The Dragredder idea also had me thinking of an idea with specific booster packs. Basically, select characters get their own themed booster packs called "Character Inserts" or something like that, and it comes with a Character Card and 2-4 Action Cards for them, with the slim chance of having an Upgrade Card or an Environment Card.
So for the Dragredder Character Insert:
- Character Card: Dragredder (Basic Attack is through biting)
- Action Card: Strike Vent (Shoots a fireball)
- Action Card: Sword Vent (Slashes with his tail)
- Action Card: Guard Vent (Uses his body to shield himself from attacks)
- Environment Card: Mirror World (Ryuki Riders and Mirror Monsters) The Arena turns into a mirrored version of itself, with some wandering Mirror Monsters that attack anyone who provoke them.
I like that idea. Maybe we can call them Character Starter Packs?
Oh yeah, and I finished Sam's bio. It has a possible mini plot you guys might be interested in. I may even type up the Championship duel mentioned in it if I get the time.
Well now that I'm accepted, guess I'll drop a line in here.
... You know, something that didn't occur to me to ask about before; how does the projection of the characters and environments from the Omni-reader work? I don't mean the science behind it, I mean things like: Are the projections just visual, or can they physically interact with the real world at all? Or vice versa? Also, what scale are they? Are Link and Rico going to be the size of actual people, or like little models?
I've gotten the impression that the scale's meant to be 1:1, but it only just now occurred to me about the physical interaction part, so I figured I'd go ahead and ask about both.
You are reading this. How it works is extremely complicated science to the point where part of each card is basically magic to regular people, so I won't even bother trying to make sense of it. The Characters are physically there and the correct size they should be, but the Omni-Reader shrinks the huge ones down a little if it senses there isn't enough room to fit normally. Characters can also interact with people and objects, and are even capable of eating and sleeping if summoned outside of a fight (but they don't need to do that to survive). All of their abilities are nerfed outside of a fight to avoid people abusing Omni-Card powers to commit crimes. This last part actually becomes a plot point. Character Cardss can be de-summoned at a single verbal command or button press by the owner to the Omni-Reader if they need to. They have quite a bit of utility other than dueling, it you think about it.
So they appear like if you're using a Duel Disk in the Yu Gi Oh anime?
So something like the Omni-reader being an amped-up version of the mobile holo emitter ala Star Trek: Voyager, and the cards being like complex data chips.
Given the potential application, I could imagine these things being used more for not dueling than for dueling. Heavy lifting, (summon a big strong guy) search and rescue, (summon packs of dudes to spread out) anything involving situations too hazardous for people, (summon something impervious to said hazard) or just general help around with whatever you might need help with. (Are you imagining an old lady using Slenderman to help her reach items on the top shelf? Because I am. )
Alright. I can't remember if this was already brought up, but what about the technology for the rest of the setting? I'm guessing to keep with the genre, it's basically life just like we know it today, only with the dueling game addition and maybe a couple other more minor technologies.
You are reading this.Somehow or another, I'm turning these two songs into cards.
Also, totally Shana's battle theme.
Yeah, once the card is swiped, they apear with their own individual animation, like the beginning of a Super Smash Bros fight.
life is only slightly more high tech, with more computer automated things.
I think I'm going to rework my deck; I have a better grasp on what I should be including in terms of card effects. I'll also swap out Necrolyte for Bounty Hunter for the time being; I have an idea on what to do with him.
Les' do dis.

(I don't know how to embed videos. So I posted the link to the song. It's the theme to Grand Theft Auto Liberty City Stories)

For my first duel, I'm wanting to duel someone whose deck is on the same general power level as mine. Anybody got a deck that could match my GTA deck in terms of general power? (Badass Normal characters, modern technology, etc.)
EDIT-I just realized I double-posted. Shit.

GIVE ME YOUR FACE You wanna take this outside, Naruto hater?
I admit, I didn't get to see the whole of Gurren Lagann because Netflix deleted it, so I totally forgot about that song.
Your link failed.

After due consideration, I have found Annette's theme.
Join us in our quest to play all RPG video games! Moving on to disc 2 of Grandia!Oh, we're doing character themes now? Alright then.
Rico's theme. (And for when the Whiskey Outpost card is played, which I need to go properly rename in my signup.)

You are reading this.Welp, I just fell in love with Peter's Theme.
Does anyone have any possible plots we can follow in between tournament rounds? I plan for the first round to be a preliminary, with each team selecting a person to duel the selected Test Duelist. It'll be a good tutorial duel, and after that you guys can explore the city, mess around and interact with your Cards, and start up some duels.
Yeah, I never would have thought to use GTA as a deck set. It's gonna be fun making up decks to pit against you guys when you aren't dueling each other.
@ Psyga: Those all sound pretty good and balanced. Kinda reminds me of Megaman with the crazy variety.
You could probably still make those Action Cards. I was thinking of adding a Sonic and a possible pokemon card later on.
