November is the next Wait and See mark. It's where some folks thought we'd see a release, but by Toady's estimate we'll probably have a small pile of bugs to work out still.

So Ringsea did you finish then? If so someone let Condo know.

Lets talk about what we are going to do for the next fort.

Let's not go Evil Biome. I just started one in Masterwork on my own and . . . I lost the entire population before I could even make a door. tongue Reclaimed and locked up maybe four, so we'll hold out for now. Except I think it's down to one given I let three go out to grab food and . . . they're not likely to come back.

I'd go neutral or good, because those can still get Fun pretty fast. Centaurs are in good biomes, and they do NOT like Dwarves. I've had them come right out and attack my population before.

If you go into the Recommended version of the Masterwork world creator, you can pick a planet that is mainly good biomes. Same with evil. It's how I set up my current play, with the Evil one.

If you want to break the wood requirement, keep the updated workshops from Masterwork . . . The Stonecutter workshop can turn stone blocks into whatever goods a Mason's shop can't produce. Yes, that includes beds and barrels and bins. You can use the wood for fuel, or see about finding lignite, compact peat, or bituminous coal and only cutting one tree down for the startup smelt.

It's how I plan on burrowing underground and STAYING there.

Masterwork is kinda dodgy for me. Last time I ran world gen it crashed on me.

World gen is the most intensive part of the game. Someone else could handle that for you. I'd volunteer, but I'm not sure about the safety of my computer handing out files these days. When I get hard drives swapped out, maybe.

Otherwise we can get volunteers for that if we need to.

How do you select a good site from find embark sites in the first place?

They show up blue on the map. Possibly if you do a search for low evil areas it'll show up as well, but I'm not sure.

Also, I've done a few experiments with Masterwork, and it seems that turning on the simple pets option removes cats from the game, causing vermin to run amok in your fortress, so it might be best to leave that off.

Regarding the apparent seed shortage, I think that the dwarves carry the entire bin of seed bags around with them when they're retrieving a seed, and then the other dwarves don't know where it is and claim there's no seeds available. I'm not sure how to remedy that aside from removing seeds from the stockpiles, and that just causes a lot of clutter. Ringsea may also have convicted this second vampire for the murders of that Edzul Nalnish guy. I neglected to actually accuse him of anything before throwing him into the spike pit.

Oh, that's easy. You set up a seed stockpile and disallow barrels from the stockpile. Just set up a food stockpile and disable everything in it but seeds. They might get put in bags, of course, but it's easier to need more bags than it is to need barrels. They'll also store the seeds by ones in it, making it easier to only grab what they need.

I know, I've played with this stuff in my aboveground Viking Longhouse named Soundmoisten. I feel like our exports should be musical instruments and our imports should be horny groupies. . . evil grin

And Good alignment places are blue on the map. Real easy to notice on the Masterwork site finding screen. I wouldn't mess with the evil criteria on the finder itself. I think setting it to anything but N/A will seek out actual evil biomes. Just look up everything else you want for criteria, and you'll be set. Just avoid purple and look for blue.

And it's possible to turn off Aquifers entirely, on the settings tool, so unless we let Tuefel have his waterlogic fun, we can erase that from even being an issue.

I am all for getting rid of aquifers. I hate the damn things.

I am working on a few test settings with Masterwork for the Succession game. Namely what features to have on/off. I turned off all the non-vanilla workshop stuff. I am toying around with the rest.

Okay, then I'm confusing you with one of the other guys who used to hit the main DF thread all the time and bitch at the rest of us about hating Aquifers. evil grin But I coulda sworn it was you, back when you were mucking about with upgrading the serrated glass discs. Changed your mind or am I confused?

I'm going to do my usual asking - anybody have any requests for my go-round? I have some ideas, but I'd like this to be our game rather than Condorito's Rainbow Rumpus Partytown.

My only requests are thus: 1. What the Hell is Edmund up to? and 2. Set a seed stockpile next to the farms and disallow barrels. Let's get the place working again.

From what I've seen of Masterwork in the last week or so, a lot of the extras require more than a year of investment to see any reasonable return on them. For example, a dwarf spends an entire year doing nothing before they master a branch of magic, let alone the time they spend hauling the materials to perform the transformation and the research to unlock the first school of magic, which you then need to do more research in to unlock a second school unless you're happy with your magic users just having the ability to run away. I'm not currently sure if this is a good or bad thing in a succession game, though, since on one hand the added complexities would encourage more co-ordination, but on the other hand, there's just all the more opportunity for those projects to fail spectacularly or wither.

I would definitely recommend turning a few of the new races off though, since my fortress has been pretty much constantly under siege by babysnatchers and ambushes from five different civilisations.

Durza: Could be your lcoation. Switching off all the extras is definetly a must. It gets way too complicated for succession games and people not familiar with DF master work.

Needed to gen up a new world. No neighbouring civs other then a few sneaky goblonoids and an early invasion from Stranglers.

To top it off migration stopped at 20. I am hoping I didn't accidentally change the max pop to 20 instead of 250

It shouldn't be difficult to fix that if you did.

Just keep the extras off, we're only going Masterwork for the upgraded FPS. Extra features will only mess with that.

Nope. No way to fix it. Reclaim had the same issue. No migrants would show up after the population hit 20 dwarves. I zapped the world.

I keep playing and tweaking Master Work DF. I have come to one conclusion. It is still better to turn everything on and use the FPS improvement settings.

It makes for a more interesting game. As well increases the chance that "FUN" things will happen with the fort.

So it is looking like we may try a fully modded out MW DF. Switching off the various features produced...weird glitches.

What glitches?

I will admit the Harder options do not please me. I don't like fucking about with coaldust or warpstone killing my miners. I don't like seeing it take an entire season, or even year, for my crops to come in either. Though I also admit there are workarounds. Use bees for honey to make mead, use egg laying animals as primary food production, grab sheep as clothing producers in between harvests . . .

The mining can be overcome by avoiding warpstone where you find it and building a masons' guild to train miners to overcome coaldust. This is going to take serious coordination if we go full tilt MW, guys and gals. are we brave enough to do it?

We can turn of harder farming/metalworking without serious issues.

Issues like the migrant glitch, odd job behaviours or demands for objects from disabled workshops.

What about mining? You know the Harder Mining option makes Rock Wraiths spawn if you dig out gold or platinum ore, right? It's like an early game fortress killer.

Yeah the "harder" Options will be turned off as MW is hard enough for experienced players of DF and MW let alone anyone else.
