That's one thing I thought about today with our Commander. We had a 3 star general come through today, and I had to brief him on our alarm systems as part of him making his rounds and inspecting our base. We were standing outside watching his staff car drive off, and he looked over at me and went "Man, glad that shit is over, we can all un-pucker and go back to work."

It's a small detail, but a lot of commanders put the focus on their guys, which is good and all, but it's very rarely "We". The Commanders who do that don't refer to themselves very often. For our commander, it's more like he's one of us, and everyone outside of the squadron is neutral at best, and outright hostile at worst. This is good in our squadron, because that's how everybody else who's always been here feels on the matter.

A big part of leadership is making sure that you're down in the trenches with the people under you, and that they are part of a team effort along with their employees. When mistakes are made "We took it on the chin today.." but it's even more important that when victories happen the attitude from leadership isn't "You guys did a great job." but "We did a great job."
