Anyway, does that mean Nintendo exists in the Dragon Ball world?

Nintendo is unclear, since it shows the players driving the carts instead of the characters, but shells were involved. It was pretty clearly Mario Kart.

Threatening to blow oneself's brains over criticism, even if in jest (and to know what a man truly thinks, listen to what he's joking about) strikes me as ruder and less mature than the criticism itself.

Edit: I wasn't there when you guys agreed to drop it, so I don't consider myself tied to such agreement, but I'll also let it go from here on if you do.

Either way, I would want to stand for the record I'm not a fan of the fanfic myself, which is why I won't say much on it.

Yeah, I've kinda picked up that no one in this thread likes it. Except for unnoun.

Make no mistake, it's not like I hate it either, and I'm well aware I am normally a worse writer myself.

The only thing I'm going to say on the matter is that, once again, this is not For Want Of A Nail fic, this is a rewrite. If this was just a FWN, absolutely nothing important would change until the 23rd Budoukai where Goku would marry Krillin. Then nothing important would change until maybe the Boo Saga since Goten probably wouldn't be around. This, admittedly, would be a pretty major change but would absolutely result in everyone dying (assuming Goku can't kill Majin Boo before running out of time) so there'd be no point in writing it.

Of course, the only person who's complaining about that is also the person who won't accept it so whatever.

When I've read it, I haven't really disliked it.

It's just that I'm some what picky and particular about what fan fiction I read. Sometimes, I put time into stuff that really isn't worth it, while not bothering with stuff I should be trying.

In the case of Dragonball, I just don't think it lends itself well to the usual alternate scenarios due to how conditional everything is. I feel like you can't really do a good alt universe as long as Goku is there (at least for me) but if you get rid of him, then eventually Raditz, Frieza or Buu comes along and kills everyone.

It's one of the reason I've been considering a story with a particularly big nail: one of the beings killed by Buu in his rampage is an ancestor of Frieza (maybe Chilled, just because) but since, like his successors, Chilled is the strongest mortal in existence, this alerts the Kais to his actions, and they realize he's flat out dangerous so they attack him as a group and defeat him and Bibidi as opposed to just letting him get sealed up. With Frieza's line gone, the Saiyans never become part of the Planet Trade, and thus are stuck on Planet Plant, which means no Goku being sent to earth, no Raditz to come after him, no Vegeta to come for the Dragonballs, and of course, no Frieza or Buu. It also means no technically, but that's not completely out of the question.

Anyway, it's interesting to think about how much the story changes with that.

The other way DBZ fanfics work is slice of life type stuff that has nothing to do with power or fighting.

I still think Goten might have been conceived before the fight with 19 and 20 in the manga, and in a world where Goku's female would be born in the Time Chamber.

Rob, the Kais knew about Buu. Always. They just didn't approach him because they would just die.

They could not beat Buu. Even if they went as a group, they would've just gotten slaughtered. They need to wait for Bibidi to seal Buu and attack then. You can fix this by simply having them assassinate Bibidi and stash Buu's egg in a block of Katchin in the center of the Supreme Planet.

Really? I was under the impression he caught them with their pants down. Like yeah, he was stronger than all of them (except maybe South Kai, who got absorbed because he managed to put up a fight), but if they'd known he was out there and what he could do, they'd have teamed up against him.

Then again, your idea about them just jumping Bibidi works just as well. I suppose I can extend it to Bibidi sealing Buu after the latter kills Chilled.

No, the only one who had a chance in hell was South Supreme Kai, and even so, he outright lost. If Buu hadn't absorbed him, he would've just been killed instead. The first challenge Majin Buu ever had was Goku.

I don't read the fanfic because of a lack of time, but I do see that it's a rewrite instead of a For Want Of A Nail.

A genderswap fic. It's just bullshit that it's on the recs page for being a genderswap from the start of Dragon Ball when it hasn't updated since 2013 and it's in the fucking Pilaf Saga, meanwhile look where we are.

Yeah but length's not the important thing, is it actually decent?

And keep in mind, I am not talking about creative choices here. For all that I dislike your creative choices, I still think it's competently put together. What I'm talking about is whether it's written poorly or not. You know, plot holes and stuff.

Er, my excuse is that I'm generally not here. What's your fic about? Tales from the Monkey Queen, I checked the list I made in the OP so I added it at some point, it's the one with the genderswapped Goku. I think I started the first chapter but I'm guilty of not really finishing fanfics.

Looking at it right now: I don't know what the reception's been like thus far, though I suspect the tagline of no Majin Krillins or Super Saiyan Raditzes might be throwing people off. I mean, it would do that to me. I read Dragonball fanfiction for Majin Krillin and nothing else. Joking.

I'm skimming the first few paragraphs - I like how you merged those two wishes Bulma had at the start of Dragonball, one version had her want a mountain of strawberries and the other was the perfect boyfriend one. Neat.

So, if Goku is a girl how is this going to go down when Goku wants to, hrh-hrm, check?

Going through the chapter - I guess Girl-ku is more readily accepting the fact that Bulma's a girl. Also, your writing is reminding me of just how terrible Bulma really is as a person. At least she started to feel bad when Goku asked if the balls could bring her Grandpa back. I wonder why Goku never thought of that in canon.

So, I like it so far. The action seems a little dodgy in places but I imagine that's because telling the time-old first encounter between these two would be pretty boring, you kind of want/have to skip along.
