We have a review section, you know
Thats not a entirely accurate character summation of either Raleigh or Mako. In fact i think its a bit misleading.
Raleigh Beckett did not lose his brother in one of the first Kaiju attacks. He and his brother were experienced pilots in the Jeiger program which had been up and running with enough time having passed sine the first attacks for Kaiju to become an everyday fact of life, when a battle with a Kaiju went badly leading to the loss of his brother. He is in no way a loose cannon. He is very kind hearted and consistent and doesnt need to learn how to be a hero because he is already a pretty decent guy.
Mako Mori is not traunatised by her past. One scene shows her becomes lost in a tragic memory whilst merging minds with Raleigh and Gypsy Danger for the first time but she was a rookie with no previosu experience in this and even Raliegh a seasoned proffesional had a bit of trouble resitsing getting lost in tragic memories. The rest of the film Mako is a kind hearted determined young woman.
"Mako Mori is not traunatised by her past."
She very obviously is, actually.
'All he needs is for somebody to throw handgrenades at him for the rest of his life...'It's too awesome to be contained on just the review page.
Watch SymphogearIN-FUCKING-DEED, MAN! THIS FILM IS THE FILM TO END ALL FILMS! UNTIL THE SEQUEL COMES ALONG, THAT IS!
And Rayleigh is a Nice Guy through and through. He only gets violent when Mako gets called a b*tch.
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.More like until Godzilla2014 comes around.
Watch SymphogearGodzilla only has kaiju. Pacific Rim has giant robots. I want more giant robots.

"If you're out here why do I miss you so much?"Mecha Godzilla...
Watch SymphogearThat idea was even dumber than any Jaeger.

Pacific RIM review time!
Short version: See It NOW!
Long version: This was a blast, and anyone who grew up with any kind of giant monster or giant robot movie or TV show owes it to themselves to see this.
The lead, Raleigh Beckett, is a loose cannon type who develops slowly over the film into a genuine hero. His older brother died in one of the first kaiju attacks and it changes his life forever.
The secondary, Mako Mori, played by Rinko Kikuchi. is a gal traumatized by events of her past...she has spunk and wit that make her easily my favorite character in the movie and the most standout.
The other most notable character to talk about is Slacker Pentecost. A man that commands immediate respect, his authoritative presence is just the kind of thing Kobayashi Keiju and Jun Tazaki would have done in the kaiju films of old. He is genuinely likeable and commands you pay attention to him through his voice alone.
Ron Perlman is Ron Perlman...nuff said.
As for the big stuff, the kaiju and giant robots, it is safe to say that this is the kinda thing lovers of giant monsters and robots dream of. Aesthetically pleasing, recalling the kaiju of olden days yet looking very "real". The Jaegers are all designed satisfactory and are easy on the eyes, unlike Michael Bay's messes in Transformers.
The fight scenes and general atmosphere felt like a love letter to kaiju fandom. Pulling no punches, the destruction scenes are awe inspiring and just the thing visionaries like Eiji Tsuburaya and Teruyoshi Nakano would have only dreamed of creating.
Bottom line see it.
In this world of remakes, rehashes and disappointing sequels, this is a breath of fresh air.
Go see it.
