The Art of War - Fuedal Japan based RP (Sign ups)

During the unrest of the Warring states period, namely the sengoku period (15th-17th Century). The popularization and usage of hired mercenaries grew, increasing demand for these warriors who were given specialized jobs which required certain skills to be learned to complete. Espionage, intelligence, assassination, sabotage, infiltration, are all but a few of the new skills these warriors started learning. The demand for such warriors became so great, entire families would dedicate themselves to becoming the best on offer for such tasks, training children from a young age.

Also during this period, the country was under military control. Namely, by the samurai. They were the ruling class, nobility, and the protector of the peace and laws in these times. Their are stark differences between the two warriors. Samurai favoring open warfare, honor, respect. Against the shinobis lying, sneaking, cold blooded murder.

This is history. But it is not history we live in.

In our world. These two were controlled by different people. Two warriors who saw Japan as their property. So much so, they were prepared to kill the other brand of warriors. Two men, controlling an army. Seeking to make Japan their own. With no other reason, than pure ambition. One, control masses of Shinobi, and a portion of Samurai. The other, a samurai army with a portion of Shinobi. Both have equals amounts of insane ambition. And both are willing to do whatever it takes to unify Japan under their own banner.

The mainly samurai army are known as "The Amatsu Kurenai (The Crimson Imperials)" and can be reffered to as either or even "Samurai Army." These are led by General Ukinate Tamatsuki. The mainly shinobi army are known as "Okoze Yunisefu Kaiha (SIRAC - Sabotage, Infiltration, Reconnaissance, Assassination, Corruption, main areas of expertise - United Faction)" The man in control of this army is referred to as "Oujou" For "Death" For he is a very mysterious man, but it is known he is the best in the ranks of shinobi.

The mechanics for this game will be posted when it get's underway.

This is just an interest check just now for the general setting. Basically, ninja against Samurai. With a few gunsmiths and and archers thrown in if you fancy something else. A more intricate plot line with love and feuds, hate and betrayal, friendship and murder, shall be created by you. You have freedom to interact with each other as you see fit. This is basically living life how you wish, or how you would wish if you were a Shinobi or samurai. You can kill everyone in sight, flirt with Geisha girls, or drink barrels of Sake. Your choice. But you are always fighting for something. Be it your leader, or yourself, or for a dead friend. Anything! Complete freedom.

I will be controlling a campaign plot, over several years with one side attacking major cities in the others control, sometimes one control more of Japan, surprise rebellions, warlike plot's along with any created. Their shall be a map of Feudal Japan, list of ranking officers and so on. The map will have indicators of what areas are controlled by whom.

The usual rules. Don't everyone be the strongest guy out their. No god modding, auto hitting, and all the rest. And just have fun with it!

Sign up sheet:

Name: Self explanatory.

Age: Same again.

Affiliation: Neutral, Crimson Imperials, SIRAC Faction (This can change as the plot moves on).

Job: If not a soldier or part of the war.

Physical description: Height, complexion, hair color, clothing etc.

Personality: Brief description, we can find out in depth about it throughout the RP, just make it consistent.

History: Brief description on old jobs, lovers, family, major events in life, distinctions.

Equipment: Anything carried by your character which is used frequently, sword, hammer, chisel etc. List of samurai equipment can be found here. List of shinobi equipment can be found here.

I'm gonna have to be frank, after the part of the OP that was in the interest check thread, things get very confusing. Especially in the Ranks section. I think you should clean it up, write it again maybe, make things more easy to understand.

I'm struggling to think of any ways to simplify it, im thinking to move the links for each warriors equipment to the sign up sheet for reference if people are a bit stuck on what to have. Wipe the border I set and just link a map with a border drawn. I'll try to simplify the ranking explanation but i can't really think of anything.

EDIT: Ive changed a few bits to try and remedy it. But I think their is not much interest anyway.

Dude, it's been a day since you put this up. Give it some time.

Still hasn't been that long. Trust me; I've GM'd 3 RP's in the last two years. This stuff can take time. But there is one thing that you should maybe do. Take off everything you put up after the initial Interest, and save it for later. The one thing you don't want to do is confuse your players. Make sure they're drawn in, make sure that you're getting in players, and then, start laying down the more complicated stuff. Oh, and you probably didn't need to create a second thread for Sign-up's; the Interest Thread worked just fine.

So, to sum up, you should either try to simplify everything you did after the initial post, or just get rid of it altogether for now.

Yes. If I gain interest/sign ups from around 7 people minimum I can think about starting it.

I know I'm for sure interested. But be weary, I haven't RP'd in quite some time.

I began for the first time in years a few weeks ago, I say just ask if your unsure. Anything done unintentionally is fine, just fix it and keep going

As far as pistols and guns are concerned, are they like simple flintlock?

Yes, the Era is just at the start of the introduction of gun powder, so its that whole, shoot, stuff some gun power in there, fire. Type thing.

Just thought I'd make sure, and as far as "factions" go, can you be a neutral?

Anything you can think of. A double crosser, a SIRAC spy, a blacksmith that supports the crimson imperials with donations, a former SIRAC now working for the people alone, a monk from the village, anything you can think of.

Is it possible to make a Shinobi that dual weilds Kusarigama and has a pistol?

If that's what you wish, but the pistols are flintlock, so you would shoot, attack with the kusarigama, then have to run away, drop it, reload for half a minute, and repeat. And remember it doesn't have to be a shinobi, their is as many possibilities are their were in reality.

Interested. Thinking of a shinobi-trained unaffiliate/mercenary whose main weapon is his armor (bladed in almost every concievable location one could strike an opponent using) and a smaller one-handed custom katana to be used almost exclusively with iaijutsu who bears more than a slight grudge against his old clan.

Sounds interesting. I was thinking if I had enough interest to consider a somewhat magic system to do with chakra and chi and so on, different styles of magic, like, performance enhancing styles, element manipulation, Mind control/manipulation etc etc. But I think their is only 3ish people expressed interest.

How dark can my character be?

The magic system does sound a bit interesting.

As much as you wish. As long as it's explanable. Like if his family was murdered turning him into an evil type of guy, just get an excuse for it and you can make him a complete psychopath if you wish.
