Task Force - A Law Enforcement Cyberpunk/Postcyberpunk RP game

"Sir!"

Mark was the first to get inside, but he saw Chief Sanchez inside his office.

"Director Sanchez." Mark was about to salute him. "I haven't you since Northern Ireland."

"No need to salute me." Sanchez advised the SAF operator. "Take your seat. I'm about to start the debriefing."

"Understood, sir." Mark followed the Director's instructions.

"Sir!" Mathew was right behind Mark, he didn't recognize the man, but Mark seemed to. When told to Mathew took a seat, and prepared for debriefing.

Penny stepped inside the building after several minutes. Upon reaching the information desk, she presented her ID to the gynoid manning the counter. She couldn't help but notice that the design of their respective arms (the gynoid's and her own) were remarkably similar. She unconsciously flexed her fingers.

She was then showed to the elevator, where she entered and arrived on the proper floor. The heat sensors in her eye alerted her to the presence of a few others and it automatically switched to infrared. Penny blinked and bid her vision return to normal; she wasn't in a combat zone, after all.

She kept her badge in sight as she approached the office.

"I must say that I'm surprised that took the post offer, despite the fact that the media has slandered you and that there were some calls made by some parts of your family to return back and work with Philippine Pacific Corporation, the company your family created before the outbreak of World War III and the Asian War." Sanchez continued to speak to the SAF officer. "Especially since your family's been involved in commercial retail and restaurants to hotels and recently, the automotive industry with PPC being in charge of exclusively distributing Proton, Citroën, Volkswagen, Renault, Mahindra with a recent acquisition to distribute Tata Motors vehicles..."

"Director..." Mark began to reply. "I assume that you did read the reason that I joined the PNP after I graduated from the PNPA..."

"Ah, yes. About you being the black sheep." Sanchez nodded. "Quite understandable. Nevertheless, I want to start the briefing right away by explaining that the Philippine government, through the National Counter-Terrorism Action Group, wants us to be an unofficial, plainclothes public security unit that specializes in Fourth-generation warfare. We'll be working with the PNP and the NBI to get the extra burden off them especially since we're getting more and more trouble from hackers and anarchists aside from the usual terrorist or heavily armed criminal gangs."

Mendoza hurried along, getting to the meeting room, saluting and taking a seat.

Sanchez waved in Mendoza along as he continued with the debriefing.

"The NCTAG has also recruited permanent residents and dual nationals who had also served in various militaries, law enforcement and intelligence agencies over the years, especially during the last years of World War III and the Asian War. The president has signed a secret order to authorize their recruitment into our task force."

"Question." Mark asked the ex-Director. "Does this task force have a name or anything?"

Sanchez smirked. "Well, I'll leave that little assignment for you to decide. Perhaps if someone can come up with one, then I can tell the National Security Adviser about our official name since he was asking for one, not to mention a potential bonus increase in your starting salary." He then added. "I need to remind you all that since we're an unofficial unit that operates in civilian clothes, I've made it a strict order to all personnel, especially you guys, to not salute me whenever I'm around. That way, we can blend in with the civilian populace and continue with our undercover work without trouble."

He then leaned back on his office chair. "I assume that some of you may have further questions before I start wrapping up this meeting?"

"Yes sir. No saluting sir!" Ramon said jokingly, as he entered the room and saluted.

Penny entered the office in time for the briefing. As a trained sniper, she naturally didn't salute as she entered. (Sniping 101: Kill the guy that everyone salutes, or the one with the flashiest uniform.) Upon entering, she noticed Mark Chen and smiled, but remained in an "at ease" position. It would be good to work with a former commander. Unfortunately, she didn't recognize anyone else in the room...

After the initial briefing, she raised her hand and asked, "Sir, PO2 Santos. As plain clothes officers, I'm assuming we'll be tasked with performing undercover operations as well?"

Sanchez acknowledged Penny's question and nodded.

"Yes we will. On high-risk cases, we'll take the lead in undercover operations. But depending on what the National Security Adviser has to say or the president, we may have to work with our sister agencies, as well as with other foreign law enforcement agencies."

Sanchez was about to wrap things when he showed a small box with keycards inside.

"Take these." The ex-Director said. "You'll need them to access certain basement floors when you use the elevator. Someone will meet you downstairs."

"Understood, sir."

Mark took the keycard and went back to the floor's elevator lobby and got the doors open for an available elevator car.

Mendoza also took a keycard. "Sir," he said to Sanchez, then following Mark.

"Should I call you sir, since we're not saluting?" Mathew said while taking the keycard.

Sanchez shrugged. "You can address me as chief if you wish."

He then eyed Matthew, "Better get going. The others are waiting for you."

Mark got in the open elevator car and flipped the switch to stop the car from moving. He inserted the keycard after he spotted a slot for it in the button panel.

"Looks like it works." A click sound was heard after he inserted the keycard.

Sanchez got a phone call from his IP phone thatsomething important just came with.

"Understood, Mr. Secretary. The team is ready to be mobilized at a moment's notice.

"Everyone here?" Mark asked in order to check if everyone was present and accounted for.

"I am," Mendoza said in response to Mark.

After taking her keycard and entering the elevator, she replied, "Present, Sir. It's a pleasure working with you again."

"Didn't expect to see you here, Santos." Mark greeted the SAF sniper. "The last time I heard, you were still adjusting yourself to the new prosthetics you received."

He peeked out of the elevator. "That latecomer kid better not be late."

"Don't worry, I'm not!" Ramon said, teasing as he looked the soldier in the eye with a grin and a wink.

Mathew entered the elevator behind the others. "So ummmm I'm Mathew." He said. "It's a pleasure to meet all of you, I'll assume we all have about the same idea of what's going on, right?"

Santos flashed a smile at Mark and nodded. "Yup! It still throws off my depth perception every now and then, but for the most part, I got it under control."

She moved to the side as the next two recruits entered the elevator. She nidded politely to them, and introduced herself likewise to Matthew. "SO2 Penelope Santos." She extended her hand in greeting. (If he shook her hand, Matthew would notice that her hand felt like metal covered in neoprene.) Afterward, she shrugged. "Doesn't seem like any military operation I've ever been involved with."

"Looks like it could be the biggest public security crisis we'll be facing ever since reconstruction after the Asian War."

The elevator car started to go down at rapid speed, quickly passing by floors 20-28 at a fast pace.

"This should be good."

Mark watched the floor indicator on the elevator car until it made its stop at the 5th basement floor. Except that when it opened up, the floor didn't appear to be on a parking lot or anything. Instead, it had the appearance of a typical corridor that you see in offices, except that it was built very wide for people or things to get around by very easily.

"Surprised to see this floor?"

A young man in his late 20s greeted the team when they arrived with a white dress shirt and red necktie alongside black pants and Oxford shoes. He also had short black hair and typical brown complexion for a native Southeast Asian person.

"And you are?" Mark asked him as he stepped out of elevator car and into the floor.

"Marco Torres from Technical Support." Marco shook hands with Mark. "Formerly with the NICA."

"Sure." The SAF operator returned the handshake. "And you're here..."

"I'll be showing you guys to the armory." Marco led the team down the corridor. "Your issued sidearms, unless you guys took advantage of the allowance to subsidize whatever money the task force can help you buy with, are already ready. Also includes the raid jackets you'll be using to blend in with the civilian populace alongside your holsters."

"Nice."

"I've also got some equipment also made available if anyone used the allowance to help subsidize the purchase thanks to the same allocation made for the task force budget."

Mark nodded.

"One more thing, you'll need the keycards issued to you to gain access to this floor since it's not officially listed in the building floor plans."

"Looks like Director Sanchez is a bit crafty for this, Marco."

I'll be using small arms taken from cyberpunk series like Ghost in the Shell and Appleseed, though I'll also put in some from the rebooted Syndicate and the new Deus Ex PS3 game, as well as prototypes and futuristic-looking weapons. Expect a list later on at the discussion thread.

"I'll take a look," Mendoza said. A good infiltrator could get through most missions without firing a shot, but Manuel knew to prepare for the situations where things don't go so smoothly.

Marco stopped at an automatic door that didn't have any markings to indicate if it's the armory or not.

"Allow me." Marco slid the keycard down at a wall-mounted keycard reader. The reader indicator had three red lights, which meant that it's in operational use. A few seconds later, the colors changed from red to green. A small display in green LED color had shown the following words.

When the automatic door slid open, Marco showed Mark and the others the interior of the armory. Aside from having a wide space with a few couches and a coffee table nearby with a widescreen HD TV, it also had a long bar-like table with the rear being accessible by lifting a certain part of the table in order to get through.

The armory is protected by chain link fences with a door that can only be accessed by the same keycard reader.

"This is your stuff so far." Marco showed them the folded black raid windbreaker jackets and the shoulder/SOB holsters neatly arranged next to the jackets. "We should wait for the armorer since he should be here in a few minutes by now. If you got questions, don't hesitate to ask."

Sanchez began to use his IP phone to contact the sub-basement floor at once after he got the call.

Let's see if I can reach him at once.

A Caucasian man in his 30s with short brown hair with a white shirt, jeans and rubber shoes stepped into the armory after the sliding door was open.

"Hey, Marco. These the guys the chief sent?"

"Yeah." Marco replied. "They're just getting ready to gear up."

Ramon nodded, as if to confirm what the man had said. He wasn't the greatest shot in the world but having a gun was always better than no gun.
