I actually enjoyed the last level? It was kind of weird because it was downright Meatboy-ish in how it was a series of challenges that can kill you over and over, but I liked it for that. It was tense, but without feeling unfair. And there was only one room there that really gave me any trouble worth mentioning.
The only thing apart from the stealth section (and the final boss' cannonball attack that I never figured out how to dodge) that bothers me in hindsight is that I think they went a little too far in the direction of silliness at times. Playing Risky's Revenge, the dialogue overall is a lot less charming, but it's pretty egregious how the mayor was actually portrayed as pretty reasonable and serious about not selling the town, then in the very next game he just goes and does it for chocolate. That makes him... barf into the ocean immediately, I guess. That's... a little sad. (Also a bit much Comedic Sociopathy sometimes.)
I guess I never played enough Shantae before to miss her shapeshifting gimmick, but in comparison to Risky's Revenge, it's pretty clear just how much better her tools in Pirate's Curse work in a videogame, whereas most of the time shapeshifting just means you have to stop dead in your tracks for a second or three, do a thing, then shift back.
Well, hopefully they've come up with a more streamlined system for HGH.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectI actually thought the system in the original game was pretty fun.
@Fawriel: In response to them modeling it after the previous games, it's been said that they're pretty much stripping away the Metroidvania elements from before and just making this one more of a straightforward action-platformer. So, that's something.
Wait why?
that's laaame.
May as well give the whole quote, chief:
“Pirate’s Curse has a deeper narrative and is more rooted in 16-bit stylings, even though it has higher resolution paintings and occasional voice over,” he continued. “Pirate’s Curse expands the original gameplay and takes into new territory. Half-Genie Hero goes back to belly dancing and magic, but adds a ton of variety with more playable characters and HD visual design.”
And besides, if you have different forms, you have to use it for something, right?

Yeah, it occurred to me in the meantime that the game would have to be structured differently if they're adding content called "chapters"... I hope they don't completely erase the exploration element and just make it a series of obstacle courses. Linearity has its advantages, but it would be a shame not to be able to properly explore the world. Starting off in the same hub world but getting clear directions to the new location every time would be a nice way to go about it, I reckon.
The way Pirate's Curse was structured with the different islands is probably how the chapters will work.
... yeah, actually. That. Pirate's Curse without those parts where I explore things only to realize that I came across something that the game would expect me to find anyway after hitting the next plot flag.
They're collecting votes for new Smash fighters! I'm unsure whether to give my vote to Shantae or Quote, but will anyone join me in the potential conquest for half-genie heroines?
Yes.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersSpeaking of
Shantae progress and also a mockup of possible smash palettes. Including zombie Shantae.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersDidn't see it mentioned here, but they released two 3DS Home Themes based on Pirate's Curse, one with Shantae and Risky (and everyone else), and one Rotty and her brothers.
I'm surprised I didn't miss much here (caught the slime girl update when it happened).
As for the Smash Ballot, still debating on whether to vote for Shantae, Shovel Knight, Simon Belmont, or (as far as actual Nintendo characters are concerned) Lip. The possible alt colors they came up with for Shantae does win her a good amount of favor from me though.
Yeah, look three posts above your's
"Have a good day. Have a good week. Have a good month. Have a good year. Have a good life." ~CiviaShantae has some great moveset potential.
Harpy or cannon for an Up B
Monkey or Elephant for Over B (maybe dependent on whether you're on the ground or not)
Elephant for Down B?
Hair attacks for normal A. Her various martial arts for smash attacks?
Maybe have a hover similar to peach but with pirate hat
There's probably better ideas. That was my five seconds of thought.
Forever liveblogging the AvengersI ALREADY VOTED AS HARD AS I COULD

Bolo doesn't want to be the hero anymore

Only thing I don't like about Pirate's curse is her not being able to turn into animals since that's kind of her defining gimmick. Like it makes sense storywise but it's weird still.
And yeah the stealth level and last level are the worst.
