Interest Check: Bleach Alternate Universe Thread

Well, I tried looking at animal themes for hollow ideas, but couldn't find many that both appealed to me and hadn't already been done before.

One of my human NP Cs can absorb energetic attacks including kidou up to capacity of his pocket dimension, which is not bigger than spiritual energy his body can store. But even if he cannot absorb everything he can reduce the strength of the attack considerably. And release back the stored energy at the opponent.

I'm kinda lacking when it comes to Espadas. Feel free to send me your concepts and i'll credit you for them :)

My next Captain concept is a gambling themed character, and since naturally gender doesn't matter, I'll design the female Captain this time because there are too many male Captains at the moment XD

Good for him? I'm confused why you've bothered telling me this, unless you're going to set up mirror matches to negate everyone's abilities and make things incredibly dull. :/

Traditional, though the idea has kind of evolved from that point. Over the course of last night, I've envisioned a tall (A little over twice the height of a human), gaunt, effeminate seeming humanoid (Though still pretty far from Vasto-lorde humanoid) hollow. It's mask being fairly simple at first glance; it appears similar to a noh mask with something like a glasgow grin in place revealing it's toothy maw. from the edges of the mask long dark hair flows down to about mid-back, contributing to it's unsettling feminine appearance.

It's most unique quality being that hidden across it's body are other mouths all as tooth filled, and powerful, as the first. Kind of went in the direction of embodying hunger.

No, just as a trivia. I won't make dull match ups like that

Gaunt looks make your Hollow partially overlap when it comes to looks with Pretas, spirits that embody hunger, so you are going the right direction :)

Gambling is maybe too vaguely defined concept, so I'll go with something more specific. Maybe Mahjong, since I'm fan of the Legend of Koizumi

The preta is a good way to sum up this theme; plus it takes things into a different territory from most hollows.

I plan on this character having an atypically philosophical bend for a hollow; often musing on the nature of power and it's own nature as a hollow. This would also give him some flexibility interacting with non-hollow characters, given that most hollows wouldn't offer much in the way of interesting conversation. I also envision him as something of a picky eater. I'll fill out more for the actual character pitch later. I have head out for a while, shortly.

Hmmm... Might be interesting, since part of my Arrancar concept that really needs to be sorted out to be more coherent is that she believes that strength isn't everything, and that with intelligence and planning the gap between weak and strong becomes practically non-existant.

...Except against Kenpachi, obviously, because there's a point where strength becomes so overwhelming that technique becomes utterly useless against it, but yeah.

umm...thinking of a Soul Reaper that uses acting like an utterly ridiculous airhead (complete with spontaneous communication through dance if necessary) in order to throw off his enemies. And because it's fun.

The next Captain. Quite a seedy character, but not all Captains need to be a paragon of morality. She ended up as something more like Yakuza than gambler.

8th Division's Captain: Captain Takashi Shizuka

Takashi Shizuka is the head of Takashi house which belongs to the Five Great Noble Houses of Soul Society. She is considered by fellow nobility and more honor minded members of the Gotei 13 as a black sheep. Shizuka is a thrill seeker obsessed with putting herself at risk. The kind of risk does not matter, she is equally fond of gambling and fighting. She is indeed performing well in her role as the strongest combatant of her division, but she leaves tasks which she finds mundane to her subordinates and retainers of her House. She is considered to have stained her House by running such frowned upon but technically not banned by the authorities enterprises like gambling houses and red districts in the Inner Rukongai, which she does probably more to spite fellow nobility than increase her House's influence in Rukongai. Rumor has it she may be involved in less legal activities, but nobody have caught up her red handed.

I think I might stick with my need for speed shinigami with the fire boots shikai. If only because I'm more knowledgeable about hand to hand stuff then music stuff.

You know, the biggest question is 'why would there be Espada in particular with no Aizen'?

Well, there was an Espada before Aizen got to Hueco Mundo. When he took over he just happened to have most of them replaced with his new and improved Arrancars, turning the survivors into the Privaron Espada; as I recall, only Aaroniero Arruruerie was left on the Espada and he was bumped to the 9th spot. Presumably Neliel would have still been on the Espada if she hadn't been indisposed.

I assume the Espada were a less organized force before then, and were more just the top 10 well known arrancar in Hueco Mundo.

EDIT: Correction Nnoitra remained on the Espada, and Aizen actually allowed him to become stronger.

... that explanation makes no sense, if I'm to be entirely honest, because pretty much all of them were still Hollows before he showed up, and if there was going to be an Espada at that point it would presumably have been under Barragan. Fairly sure the Espada as it is is Aizen's creation.

Speaking of which, how ARE we explaining Arrancar in this?

Not really clear if they were something solely fashioned by Aizen or something he hijacked. I'd just say it's Katsura's call on the Espada's origins for the alternate universe.

Really it kind of makes sense that our characters wouldn't know where the Espada originated, only that they exist.

Er... Arrancar aren't exactly something that just spontaneously arise. There were... basically none, at all, before Aizen wandered over to Hueco Mundo. Similar thing with the flip side of that, with Ichigo being the notable exception of someone who managed to end up as one of those things (I hate having two names and spellings for everything and I cannot decide which to use) without fishy jiggery-pokery. It's why I'm wondering how we're explaining their existence and the existence of the Espada.

Actually there were. Starrk became an Arrancar before he met Aizen according to the Bleach Wiki.

And aside from Stark I did get the implication that there were Arrancar that Aizen had no hand in creating, suggesting it could be something that some Hollows had natural capacity for; it's just the ones that Aizen created/augmented tended to be more powerful than natural Arrancar. This seems to be implied by the fact that there were a fair number of Arrancar that chose not to serve Aizen, and just remained neutral (It's mentioned that Nnoitra had previously wiped out colonies of arrancar that weren't loyal to Aizen, for the lolz). I can't imagine Aizen would have allowed them to go about their business if he had hand in their growth. If only because he would want to keep them nearby in case any of them displayed unusual abilities from his process.

Mostly speculation on my part but it feels right to me.

Arrancar? Kind of up in the air, but I would guess that they existed before anyone started mucking around with hollows and their masks.

Katsura would have to make the final call, I would guess.

Yup, in my setting as well as in canon Arrancars do occur naturally. Espada exists, but its origin are kind of different than canon's. There is still non-Arrancar responsible for ts creation, but he was more subtle about it than Aizen. No direct control, he just implanted in few most powerful Arrancars idea that they could organize themselves to fight Soul Reapers efficiently than on their own. He left Espada to its own devices, but implanted a mole in the Top 4 to observe the organization and subtly manipulate it if necessary.

As for the members of Espada, I have filled 4 positions so far. I will consider adding those 2 Espadas here provided I know more details on them, so I could rank them properly.

Well actually....hmmm, I was hoping you would take the liberty of tuning the two to your own liking. Nevertheless I will add one bit: the two should be related to each other. That's all really since I see you are making most of the characters yourself I thought that it'd be best with minimal input from me.

Someone remind me what the options for Hollow character creation/progression are?
