[up] Yup, the devs just made it to goof off in the office amongst themselfs.

An EA rep entered the picture and was like "release that"

Man if EA was gonna greenlight a joke for a full game, why the crap didn't they make Battlefield: Jurassic Horde?

They probably wanted to take people's minds of of how shitty BF 4 was.

This isn't exactly Titanfall 2 related, but it's interesting nonetheless:

An indie dev has made a Steam Greenlight page for an FPS called Ascension, and it looks to play almost exactly like Titanfall, except with even faster, more hectic parkour movement, a grappling hook, and smaller mechs (more akin to power armor, honestly). It's still quite a ways off from release - almost everything they've shown is clearly in the early prototyping stages, but it certainly does show more polish so far than most of the other FPS games proposed through Greenlight.

Check out their Greenlight page here.

I saw one of the dudes who was working on this over at /r/titanfall and they were talking about the project a bit. For better or worse they're definitely wearing their influences (Titanfall and Warframe) on their sleeve, not gonna lie.

Still, seems like a neat project if... admittedly kinda edging in knockoff territory but the dev(s?) seem like a neat bunch so who knows.

Two trailers have recently been released that detail the vision that Respawn has for Titanfall 2's single-player campaign.

The game has been getting some rave reviews so far, that's a good sign!

Gamespot: 9 out of 10

Game Informer: 9.5 out of 10

GamesRadar: 4.5 out of 5

The multiplayer is being praised for choosing to slow things down through bigger maps and more distant spawn points to encourage more tactical play styles, along with a far better choice in Titans to pilot. The one consistent complaint is that while the campaign is fun to play, it suffers from the typical lack of a conclusive ending and doesn't do anything revolutionary.

Not really surprising, but I'm glad that it's getting good reviews so far.

No plans for paid DLC map packs, or a season pass for that matter.

That's great news, since it means Respawn will likely treat future updates similarly as they did with the first Titanfall and avoid making new game modes DLC-only and thus spitting up the playerbase.

It does make we wonder how they'll fund development past the initial release though. That's usually the point of DLC; keeping the staff busy in between projects.

A part of me is really sweating over whether to get either this game, both due to the good reviews and the developer's intent on keeping the new maps free (hey, gotta reward good behavior somehow!), or going for Battlefield 1, which was my original choice out of this year's FPS deluge.

Dammit, if only I was rich, I'd just grab both! sad

The release window for this game makes me curious and worried. It seems like it's just going to get buried coming so close to Battlefield One and Call of Duty. That's a shame, because it looks like a solid, well-executed title.

I loved the mechanics of the first game, but their DLC system and relative lack of content killed the player base pretty quickly. They've stated their going to be different about it this time, but I'm worried that other factors (namely title saturation in the market) will have a similar effect.

Yea, the game is great but it IS going to be burried and is expected to fail now, like only moving half the units EA originaly thought it would move bad.

However we now have notes that no they weren't intending to doom it from the start like Robozombie thought, rather they legitimately thought it would sell well even being shoved into this time frame, and were trying to use it + battlefield 1 to take a sizable chunk of CODs market after the reaction its trailer got.

Less trying to doom titanfall, and less about making more money for them, and more about hurting Activision.

The dev team brought up concerns with this, but EA ingnored them and told them to go back to work, and so they did there best to ingnore them....

But seriously, what were those Execs smoking that they thought ANYTHING could scratch CODfish, like even if you dont like it it should be clear it is beyond reproach at this point.

I don't think Battlefield has ever sold anywhere near as well as any Call of Duty actually.

Thats why they were going to use both.

AND thats why it was extra stupid.

Especialy since contrary to perception COD gets beter sales with each installment, dipsite people "hating" it more, to the point where black ops III is to this day the best selling game to ever hit 8th generation consoles.

I do honestly wonder if the sales for the recent Co D might go down a bit due to the backlash.....albeit if that is what it took to get players to abandon Co D then that's unbelievable stupid.

I am sick of modern military shooters or boots on the grounds type of shooters like Co D 4 which the fanboys hold as some precious gem of the time. I really rather have Co D go sci-fi at this point due to the fact that it gives them more options.

This game looks good so far but yeah I am seeing EA being fucking stupid yet again. Ruining Battlefront wasn't enough for those guys huh?

Winning over COD fans is futile. I should know; I've got about three of them in my PS 4 friends list, and while all they do is bitch and whine about virtually any changes made to the gameplay, they are guaranteed to religiously buy every new copy on day one.

I'm surprised that EA's marketing department hasn't figured that out yet, let alone how releasing the title in between a ton of other major FPS juggernauts might ruin their chances of making a profit. Kinda makes me think somebody upstairs actually knew that, and deliberately wanted to sabotage Respawn's contract by making them release the title at the worst possible time and force them to renegotiate after sales tanked.

[up]You know that's what I was thinking too but honestly, I'm gonna go with Hanlon's Razor for this.

Remember, EA didn't want to make Battlefield 1 because, to quote some EA dude "kids don't know what World War 1 even is, so this is a risky venture." In retrospect, it seems kinda obviously that EA didn't expect Battlefield 1 to be so massively hyped by the public and possibly set up Titanfall 2 as a "safeguard". Or maybe they are evil and wanna kill Respawn, who knows ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Mind you, Battlefield 3 actually lost money when you take into account the massive marketing campaign that tried to drill "Above and beyond the call" into the heads of fanboys who would presumably repeat this ad-nausem to get people to buy Battlefield.

I really do think Respawn should be taking note of how Overwatch and TF 2 do it and make like a "Meet the Titans" series that focus on the Titan personalities, ESPECIALLY in light of BT becoming a fan favorite character. The current marketing is too focused on trying to sell Titanfall 2 to the "Co D audience" who aren't gonna buy it anyways and will just repeat the usual cycle of buying the new COD and then subsequently bitching about how COD is Ruined Forever only to be right in line for the next-next one.

Then again, if a EA marketing goon actually read this, they'd just repeat the Battlefield 3 campaign but with cheap shots at Overwatch instead of COD with some dumb cheap shot slogan like "You wont need need a WATCH for the (titan)fall" or some crap like that.

Edit: Man I forgot to mention that this game is dang ass good and that you should get both it if you liked the first one or if you're just looking for a cool FPS with an emphasis on skill based movement and giant fuggin robots.

Considering the negative reaction IW got, Titanfall 2 may do better than expected.

TF 2 is sadly probably going to be dead by Christmas, not through any fault of Respawn's. Not on Steam + competing with all the established series means the sales are just not doing great.

Incredible game, though. One of the best campaigns I've played in ages.
