Boss Battles:

Mighty #1 - Pyrogen - Pretty basic. All tells with some reaction. Fairly easy and bland.

Mighty #2 - Cryosphere - Very interesting take on a ice boss, constantly out of reach unless you bring her down. Lots of danger but always fair. Great fight.

Mighty #3 - Dynatron - Standard barrier boss with annoying RNG that can really screw you. Battle takes longer than it should, underwhelming.

Mighty #4 - Seismic - Great battle. Constant changing of the playing field. Great use of wall ledge grabs.

Mighty #5 - Battalion - Solid battle but a bit on the easy side and all attacks telegraphed.

Mighty #6 - Aviator - A bit boring of a battle and requires pinpoint reactions after his tells to dodge properly.

Mighty #7 - Brandish - Great reaction battle that is hard but feels fair throughout, especially once you understand his desperation move.

Mighty #8 - VERY unique concept and I like the gameplay shift, however he's far too easy to make a lasting impression.

Ray-Chel - Nice 3 in 1 boss battle that gets more hectic each time you face her. One of my favorites.

Oh, yeah, Ray, a welcome breath of fresh air.

I actually beat her the first two times without dying, so I'm kinda proud of that.

She's cool.

Um, hey, does anyone still miss Pink Call?

Yeah, I know the public's opinion of MN9 isn't particularly high at the moment. A while back, I skimmed through some bits of Pro Jared doing a playthrough saying how he backed it...and was evidently not having a ball with it since the game was apparently making his PC crap out on him and all.

And yeah, a credits sequence lasting 3 hours just to thank each and every single backer does sound pretty crummy to say the least.

But I dunno, part of me still thinks that there's something about this game that can be salvaged, like maybe have some of those mod guys on Steam or wherever fix out some of the crappier parts or heck, give it its own comic series that's on an Alternate Continuity, maybe use those unused Calls (pun intended) as different characters (what's the trope for that?) and let someone who isn't Inafune futz around with the world, y'know?

Dyantron, Brandish, Cryosphere and Ray are all pretty great.

Projared's playthrough was a pretty good time.

For me.

I'm pretty sure his soul was crushed.

And that's what you get for what you did to Revengeance! Yeah! Take that for having a different opinion to me!

I just noticed while testing Seismic form on RAY: Her boss battles are timed. She will just flee. You will still fight her for real for the third boss battle.

That's....a nice little detail.

EDIT: Should RAY get a "Back From The Dead/Came Back Wrong/Unwanted Revival" trope on her page since the "Why am I alive?" line implies that? (JP version takes it further: "This form....is an unburied coffin!")

[up] That's not very apparent in her lines. If you hadn't suggested that, I would have just thought those lines were just her complaining about how her body is constantly decaying, and why her body was created in such a horrid state.

That might be one way to interpret that line with her having faulty core all, but the JP version with the "unburied coffin" explicitly states another way of that.... So I'm pretty much torn of the "Why am I alive" line. She never says anything about a cure, she just wants to find Dr. White.

Another implication she has is that the "Who am I?" line in the ending seems like she forgot everything what happened before, starting back from the beginning, making it like she's stuck in a resetting loop. Should that get should some kind of amnesiac trope?

[up] She might think Dr. White is a cure in the sense he created her and could fix her. The JP line to me is just a dramatic way of saying "I should be dead but I'm not" or "I'm definitely going to die one day", both which concurs with her grief at how messed up her body is.

But you can go ahead and put an amnesiac trope, as that line does imply that. Just make sure to say it's implied on the trope page

Done.

For a subject change: Wonder if a sequel (Didn't Inafune confirm it back then but it wasn't in development yet due to his projects?) will make for correcting their mistakes and making the game better. How would you guys react if a sequel was announced?

I'd get it. If its as good or better, I'd be perfectly happy. I'd hope for a little more clarity in animation.

I don't think that it'll ever happen given that Infaune's reputation is probably irreparable, but a sequel would be fine by me.

I'm one of the tiny minority who are decidedly "okay" with the first go-around.

Overall, I didn't think it was 'BAD' per sey, but it wasn't anything groundbreaking or innovative. It was just 'another Mega Man game' to me in all respects. So having more of the same ISN'T a bad thing really (points to the REST of the Megaman franchise) but it never lived up to the lofty ambitions that he laid down at the outset. That is what I feel people are upset about, not that it isn't a good Mega Man clone, because it is, it just isn't the revolutionary game people were expecting.

No, it isn't. It's a decidedly uninspired and dashed off Mega Man clone, with collision detection issues, shoddy to borderline non-existent level design, and other low quality blunders that are not found in any Mega Man game outside of the later entries into the X series. That's why people are pissed off.

Not even a hardcore mega man fan could really enjoy this, as a mega man fan it makes me mad when people say that only mega man fans will like this, as this game less enjoyable than Mega man 1, seeing as how flawed and outdated that game is. This game is an embarrassment to mega man and platformers everywhere.

This is like a "Love it or Hate it" case. I very rarely see anyone in between. That is, for Westerners. There is a lot of praise and few negativity from other parts.

I love Megaman and I do love Mighty No 9 for simply what it is, and do hope for a sequel to come. But seeing so much negativity on this game compared to positive, it kind of saddens me, like I am a lost person who accidentally got in a wrong room.

@TAPETRVE - Different strokes for different folks. It just stroked you the wrong way when you wanted it in reverse. [lol] But seriously, I rather like it when you get past all the bullcrap surrounding it and take it for what it is.

There's a lot of little things in the game that REALLY bug me.

Like, sometimes text boxes cover up hazards and I fall to my death.

Or how I feel there are too many instant death traps, which is a tired gimmick that should be retired forever, but that's just me.

It's not just that the game is bland, but very flawed in numerous little ways that irritated me in my playthrough, eroding my faith in the designers.

But I got some kicks out of some moments. Not as much as, say, every Megaman Zero game, but kicks nonetheless.

I've already praised Brand and Ray a great deal, for instance.

Actually, here's something.

All the M Ns have a nickname based on their given name that's more familiar, except for Raychel, whose name is shortened to Ray, which struck me as more... ominous, I guess? Just thought it was interesting.

Rei=Zero

What the game is once you get through the PR bullcrap and the weird mechanic is a buggy, cheap, barely functional game. It's designs are fairly decent but marred by unnecessary inconvenience like textbox and obstructive cutscene (which does not have the decency to be short like X5 or be interesting like Zero 1).

I think the text boxes could be re-positioned on the upper right side. That's probably the part where dangers are least likely coming from, plus Megaman and MN 9 have the character generally on the lower half of the screen.

God, I love Brand's sword.

Does anyone have a favourite subweapon?

[up]Also, I agree. It's a problem that's easily solved, even by someone like me. Hell, just white subtitles would have been better rather than a big blue box!
