Corellian

Class: Thug (Formerly a Trooper of the Galactic Republic)

Alignment: Neutral

Appearance: Standing at 5'10" and weighing 235 lbs, Trooper Jenns made for a formidable sight in his Republic Trooper Armor.

Personality: A former trooper with a smart mouth and gungho attitude, Jenns used to bear the Republic enmity for his dishonourable discharge. Now a bounty hunter with freedom to accomplish any mission (and pack any weapon he sees fit), Jenns has gotten over his antipathy and is generally an easygoing person. For all his excess enthusiasm and bravado attitude, he is still a solid and dependable trooper. One who happens to prefer heavy armaments.

Primary Weapon Type: Repeating Blaster, particularly the chaingun.

Armor Type: Light

Starting Abilities:

  • Armstech - Thanks to his mechanical aptitude, he quickly picked up a knack for fiddling around with weapons, keeping them well-maintained and, when pressed, to build them out of scrap. Unfortunately, coupled with his innate desire for heavy armaments, it was this skill that might have put the odds out of his favor when he was being courtmartialed. The higher-ups looked upon a man who tinkered with scrap-built weapons in his free time and concluded he might not have been the picture of a steady trooper.

  • Mechanical Engineer - Jenns had been a student in one of Corellia's many engineering schools before he signed on with the Republic as a Trooper. This has served him well in his career, affecting running repairs on locomotive systems on vehicles, actuators on droids and even rebuilding barricades.

  • Republic Trooper Endurance - The physical conditioning of the Republic Troopers is famous throughout the galaxy. In the case of Trooper Jenns, it has served to make him what can only be described as a living tank. Carrying his blaster and equipment, he can keep pace with a running line of troopers, carry on fighting in desert or arctic environments and even possess a higher pain tolerance than most of his fellows.

Equipment:

  • Nal Hutta Pattern (aka "Ripchain") Heavy Repeating Blaster - A scrap-built weapon which comes in many forms, it is made from a Republic template and any parts the buyer can get his or her hands on. While it is a relatively affordable anti-personnel weapon which fires more ammunition than any factory-made blaster, these advantages are off-set by a reduced range and poor heat venting. Meaning, the longer the wielder keeps up the fire, the higher the chances of a jam or an accident. In short, the Ripchain is a dependable if rather finicky weapon which is deadly in the right hands.

  • Bounty Hunter Outfit - The atypical duster, trousers, shirt and spacer's vest of a bounty hunter, sewn with scavenged plates of light armor on the chest, shoulders and legs. At great cost, audio dampeners had been installed in the duster's collar to protect his hearing from the awesome noise generated by his weapon of choice. Interestingly, Jenns has a faded patch of the Republic Troopers sewn on the left shoulder of his duster while on the right, a stylized arrowhead, the mark of his old squad.

  • Multi-Tool - An all-purpose instrument indispensable to engineers and those of a mechanical bent. Jenns' multi-tool is wrist-mounted.

  • 1 Flash Grenade

  • Odds and ends in rucksack - A change of clothing, socks and unmentionables, rebreather with 30 minutes of air, a flask of Corellian whisky (a parting gift from home), miscellaneous little machine bits, etc.

Credit: 76

Brief History: Formerly an engineering student who fell in love with the military life thanks to a mandatory ROTC course, Amos Jenns had served the Republic faithfully for a decade in its frontlines as Arrow Squad's support gunner. However, during an black ops deployment in the Outer Rim, he been busted for insubordination (a retreat which saved the lives of his fire team but lost Sector Command a valuable contact) and discharged.

However, on the search for a new line of work, Jenns found that conventional employment was not looking for a man who could keep a gunship airborne amidst a storm of anti-aircraft fire and handle a roaring SI Republic Repeater with almost no fuss. Which then led him to three moderately successful years as a mercenary until a deal that had gone bad led him to run for Nal Hutta and luck out when the Rancors were on the lookout for fresh talent.

Mentioned this in the discussion, but forgot to post it here: Game is up here. In case you missed it, the discussion is here. The signups will remain open for latecomers wishing to take a stab at making a character signup, and depending on the timing of said signup will determine if you can jump right in, or wait until everyone's back for new missions.

Are signups still open? I haven't played a play-by-post game in ages, and I was wondering if it would be okay if I joined yours?

  • Name: Eiron Mal’tav
  • Sex: Male
  • Age: 32
  • '''Race: Human Alderaan
  • Class/Title: Pilot
  • Alignment: Neutral
  • Appearance: Eiron stands at about 5’9” (1.75 m) and weighs in at 170 lbs. (77 kg). He has dark hair cut long parted in the middle, a tan complexion, hazel eyes, and a lean build. He tends to wear an armored flight suit, with black plating over a grey suit, though he prefers simple goggles to a full helmet unless he's piloting a single-crew craft.
  • Personality: Very laid-back, and indulges in the vice of gluttony. He smokes, he drinks, he gambles, he hustles. Has a thing about authority. Generally a nice guy, though. And despite his chosen vices, not a flirt.
  • Primary Weapon Type: Blaster Pistol. Tends to carry one of the smaller models so as to have it in case of emergency.
  • Armor Type: Light
  • Starting Abilities:
    • Ace Pilot: Eiron can pilot pretty much anything that was made by or for single-human pilots. This is not limited to starships, but also extends to ground vehicles and atmospheric as well. The Republic Military Academy was very thorough, but Eiron appears to have a certain knack for it regardless. Combined with his ‘’Gambler’’ Ability (see below), Eiron may, in fact, be Force Sensitive, but this is not known as of yet.
    • Field Repair: Eiron can also make repairs on many mechanical and electronic devices in the field, and is especially well-trained in converting existing parts and equipment into something that can be used.
    • Gambler: Eiron is pretty good at guessing the odds and running the numbers over a situation. It is what makes him such a great getaway man; he can do some of the hyperjump calcs himself, and when he can’t, his hunches are usually pretty accurate.
  • Equipment:
    • Blaster Pistol: A Nal Hutta model, good for concealment, kept in a chest holster.
    • Armored Flight Suit: Lightly armored but carrying many pouches for his “emergency kit.”
    • Mesh Tape: For when it moves and shouldn’t.
    • Graphite Powder: For when it doesn’t move and should.
    • Fusion Pen: For when the above doesn’t cut it.
  • Credits:
  • Brief History: Kicked out of the Republic Naval Academy for insubordination despite high marks, Eiron was forced to ply his chosen trade of flying anything within the rim wherever he could find work. After doing some contract work for the Hutt Cartel, he eventually found his way more and more towards becoming a full mercenary instead of just a Cartel pilot.

Eiron is accepted. Assuming that the fusion pen is a fusioncutter, his starting balance is 193 credits. I should mention that his repair skill will mainly work at repairing, if you want to be able to build stuff, that would take another ability, like how Jenns has armstech. You don't need to worry about the mesh tape and graphite powder specifically, though. I'm not being specific down to that deep of a level, so in the game each one would basically be treated as a repair kit. So you could repair two things that don't move enough, or two things that move too much, instead of only being able to fix one of each[lol]

As for getting into the game... Normally I'd just say wait around until the next mission, but it hasn't been too long since the game started. Hop over to the discussion thread, and see if anyone objects to having him handwaved as coming late, or being there all along, or whatever. One of the people on the transport mission hasn't been posting, causing that particular one to not be very far along, and I suppose Eiron could be dropped in that one the easiest.

Voicing interest! I understand the game has already started and that weaseling myself into one of the three adventures currently underway might be tricky (and, thus, facilitated by a wait), but I figured I'd go ahead and try to put something together anyway.

Rough concept: Failed Jedi who wasn't picked up as a Padawan turned freelancer in lieu of joining one of the Jedi Service Corps in an earnest endeavor to still do some good in the galaxy with the talents (s)he's been given. Likely male, and strongly Light-aligned. Since we already have a bunch of humans, might as well keep up the conceit with an Arkanian-Human Offshoot or Cathar. Different, yet similar!

I actually sort of like the idea of someone who uses Slugthrowers; something that doesn't seem to come up too often in the Star Wars games I've played. I have a question about that though: would "Slugthrower Proficiency" be too broad? I'm guessing so, but I figured I'd ask anyway since the way I envision this fella he's not so much a "master of a single type," but rather a more utilitarian "can pick up and use on a basic level without serious impediment." If it is too broad — and, again, I suspect it is tongue — I suppose I'll just have to settle for the ol' Scattergun. After all, nothing says Keeper of the Peace like a trusty boomstick!

Peace keeper with a piece maker. I like it.

A character like that is perfectly fine. You're right about slugthrowers being too broad, but you don't have to just limit yourself to scatterguns, either. It could just be shotguns in general, which includes both energy and slugthrower types. This hasn't come up since everyone's used energy weapons, and I (incorrectly) figured it would be a while before anyone got or wanted a slugthrower, but if you're proficient in blaster pistols or blaster rifles or whatever, then you can use the slugthrower versions of those well enough too. (The only exception, of course, is lightsabers compared to vibroswords, since I feel it would be unfair to a swordsman if a Jedi's lightsaber proficiency was "swords, but better") So it's more about the class of weapon than the type of ammunition.

If (s)he has training with blaster rifles, blaster pistols, sniper rifles, or whatever, then being able to use the slugthrower versions of that is included. Logically, this is the inverse of what you'd expect (slugthrower proficiency making blaster proficiency easier), but this is a game, and I'm trying to make it like a Battlefield and KotOR vibe.

Yes. You'd have seen that if you looked at the first page or looked at existing characters. This game depends on people staying informed of each others characters and posts, so I wouldn't suggest making a character unless you're willing to keep up and pay attention.

  • Name: Rom Vulkansson.
  • Sex: Male.
  • Age: 34.
  • Race: Mandalorian Zelosian.
  • Class/title: bounty hunter/ botanist.
  • Alignment: neutral.
  • Appearance: Though not often seen, beneath Rom's armor is the appearance of a beaten man. Scars line his body from countless fights, in particular his face from resisting torture. His bright green eyes are only dimmed by his haunting gaze, and his mouth has never been seen in the shape of a smile. Rom's fairly tall for a Zelosian, about six foot two, and is fairly well built for one as well, having trained long and hard while still serving his Mandalore. Rom is almost never seen not in his dark green armor, and his face is always covered by his helm.
  • Personality: Rom is a quiet, serious man. Though he has his softer side. For instance, when not hunting a bounty he enjoys gardening, and has a soft spot for children. Often, Rom has been called a smart mouth for his comments to his teammates and clients. Oddly, the people that raised him didn't see this as a problem.
  • Primary weapon type: power pack based sniper rifle.
  • Armor type: heavy.
  • Starting abilities: 1- camouflage, hiding himself in cover and hiding small base camps. 2- demolitions. 3- armor construction/repair.
  • Equipment: Valken-38 Sniper rifle with twelve power packs containing 20 shots each, E-9 blaster pistol with five power packs containing 100 shots each, 1 pair of crushgaunts, 5 thermal detonators and 4 timed explosive charges, a vibro knife, bounty hunter armor with enhanced optics in the helmet, and a camouflage kit containing grease paint and the necessary tools to construct a ghillie suit over Rom's armor.
  • Credits:
  • Brief History: Rom was an infant when his parents died. Abandoned in a space port, Rom was saved by a travelling group of Mandalorians who worked as soldiers of fortune. Raised and taught the Mandalorian culture, Rom was fighting on the battle field at a young age. Still, the boy yearned for more than combat, and started to learn botany from locals when he wasn't with his 'family' in a campaign. Finally, when Rom grew tired of the constant campaigning, he left his armor with his family, promised to stay in touch, and took off to seek his fortunes. His fortunes, it turns out, led him into a life of bounty hunting. So, when he saw a sign for the 'Rough Rancors' or something like that, he decided he'd join them.

I can't accept this. That signup is really bare. This game requires some effort, and you aren't even putting the time in to itemize your inventory with bullets, specify actual amounts of items, or even specifying what those items. You also didn't pay attention to what I said in my last post, if you had you would have seen what comments I already gave to Claw regarding Mandalorian armor compared to more standard heavy battle armor.

Also he's right Red, Mandalorians are a culture, not a race, so there could be a twi'lek Mandalorian, zabrak, etc. Though you are right that it's not really a class.

I didn't really mean ammo, since I've been assuming infinite ammo for energy weapons, and you'd have seen that not a single other signup mentions ammunition. I meant for the grenades and stuff, which you did write. But you still don't specify very much, like "explosive charges" - what type of explosive? Plasma? Sonic? Kinetic? Fragmentation? What type of timer? 3-second fuse? 10-second fuse? In any case, he just has way too much stuff. You gave him top-of-the line everything. Those crushgaunts alone, considering that they're supposed to be made of beskar and let a user fist-fight a jedi, probably cost more than the sum of every other item every other character starts with, plus their starting credits. Plus nearly half a dozen thermal detonators and four detpacks is a staggeringly large amount to start with that dwarfs anything anyone is carrying. And is that "bounty hunter armor" just you trying to keep Mandalorian armor with a different name?

It's clear you still haven't read the signup through and looked at the other characters like I've asked twice. I can't have a player constantly overlooking things and not putting effort into reading other player's profiles, so I'm going to have to ask you to sit this game out.

Just a quick announcement for anyone thinking of joining: This RP's always got signups open, and anyone making a character in the next few weeks is just fine and I can throw you into the game quickly enough. But the game's going to have the next in-game day start eventually, along with the new main missions, so at that point while I can look at new signups and stuff, I can't easily add new characters when everyone's already off on their jobs, so at that point you'd have to wait a few days unless we can work something out.

I will update this when the situation changes, but for the time being: Any newly-accepted character will be able to join (virtually) immediately.

Conveniently for you, I've been keeping things updated in the discussion thread. That has links to summaries of the entire game world. For the specifics, the main mission recap covers about half of the game, and the sidequests part mentions what people got up to when they weren't on a big job.
