Oh man. Save them, Thursday Club guy!
Who the hell is that Kureichiro then?
Hmm. Y'know how a few episodes ago they made of point of establishing that Tanuki could recognize each other by scent, and how the brothers were really unsettled by how different their father smelt directly after a bath? This begs the question: how exactly did this apparently fake Kureichiro manages to fool the Ebisugawa siblings?

"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."Can we count on Nidaime?
Either Tenmaya or Soun? The former for the tricks he's apparently familiar with and has used illusions before but the latter makes more sense being a tanuki and familiar with how their society works but then the show would have to explain how he faked his own death

"If music be the food of love, PLAY ON" - William ShakespeareSo Kureichiro isn't Kureichiro, and Kaisei/Yasaburo are going to get eaten. Man this arc has been excellent so far.
Episode 11: So turns out the fake Kureichiro was actually Soun. I have a feeling that Tenmaya's the key to explaining what's been going on.
Pompoko Mask was probably my favorite part of this episode. I really hope the professor didn't drown while trying to restrain Tenmaya.
Also it was nice to see Ginkaku seperate from his brother for a little bit, he was one of the flatter characters so that scene helped him flesh him out some more.

This was actually a pretty poorly thought out scheme on Soun's part. Surely he didn't expect the real Kureichiro to stay out of the picture forever.
I also wonder to what extent Kinkaku and Ginkaku were in on it.
"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."I guess the relation between Kureichiro and Soun is so bad that Soun didn't expect Kureichiro to show up at his own funeral. He wasn't wrong either, because Kureichiro only showed up because of Yajiro.
Yeah, but it's still just a matter of time. Kureichiro was going to hear about what was going on sooner or later, as soon as he did, the jig would be up.
but really it makes perfect sense for this plan to not be terribly well thought out, because he probably didn't have much time to think it through- There's no way he thought of any of this before Tenmaya shot him unless both Benten and Tenmaya were in on the plan, and if he's trusting those two to not backstab him at any point in a plan that convoluted, that's an entirely different kind of not thinking the plan through.

"Canada Day is over, and now begins the endless dark of the Canada Night."That, and he's a tanuki. They're idiots by default.
But man, what an amazing episode. Pompoko Mask managed to help save the day, and I will fondly remember Yasaburo shoving Jyurojin's face out of the way. Also Soun almost got his own daughter eaten.
There was just so much stuff in this episode. Benten crying. Nidaime probably feeling like the tanuki have taken him for a fool. The dream conversation with Shimogamo Souichiro. Even the tanuki girl called Seiran. Again, amazing ep.
Episode 12
Benten getting scuffed up for the first time and her hair set on fire has all the impact it should. Same with the Nidaime, with his emotional breakdown at all that's transpired. Interesting to see what split him from Akadama.
Huh so Soun wasn't planning to fake his death, that's interesting.
Yay Gyokuran finally tied the knot with Yaichiro.
Seems fitting that a foolish thing way back in Yasaburo's childhood is what causes him to lose focus around Kaisei.
Season 2's finale didn't quite reach the emotional peaks that season 1's finale did, but it was just as good.
So glad Yasaburo and Kaisei are semi-officially an item now. Finally.
There are several things worth exploring more, but the story is stopping for now unfortunately.

Heh. Not only is Nidaime every inch a Tengu, he's every inch his father's son. I suppose that's why Akadama was the one who made the gesture of reconciliation, once he found a context where his pride would allow it; he can no longer judge his son.
