Turkey to go to polls for snap election on June 24
Well that was unexpected, at least until yesterday.
A move by Erdogan's alliance to consolidate power, I assume. How's the opposition dealing with this?
Speaking of, it looks like Erdogan is running Turkey's economy into the ground.

Disgusted, but not surprisedNone of this is a surprise....Erdogan has managed to turn Turkey into an insecure countries for investments. And then there is the tourist sector....the numbers are shaky, but Erdogan has more or less halved the revenue of what used to be a thriving and growing sector.
I really hope that Muharrem İnce will be the Turkish President by next month.
Is that even a remote possibility?
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. It is. Though still unlikely, polling shows the presidential election going to a run-off and Erdoğan is very narrowly ahead there.
Interesting article here, summing up why it might not be an easy victory for Erdoğan.
After so many disappointments in political events in recent years (Trump, Erdogan's referendum, Maduro), I should know better than this, but I still remain cautiously optimistic. Economy is always an important factor and with confidence in it eroding, it may be a challenge for Erdogan.

Life is unfair...Plus, I doubt this election will be free of corruption or intimidation. And there's no way that the Sultan will allow unbiased observers in.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.Oh, please. Erdogan will manage to manipulate the numbers.
I guess the best we can hope for is that states like Turkey will serve as a warning for those states who are currently balancing at the edge regarding populism.
It will be interesting to see how many people in Germany/other countries will vote for Erdogan.
Even if Erdogan wins the presidental elections, he won't have a parliamental majority(something he had for the past 16 years).
Wouldn't bet on it....I am sure that he will find voters somehow.
There are still many useful idiots left who will vote for him. And if he does not get the majority he needs, he'll do the same thing he did a few years ago and call for reelections.
Assuming he just doesn't start ruling by decree, rule of law in Turkey is more or less on life support already.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. While the new constitutional amendments allow presidential decrees, the laws issued by the parliament override them.
Keep this way and Turkey will crash and burn. Despots, invariably, run their countries to the ground.
Meanwhile everyone will just grab the popcorn and have their I told you do look on their faces.
Inter arma enim silent legesSomething from Switzerland: Arrest warrant issued for Turkish diplomats, they were apparently planning to kidnap someone here and bring them to Turkey.

Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects. The Sultan appears to be on his way to winning the first round with a majority of the vote; evading a run off.

Cause the coffin of Turkey's democracy needed a few more nails.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.According to Spiegel, the Opposition calls bullshit on the numbers.
"You can reply to this Message!"Erdogan is going to be sworn in again. And another purge of firing government employees, including those from the military, is taking place.
The Sultan has named his Son-in-law as the new finance minister
Ah nepotism and total control of the economy, the herald of corruption and economic crisis.

That seems swell.

Andrew Brunson was arrested in Turkey over involvement in the coup, but he protested against it. He moved to Turkey in '93 to do missionary work there.
