Here's the thread for the Anime of Hiromu Arakawa's Silver Spoon.

Please keep all spoilers from the manga out of this thread, or if you absolutely must mention something, spoiler-tag and flag it.

If you want to discuss the manga, the thread for that is here. Discussion comparing the way something was handled in the anime with how it was handled in the manga can go in either thread, depending on where you think it fits better.

New episode.

[DESPAIR INTENSIFIES] But Hachiken is there for Mikage! And she has a dream!

If I'm sure of something it's that I'm not sure of anything.

I think I've figured out why they did it (the ending theme doesn't fit well with the cliffhangerish ending) but damn! Ending credits starting with six minutes on the clock. That's one hell of stinger.

Oh, right, forgot to comment on the last ep. I wrote it, but forgot to post...

Episode 8. In which there are bad news.

Blessed are the cheese makers. Slightly less blessed are the ones who clean. And even less blessed are the ones who eat natto. And I like Mayumi here.

I kinda wonder why he's surprised that making cheese takes several months. Isn't that common knowledge? I mean, sure, there's fresh cheese, but that's not what they were making.

She's a proper lady. Finish chewing before putting her foot on the table to pose dramatically.

But she shows one thing. There are a lot of eccentric people here, but basically all of them are reasonable and grounded once push comes to shove.

Working up a good reputation is excellent for when you want to sneak behind it.

Yeah, he's not going to let anyone suffer if he can do anything at all about it. Or at least help them cope.

Episode 9. In which there's support.

Not the fastest, but he did spot the mood. But by then it's always too late.

I like Karin's scythe. The angle is a little steep, but it's still cool.

"Don't underestimate idiots!" Well said.

Conspicuous CG trucks.

That's an early outro. Which means things will turn.

Saying he'll sell the horses feels like such a calculated move.

Still not getting any easier.

But with this, the Komaba Ranch incident comes to a close. And now we move on to the Mikages...

Episode 10. In which Hachi makes a call.

I don't think she should pretend she never asked. It's a fairly decent offer.

Damned by Faint Praise?

Okay, that worked a little too well. But it's a good study tip. It'a always easier to remember what you're actually interested in.

I'm not sure I've seen such a pastel version of the Sanzu.

Everyone's surprised that they're not dating. Well, they're in that stage where they're only technically not dating.

"I'll do anything!" Well, she was honest about it. Even it it came to studying. It would've been funny if he instead suggested something involving their relationship. Since I'm pretty sure she'd accept that too.

Her family thinks so highly of her academic potential...

Hachi says he might get a deeper knowledge of a topic by teaching someone else. There's really no "might" in there. He will. Teaching someone about a subject you're taking yourself will help your own grades.

So next up will be winter troubles?

That "I'll take responsibility!" Oh Gods, that family reactions. Also the execution and the reunion with Pork Bowl.

It's not impossible, but there's not much reason for them to make one. The anime has been selling below expectations, and the manga is popular enough already that the advertising effect barely made a dent in it. It's the kind of thing that's more generally popular than otaku-popular, and the general public doesn't buy many anime DVDs. A theatrical release seems like it might work though.

That said, I wouldn't be terribly surprised either way.

Episode 11. In which a mother appears.

"I can do that. I can do that too. And that too." Cultural clashes are funny.

(Adjusts glasses.) "It's a girl!"

Imposing father is imposing.

Tama is about as harsh as his father.

They're so fast when it comes to getting good food out.

"It's like seeing a photo of farmers on the packaging." Which is a common marketing trick.

Nice episode. Kind of feels like nothing much happens, but builds up for the future. Probably a good place to end a season.

Okay, so did it end at ep11, or am I just getting too impatient waiting for 12?

At least Hachiken has a good mother. He should have known that bragging about is female friend would get that kind of reaction at this point. Over all this seems like a great place to leave things off at. It's just a shame there probably won't be another season. Well on the the manga.

Sorry for the double post. While I was trying to figure out where to start with the manga, I found a couple scenes that were left out. I'll probably start reading from the begining.

[up] Yeah. I think they skipped the Freshmen War. It doesn't really contribute much, but it's kinda funny.

And of course, they had to cut a few scenes out here and there (though the effects weren't really anything much), so reading it from the beginning might be a good call.

[up] Personally I'd like the showdown with Eezo Engineering to be animated, mostly because I found the comparison between what the guys were doing vs the laid back fun the girls were having.
