"My my, this is getting interesting. A serious matter of security, it's my job to protect the people, I'm obligated to join" He said with a grin. It seemed monotony would no longer be a part of his life.

"Well..." Cyan said sheepishly. "I'm going to be aboard, at least until we reach Pastoria, so I might as well help, if I can." Though all this talk of wars and gods were making him nervous.

Lapin had stood back as everyone introduced themselves to each other. It really wasn't any of her business as to what everyone's names were...

She was about to return below deck when talk began of warring with the Heavens and rare crystals. The people who held off the attack on the ship earlier all made verbal agreements to stay aboard. Lapin considered her options. She could simply ignore them and continue on her way to... Let's be honest with ourselves: Nowhwhere important. We aren't on orders from SeeD, and these soldiers concern me...

She quietly stepped toward the group. "I'm Lapin Delacroix. I..." She cast a quick, uncertain glance downward, then back at the group. "I would like to assist."

She performed a quick bow.

Suddenly, there was a pounding on the door leading below deck, followed by a frenzied yelling. Eventually, the door slammed open and a young boy with silver hair and bright cyan eyes ran out.

"Mom?" yelled Hope frantically, "Where are yo- Oh." His words were cut off as he looked around him; bodies laying everywhere, a bunch of strangers looking at him oddly, and his mother nowhere in sight.

"I, um... What happened here?" he asked. "Where is... Where's my mom? Who are you guys?"

Everyone looked at the young woman. Since she had fought in the rear of the ship, they did not see her earlier.

"She aided us against the intruders" one of the port guards, who had followed her out, explained. "With some pretty good spells, I might add."

Suddenly, the boy came out, surprising everybody even more. "Calm down, son!" Cid said. "The ship was attacked by- umm, well we actually don't know who, but anyway we beat them off, they're gone. Now what's this about your mother?"

"I... I can't find her anywhere," Hope explained, looking around as he did so. "I woke up to the sound of fighting, and she was gone. I searched the entire below deck, but I couldn't find her. So I came up here to look for her, and- oh my gods."

Hope ran over to one of the bodies: a woman with silver hair matching his. Her bluegreen eyes stared upward vacantly.

"Ohgodsnonono," Hope muttered, clutching her cold dead hand. "No, please, no. Mom, and answer me! Tell me you're okay, please!"

The body lay still. Silent. Tears poured from Hope's eyes, running down his checks. "Why? How could they... How could they do this?"

Everyone stared in shock at the tragic scene. It's one thing to watch a dead body, it's another when someone reminds you that it used to be a human being, with loved ones.

Cyan realized that the boy's mother must have been among the passengers who panicked when the first attack struck, and tried to run out only to be caught in the crossfire. He felt somewhat responsible; If only he'd been able to get to them faster!

No use crying over that, he decided. He went over to the boy and said, "Look uh, you should get back inside, let the authorities deal with her." Then he added, "The people who did this, they will be back, I'm sure. We'll get them. I promise."

"I... But... Yeah. Okay." The boy wiped the tears from his cheek before getting up and walking back to the door. He was about to go back below deck, when he stopped.

"Wait. The people who did this, you said you guys would get them," he turned around to face Cyan. "I... I want to help." His voice seemed hesitant, but his eyes were full of determination. "I don't know how much I can help you guys, but," he looked over at his mother's body. "But they will pay for this."

Cyan stared back at the others. The boy might be capable of helping, or, he might be way in over his head.

Still, his feelings were completely understandable at this moment. Cyan told him what he needed to hear:

"I'm sure you'll get your chance."

Then he led him back downstairs.

Kyle walked over by the kid standing over his mother's body, he definitely knew how the kid felt. He had seen his mother wither and die in his own hands. To a curse he never knew he possessed until that minute.

A curse given to him for no real reason, one that saw him thrown out of house and home, and left to rot

This kid was fortunate in a way, in that his mother still had a body, so that he could look at her and remember who he wanted dead. With him, all he had was a tiny case of ashes.

As wizard "Cyan" started walking downstairs, Kyle followed, silent and without word.

Falchias nodded at the crewman and guards to continue with the moving of the bodies and the search. He stood with his arms crossed, watching as the boy arrived and discovered his dead mother. He momentarily caught his breath, but let it out almost instantly. He stared hard as he spoke of helping, and watched him as he was led downstairs by the Blue mage. He followed on. He's young, and small. He may not be of use, or he may be. I'm counting on the latter, and that's before we have trained him He said with a smile. Things were getting interesting indeed.

"No, but this is my chance!" Hope argued. "I can't just... Just watch my mom get killed and not do something about it! I want to help."

He looked up at the mage, eyes wide and pleading. "I won't let you guys down. I promise."

"You know Cyan. The boy has just lost his mother, yet he is pleading to let you join us. I know at that age I would've have grabbed the first sword and stuck inside everything in sight then myself. He is strong willed. With guidance, he could have a lot of potential. If we all pitched in a little bit of our skills. We could have our selves a nice little assistant." Falchias said, flicking his gaze toward the boy. He was young. Much more capable at a lot of things than any of them were. He would be handy to have indeed.

Cyan looked at the Dragoon somewhat baffled. The boy had just lost his mother and this guy's thoughts were of how much it would strengthen him?? But then again, he was a warrior, maybe that was their mindset. Cyan was more worried about how the boy felt right now.

He did have a point, though, in that the boy would likely seek vengeance, no matter what they did, and he'd better be ready for it. "Umm, I guess" he said to Falchias.

Meanwhile, some distance from there, in the fleeing enemy ship:

"You FAILED!?" a screechy woman's voice said over a radio-like device to the brown-dressed commander of the attackers. "HOW could you have failed?? It was a passenger ship! All you had to do was take over it!!!"

"We encountered- stronger resistance than expected" the man responded. "There were two mages and several warriors among the passengers. They delayed us too long and the port security caught up to us. I lost about half my men."

The woman cursed. "Do they suspect anything?"

"I don't think so. I'm convinced our Galbadian uniforms threw them off."

"Very well. I'm sending you special reinforcements. And Captain? Do. NOT. Fail. Me. Again."

The man gulped.

((Players: if you feel you need to have a scene for your characters before the Alexis takes off, post it now.))

Or he could get us all killed thought Steiner but it wasn't his place to object. It was a nigh certainty the boy would get himself killed if left alone. If not in some hastily thought out revenge scheme then come the next pirate attack there would be one more body. Steiner was in no mode to burden himself with another life lost, so he gave the boy an appraising eye.

"You boy, what is your name? Have you ever used a sword? or are you a magic user?"

Lapin stood by while Cyan comforted the boy. In a way, she could sympathize with him as she lost her own mother when she was very young. And while she knew that revenge could motivate someone to do impossible things, more often than not, it led only to death. The boy didn't appear to have any kind of martial training but she knew well enough that looks could be deceiving.

Wordlessly, she walks past the two boys and the knight and headed to her quarters.

"My names Hope Estheim," the boy answered. "I've never used a sword before, but..." He pulled a large foldable boomerang out of his back pocket, and unfolded it, showing it to the knight. "I have this. My dad used to take me out hunting with it when I was little. I can use it pretty well."

"Magic isn't very common where I'm from," he continued, "But I'm sure if I have someone to teach me, I can learn quickly." He looked up expectantly, trying to hide his excitement at the fact that they let him join them.

"Interesting weapon. But I do doubt it's effectiveness, but im sure some materia or magic enhancment could make it much more capable. But I haven't seen you use it, for all I know you could kill us all with it." Falchias said, walking slowly around the scene. "I can teach you battle tacics, and martial arts, those should come in handy. Im sure everyone else has a few tricks to show you" He said looking at everyone else.

And so Kyle decided to speak up, make sure the kid was safe and secure. "Don't worry, I'll watch out for him. Make sure he doesn't get hurt. I'll wither any enemy that gets too close to him to dust."

Now he could finally use his evil power for good. Make sure this kid could avenge his mother...and hopefully, avenge his own in due time.

Both were people with quite a lot of misery now. While Kyle was moody and somewhat withdrawn, it looked like Hope was still, well, hopeful, and not willing to give up. Kyle just hoped that Hope wouldn't become like him.

It took a while, but soon enough, all the bodies had been cleared from the deck, and it had been wiped clean, nothing remained (other than bullet holes.) Despite appearances, a quick check of the Alexis confirmed that the ship had taken no major damage- another sign that it was the ship and not the passengers that the intruders had been after.

After all passengers had returned to their seats, the take-off signal was given. The ship's engines hummed again, generating a gravity-defying field that, along with its propellers, allowed the multi-ton hulk to fly. Within moments, they were airborne, and soaring away through the sky.

For a while, the trip was uneventful, the only thing to see were birds and clouds. The passengers remained mainly silent, probably due to the shock of the attack. And then suddenly a voice was heard to shout:

"SHIP AHOY!!"

It was one of the crew, announcing that another flying vehicle was approaching. Cyan quickly looked over the window, and recognized it as the flying pod from earlier.

"They're back!!" he shouted, as he grabbed his staff and ran out to the deck, hoping the other warriors would follow as promised.

Once outside, despite being battered by the wind, Cyan could see the vehicle hovering above the open deck, its lower hatch open, as if to once again drop a team of soldiers.

Instead, something huge and metallic dropped, landing on the deck with a crash! [1]

"A machina!" the young mage gasped. He immediately began to cast Big Guard, knowing a big fight was now about to happen.

Falchias was on the deck, in the cockpit with the pilots. He stood with his helmet under his arm and his Halberd resting beside him. He heard shouting in the main deck and turned around, "This may be trouble, get ready to do some getaway tricks" He said smiling, he put his helmet on, picked up his Halberd and stepped onto the open deck. He saw a giant metal machine dropping onto the deck from the airship that had escaped earlier. "My my, trouble seems to be everywhere today"

He spotted the mage from earlier on the other side of the machine. "I hope you have some fancy spells up your robes! Metal on metal wont work, I'll have to climb on and start ripping it apart at the joints!" He shouted at him. He poised his halberd, ready for the incoming battle.

Lapin had been lightly dozing in her cabin when she felt the ship lurch downward, as if something large had fallen on it. She knew it was trouble, so she quickly strapped on her shield and ran onto the deck. She found this Mage from earlier, Cyan was his name, and the knight Falchias, already getting ready to engage the mechanical monster.

She narrowed her eyes. She hated engaging mechs. During her SeeD exam, she was nearly killed by one...

She almost considered summoning Shiva, but didn't want to bother her unless things got desperate. She decided to stick to regular Black magic for now.

Her body grew cold as ice crystals swept around her arms. She trust her open palm toward the machine and shouted, "Ice!"

-*CRINKLE!*

Waves of superintense cold washed over the robot, and ice covered part of it. Some pieces cracked and shattered. But, its bulk was too massive to destroy so easily.

Instead, the metal monstrosity spun around, to face Cyan and Lapin (its back was now facing to Falchias.) "Program 1 Operation" it suddenly said, in a sterile, mechanical voice. "Big Bomber" it added, and a projectile of some kind was launched into the air, aimed at the two heroes.

BOOM!

Thankfully, Cyan had finished his protection spell in time, and both he and the young woman were shielded by it, though they still felt a strong concussion from the detonation. He was not sure how many more of these attacks they could take...

Falchias stepped back, as ice sprayed all over the machine, not doing much lethal damage. It spun around to Cyan and Lapin, who repelled it's attack. I'll need to climb on and try to rip the thing apart until it's vulnerable, but that ice may make it tricky. He gripped his halberd at the base of the handle, quickly spun around and threw it. It landed right where he wanted, buried into the ice and into the weaker joints between the head and neck. He jumped up and landed straight down onto its head, using the halberd as an extra foothold. He drew his short sword. "You guys see an opening let me know, if it has eyes or inner mechanics opening up or something" He shouted at the mages. He needed to find the best area to attack and fast, he doubted the machine would let him stay on it's head for long.

Indeed, steel on steel never worked out very well for him.

Kyle had to wait until there was a chance to get in an attack on the machina's weak point. That it was not alive meant he was already down a few options.
