Godzilla (2014)

The leaked Encounter footage can be found on Youtube still, I'm not linking just in case... but yeah, I like the look they're apparently aiming for even if various places have said the Godzilla seen at the Encounter isn't the "final" design. It'll probably be similar though.

At 300 meters tall, he could probably step on the Jagears with his foot. Hell, he'd probably accidentally step on the statue of liberty.

I'd rather wait on an official stream shot then see an off-center sideways blurry shakycam picture...

At 300 meters a Jaeger would indeed just barely make it over his knee.

Parts of this interview are making me wonder if those rumors that Hedorah's the main villain might be onto something.

People said Monster X was Hedorah at one point too. I'm starting to think that hinting at Hedorah will become a Running Gag.

Well that's good news.

Y'know what? If this particular rampage happens in the United States, I want the Army and Air Force to get wrecked when they try to stop him. Bonus points if the generals in charge of the effort are confident that the American military will handily win. EXTRA bonus points if they try using tactical nukes.

Because that's what's supposed to happen in a Godzilla movie.

I know but the extra emphasis on it seems odd to me. Why do you need to point out that you want tanks to be ineffective rather than just expecting it as a matter of course?

Probably because the last movie that was a nostalgia trip on fighting giants had the military be way too damn effective.

I was mainly speaking of what happened in [Godzilla1998]. Four missiles. Four fucking missiles fired from a pair of jets was all it took to kill the beast they had the gall to name Godzilla. That's not how it's supposed to work.

Agreed nothing short of a bunker buster should down Godzilla. And even one of those should only knock him out of the fight for a few minutes while his healing factor does its magic.

After ordering the Gamera Heisei trilogy on a 3 in 1 blu ray disc off amazon, I wondered.

If this new godzilla is a worldwide success, maybe whoever owns Gamera can ask Gareth Edwards to direct a reboot. And if that's successful, maybe he can do what people have been wanting to see for decades.

And if THAT is successful, as opposed to just Godzilla vs. Pacific Rim, add in Gamera, too.

Heh. Gamera's popularity HAS always been on the heels of Godzilla's. I obviously prefer the king of the monsters, but the friend to all children is also one hell of a Kaiju.

I predict we WILL see another Gamera movie. I... Don't know about that particular scenario though.

In fact, the Heisei gamera movies are considered better then the Heisei era of godzilla, actually.

I know asking is a long shot but is there any chance this Godzilla will be played as the famous Anti-Hero rather than a mindless monster a la 2000's?

I take exception to the idea that the 00's Godzilla was mindless. : V A rage-filled and territorial animal, certainly, but he had his own will.

It could happen.

I would love to see an angle in the film like the beginning of Gx Megs, where we see what it's like from a soldier's POV to face something gigantic,mean and practically invincible.

Too bad the rest of that movie was AWFUL.

@ Matt: Gareth Edwards said godzilla would be both a Force of Nature and eventual Anti-hero in this new movie, yes.

Would it be sweet if there was some kind of Japanese animated OVA prequel series set during the Jaegers' glory days? I could see that being possible if this really catches on in Japan, and it looks like it already has.
