1950

The News Bill, as it is now called, has brought in a new source of information for Americans everywhere. Television, as an industry, starts to grow more and more, although people in Hollywood still believe it just won't last. This leads to television being used as a way to broadcast not only news and propaganda, but also educational and entertaining new shows that bring a smile to everyone everywhere.

The Truman Rights Act, while initially rejected by some cities in the South, is now allowing people who were once deprived of their rights a chance to live the American Dream, or at least some part of it. While a Bill can't change how people think, it does change how the government educates these people. Governors, mayors and congressmen are replaced by more open-minded people, who help ease America into a more unified future. Who knows, maybe these open minds will help in the future?

President Truman has also started to record propaganda, declaring that the "world is now looking at America for guidance". In his recordings, Truman calls for the help of the American people. "I may be the President, but without you and your family, I cannot do a thing." In his monthly broadcasts, President Truman encourages the young and the old to grab a book, to learn, and to study, as the US must become the "strongest, smartest nation in the entire world."

However, President Truman has also begun criticizing the moves of the Soviet Union. "Their intentions are nowhere as peaceful or as progressive as ours," he said on one of his broadcasts. "They control multiple countries with a despicable iron hand, ignoring their cultures and their people, all in the name of communism. They believe that peace can only be achieved when all countries agree with them? Why, fellow Americans, have we not learned that the only way to peace is by learning to live with those who are different from you? That is why I say that we will protect the world from the red claws of the Soviets, for that is the role of this new, big, beautiful America!"

  • From: The United States of America
  • To: Japan

To the esteemed Ishinomori Go,

Wonderful! The group of engineers, whom we call the Lucky 17, are now on their way to Japan. They will help you in any kind of research or construction your country is going through. I have also learned that your government has developed a highly successful television show! Why, almost every house in America has a TV by now. Aren't you interested in exporting this TV show to foreign lands?

Signed, Harry A. Truman.

  • From: The United States of America
  • To: The Empire of Neo-Yamato

Empress,

The United States would be happy to recognize and aid a new state. However, we will only make our recognition official once we receive confirmation and physical proof that the people who have been living in your land before your arrival are receiving the dignity and respect that they deserve. We will send an emissary to your country, and if he comes back with good news, the US will be one hundred percent ready to recognize your country as a sovereign state.

Signed, Harry A. Truman.

United States Requests - Turn 2:

  • Space Program - 1 Request: The United States will start analysis of what resources and advancements will be necessary in order to send Americans to outer space and beyond.
  • Infrastructure Reform - 2 Requests: President Harry A. Truman signs his latest bill, the Bill for Better Education. With this bill, the government will define new standards that all schools, be they elementary, middle, high schools must follow. These standards are very high, especially when compared to the previous standards, and with them, the United States hopes to elevate their education to a new level, so they may become the world standard. An amendment to this Bill allows the government to invest a certain amount of money in each state so all schools in the country will reach the new standards by 1955.

From a rat-tunnel dug somewhere deep under the Vietnamese jungle, Nguyễn Thị Huệ simply watched what was unfolding on the world stage around her.

For the moment at least, it did not trouble her too much; she had her own problems after all. Starting with driving out the decadent French colonialists and actually managing to free her people.

North Vietnamese Requests - Turn 2
  • Military Reform: 2 Requests - At the moment, building up the Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam to the point where they can take on the French is a major concern.
  • Infrastructure Reform: 1 Request - As is sorting out the territory they have already taken.

Spain, late 1949

Ah a new day for God's great nation of Spain...

From: Generalissimo Fuentes, of the state of Spain

To: Empress Kaede, of the Empire of Neo-Yamato

The State of Spain is glad to welcome a new sovereignty into existence and would gladly recognize it. We hope that a peaceful and cooperative existence can be achieved between our nations. We would be thankful if your Empire would concede some military aid for our own interests of colonial consolidation in the African continent.

Requests

  • Infrastructure Reform(2): A large-scale propaganda campaign will be issued with the objective of bolstering nationalism and make the people support the interests of the great state of Spain.

  • Military Reform(2): Allow troops to be moved on the colonies to secure the state's control over them.

  • Nuclear Program(2): A great weapon and such power must be in the hands of the generalissimo for the protection of his ideals and his people, as such, a nuclear program is being developed.

To say that the People's Republic is merely recovering might be an understatement. Through the strength and cooperation of the Chinese people and the strong, yet grounded and practical, government, the People's Republic are creating a platform on which their ascension into the modern world is assured. The improvements to be made to the national standard of living are still the highest priority; the human cost of rapid industrialisation and militarisation may yet still be too high.

Otherwise, government higher-ups may notice a moderate improvement in Supreme Executive Chung's demeanor. President Kim Sang-Ji's visit went off without a hitch; she was greeted to the new and improved Beijing. Inbetween that and the fact that he didn't have to work as hard as he once did (due to the collectivisation of production and agriculture), hopefully he spend more time in the future on meaningful and efficient regulations.

The battle for prosperity presses on.

—-

Infrastructure Reform: The housing situation remains remnant of the bourgeoisie system of before; the living standards wildly differ from region to region in spite of the abolitioin of capitalist hierarchy. Until; an economically viable longterm solution can be found, begin the manufacturing of hi-rise apartment complexes (otherwise known as 'commieblocks'), though only for the use of urban workers. These are to built from concrete, and sport indoor pluming, electricity, and heating. In every 'block' is to be a single parlor, kitchen, bathroom, and two small bedrooms.

Economic Reform: Offer 15% raise of the construction worker's wages for the next 20 years, pending on the user reviews of the apartment complexes.

Requested rolls:

  • The USSR:
    • Economic Reform: 58- Success. Money starts flowing into the USSR's coffers, but at a very slow pace, as some countries do not respond well to the new, more loose trade restrictions
    • Military Reform: 57, 68- Success. The USSR starts developing more advanced techniques as their military prowess starts to grow.
    • Infraestructure Reform: 58, 63- Success. A wave of reconstruction spreads through the USSR, although the poorer corners of the country don't get much attention.
    • Space Programme: 89- Great Success. The plans for the Soviet Space Programme are being developed by the greatest scientists and engineers the USSR has ever seen.

  • The USA:
    • Infrastructure Reform: 63, 89- Great Success. The quality of education the in the US grows as the government's investments pay off, with schools all over the country improving and growing. Better education leads to smarter Americans. People who never had high school or college education now get a second chance.
    • Space Programme: 77- Success. Rocket scientists who worked on the war are now developing the early parts of the US Space Programme, with more scientists coming from the improved colleges.

  • North Vietnam:
    • Military Reform: 80, 100* - Exalted Success. The French are nothing compared to the much more powerful Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam.
    • Infrastructure Reform: 60- Success. With this research, the Quân Đội Nhân Dân Việt Nam discover they have territories that were previously thought to be under French control.

  • Spain:
    • Infrastructure Reform: 12, 81- Mild Success. Propaganda is spread from coast to coast, however, it is spread unevenly and in an unorganized manner.
    • Military Reform: 67, 79- Great Success. Colonies are easily moved to the colonies, who remain safely under Spain's control.
    • Nuclear Program: 24, 19- Failure. Unfortunately, Spain currently lacks the manpower necessary to research the development of such a powerful weapon. The first attempts at a Nuclear Program fail.

  • China:
    • Infrastructure Reform: 86, 94- Marvelous Success. Urban workers welcome the arrival of the commieblocks with city-wide celebrations as the latest creation of President Kim Sang-Ji towers above many cities, providing housing for the workers.
    • Economic Reform: 73- Success. With the commieblocks receiving rave reviews, the raise offer is widely accepted by most workers.

The people of North Korea were proving that with a strong will nothing was impossible. Despite early setbacks schools had been constructed all across the Republic. Children were being given the choice to enter vocational training, bolstering the future workforce. Assisted by newly arrived Soviet surplus hardware the Korean People's Armed Forces stood on better footing to defend the Republic from foreign powers. Most impressively the DPRK was successfully developing space technology, having proceeded nicely on a rocket capable of reaching space.

Meanwhile her visit to Beijing was pleasant enough and helped solidify relations with China. What China had already accomplished in the wake of a civil war was nothing short of astounding. It should be, she told her cabinet, "an example of what we can do with the strength of the people". As she prepared to enact new policies once more she took the time to send out correspondence.

To: Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

From: Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Comrades, you have the deepest thanks of the Korean people for the assistance which you have given us. While not the cutting edge of Soviet technology it will assist us in the defense of the DPRK. Rest assured that your advisers are being put to full use in forming the People's military into a modern fighting force.

We have been led to believe that the USSR has initiated a space program of its own recently. It would be a blow to our foes if a joint, socialist effort were to lead the way in this field. If you are willing, the DPRK proposes a concentrated, collaborative effort to defeat the capitalist west into space.

Signed, Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

To: Hang Chung, Supreme Executive of the People's Republic of China

From: Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

I wish to thank you for the wonderful hospitality shown to myself upon visiting Beijing. Such kindness and friendship only serves to strengthen the bonds between our two nations. The DPRK wishes to return the favor by inviting you to visit P'yongyang at your earliest convenience.

Sincerely, Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

To: Harry A. Truman, President of the United States of America

From: Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Greetings, Mr. President,

Allow me to congratulate the efforts made by your administration towards promoting equality within your nation. While we are of different ideologies, it is always prudent to avoid confrontational tones. While it may not be spoken in public, there are those in our government who appreciate the contributions made by the United States in defeating Imperial Japan. That this resulted in a division of Korea is an unfortunate fact we must all deal with.

This may sound strange but the Democratic People's Republic of Korea would be interested in establishing some form of diplomatic relations. If not immediately then in the near future. All we ask is for full recognition of the Democratic People's Republic by your government. Is this an amenable proposal?

Signed, Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Requests:

Military Reform (1) - Following the wage bill's passing, the military must also be made a more equal environment. One's gender must not prevent one's talents from being utilized by the military. On a voluntary basis women are now to be allowed into all combat arms. As this is a major change in policy it will be implemented slowly.

Space Program (1) - On the heels of a successful beginning the DPRK will continue to fund progress on its space program. We must not fall behind the other nations!

Economic Reform (1) - With a national minimum wage in place, the government will begin to invest in industry with a special emphasis on producing consumer goods. These will be issued to the people by quota so as not to promote excess.

And with the admittedly homely looking apartment complexes come a heightened standard of living for most, and a equal standard of living for all involved. Perhaps in the future, money can be saved by renovating of these complexes rather replacing them entirely. It's clear that the Supreme Executive can trust his nations builders to that extent, at least.

As the industrial sector grows strong, so must the resources at it's disposal expand. It will take just a bit longer to ensure that the People's Republic can push advances on it's public sector with a strong foundation.

Issue To: Emperor Go, sovereign Monarch of Neo-Yamato

Delivered From: Supreme Executive Chung of the People's Republic of China

I will admit it is with some surprise that I review current events. I will do my best to be clear in light of that; The People's Republic of China will respect the national sovereignty of Neo-Yamato. However, I do hope you understand and tolerate a degree of caution on hour behalf. Neither I, or my executives, or any person of the People's Republic can turn a blind eye to our citizen's abroad; I must formally demand that citizens of at least one-eight Chinese descent be given over to the Mainland. It is with earnest hope in my heart that our future exchanges have a more peaceful context.

Signed,

Hang Chung, Supreme Executive of the People's Republic of China.

Infrastructure Reform: Research into technological advancement will go slow without a larger pool of skilled labor at the nation's disposal. It's time to build schools. These are to be located in-between urban and rural areas, as to give the demographics a greater degree of familiarity and not bar either from access to education. For the moment the primary goals of these schools will be to promote literacy (with each region free to accommodate for their ethnic dialects) and civic knowledge of inter-union and intra-union interactions, as well as introduce young people to biological, chemical, and perhaps most importantly, engineering sciences. Rather than grading based off of standardized testing, the completion of small group-projects will assess each student's progress. The problems/challenges presented will require the integration of multiple academic disciplines an necessitate teamwork to complete. Rural children will be allowed five months to assist their parents on the farms.

Economic: Offer a five year increase in wages to manufactories that don't apply child (under 16) labor

Turns 2 and 3

  • From: The United Kingdom
  • To: The USSR

Nicolai,

You are a smart man. You know that the world is not black and white. As the leader of the United Kingdom, I do not choose sides. While, yes, my economical tendencies do lead to me being thrown on the same bad as the United States, I do not agree on most of their choices.

I am aligned with the British people, and I am both an ally of the United States and of your country.

And since you are smart, Nikolai, you should know that there are ways to develop your economical model without harboring some sort of unnecessary eternal hate for the opposing side. In fact, I think it'd be much more easier for the world if you two found a way to work together.

Signed,

Charlie.

The United Kingdom's Requests for Turns 2 and 3:

  • Economic Reform: [1] Invest and focus on industries in order to establish the UK as a key player in world economics.
  • Economic Reform: [1] Invest and focus on agriculture in order to feed the growing population of the UK and to establish the UK as a key exporter of food.
  • Infrastructure Reform: [2] Invest in media and entertrainment in order to spread the TV and the radio all across the UK, as a way of not only reaching the population but also entertraining them. Ammendment to this bill directs most of the investment towards the BBC, especially the Original Content department.
  • Infrastructure Reform: [2] Complete reworking of Britain's educational system, with a bigger focus on college. Give funds to public schools so they may not only better educate more children, but also install a sense of nationalism in them. Invest in colleges so they can produce technicians that will work on Britain's future non-military technological endeavors.

Turn 3
It was, Kaede decided, entirely too much bother to be running an empire. Maybe it was just how new it was, and the need for social change? Quite possibly, an absolute monarchy had been a poor idea. No matter; elected officials could decide the basic, daily necessities, and she would keep focusing on diplomacy and overall policy.

Such as the military: the surprise attack had all but obliterated the existing forces, but now she was having to take measures to prevent their joining again. Very well—she would turn to the past, and create a new samurai caste. Obliged to complete basic training, but a full military career was highly optional. And, until such time as the risk was minimal, consisting only of ethnic Japanese.

The slightly more pleasant trouble was deciding on the location of the Imperial Capital. In the end, she just chose a location south-east of the existing capital, by the ocean.

To: Supreme Executive Chung
From: Empress Kaede
Your terms are unacceptable. 1/8 Chinese descent is insufficient for return to China. Additionally, many do not even have records of their arrival—how am I to ascertain who would qualify?

Return of those to have illegally left your country is acceptable, however.

To: Generalissimo Fuentes
From: Empress Kaede
At this time, military aid for the Spanish is unavailable, and even in the future will not be granted for work beyond your own borders. We are not mercenaries.

Repeated: A request for international recognition, not sent, this time, on New Year's Eve.

Troop Movements: With most of the country pacified, and the rest facing a poorly-equipped guerilla war in one of the least pleasant wildernesses on Earth, roughly half of Neo-Yamato's troops are sent to Italy to help with the Mafia.

Requests:
Infrastructure Reform x2: The new capital needs to be constructed, as does the Imperial Palace! Built on traditional lines, of wood and paper, with modern amenities discretely hidden beneath the floor. Similar blueprints are to be used for all the buildings.
Mundane Technology x1: This place is ridiculously sunny, maybe we should think to harness this power? Solar Power research.

Spain, 1950, turn 3

He should be glad, his people claimed for him and his nation, and the colonial control division was running smoothly... yet he was unsatisfied, and feeling a tad sour. The atom was proving to be wilder beast to tame than what he expected... it doesn't matter, there will be other times... Perhaps to improve our great army in the meanwhile... yes and there was people he could turn to. Another thing was also to be dealt with... those dreams... soldiers from the heavens coming down from flying metallic castles and turning their foes to dust with a blessed blinding light... and on the throne of that castle was seated no-one other than him...

From: Generalissimo Fuentes, of Spain

To: President Truman, of the United States

Greetings

In the interest of the cooperation and peace between our nations we would like extend a cordial salute and ask for your aid. Our army's resources are outdated and we would be thankful if you could provide us with newer ones. This is of course to protect ourselves from those that consider us aberrant and decadent, who don't see the virtues and delights that our ideals bring to us, who would rather see us drop off the face of this God-graced earth. If it acceptable we will send officers and emissaries to carry on with the negotiations.

Spain's Requests

  • Military Reform(2): Conditioned with USA's consent of course. Political emissaries and military officers to be sent to America with the intent of buying new weaponry and equipment for the troops.

The USSR — Turn 3, 1951

Premier Ivashko was a very pleased man. The country was recovering. Unsteadily perhaps, but the signs of strength were there. From the newly confident economy to the revolutionary progress being made in the space programme, the USSR was displaying its' credentials as a true superpower. He had made sure to keep an eye on foreign events, and the news of Australia's subversion was at once pleasing and alarming.

The message was clear: though the Soviet Union had much to be proud of, they must also be ever vigilant.

From: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

To: Neo-Yamato

Greetings,

I am pleased that you have removed the corrupt Imperialist influence from Australia, and therefore I will officially recognise your sovereignty if you accept a non-aggression treaty between your country and the Soviet Union and its' allies. Be aware, however, that any aggressive stance taken against the USSR will be swiftly punished regardless of your acceptance of the treaty. Our security cannot be compromised, and we will take any and all steps required to ensure it.

We await your response and trust that you will make the right decision.

Signed,

Premier Nicolai Ivashko

From: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

To: Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Fellow Socialists,

The reports we have been receiving from our advisors have been encouraging, and we are pleased to hear of your rapid progress in your endeavours. To strengthen the bonds between our countries, I will authorise deeper co-operation between our space programmes. The world will be bathed in the light of our progress in short order. I am supremely confident that further co-operation will lead to greater glories!

Sincerely,

Premier Nicolai Ivashko

From: The Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

To: The United Kingdom

Prime Minister,

I understand your concerns fully. You must not feel that you have something to fear from the Soviet Union. We are both working toward the same goal - prosperity and justice for all. However, you must recognise that my struggle is not merely of an economic nature: we must halt the debilitating influence of the bourgeois at all levels of society.

The people can never be truly free so long as their "betters" continue to oppress them. For someone as concerned with what is right as yourself, I am sure you can acknowledge that your system only breeds more inequality. We, the Soviets, only wish to remove the millstone of the bourgeois.

Until such time as the Americans abandon their self-destructive social and economic system, I am afraid that we cannot rest easy.

From,

Premier Nicolai Ivashko

With the revitalized education system in place, a better future was secured for China's youth. Even the country's industries were leaving children to strengthen their minds instead of their backs. Coupled with the future skilled labor may be a finer collectivist ethic, where the idea of self-interest may grow to include the health of one's neighbor. Only time would tell. There are only a few more things to be done to improve the economy before there's a safe base on which to militarize. Executive Chung would devote more than a decade if he could, but the very existence of Neo-Yamato stressed a quicker mind for securing China's borders.

Japan, Heisei 3

  • The divine word of Ishinomori Go, Emperor of Japan
  • For care of: President Harry A. Truman of the United States of America
Your aid was much appreciated, o honourable President, and we shall strive to repay you at some point in the future. As for your interest in our "Subarashi Sentai Ikuranger" program... We would be willing to export it, but it might be a little too Japanese for the tastes of your people. Perhaps a more international retooling is required, in order to better suit the multicultural nature of your nation?

  • The divine word of Ishinomori Go, Emperor of Japan
  • For care of: Yukimura Kaede, Empress of Neo-Yamato
It is the father's duty to nurture his son, and thus we shall comply with your request. We shall not only recognize the empire of Neo-Yamato, but we shall provide you with the aid you require... On the condition that you allow the motherland to utilise some of the vast stretches of uninhabited wilderness that makes up much of Neo-Yamato as sites for testing and researching Japan's ultimate creation. With your cooperation, a mighty castle of iron shall soon arise and smash all who would dare threaten us.

Requests for Japan:
  • Economic Reform (1): The success of the tokusatsu series "Subarashi Sentai Ikuranger" must be capitalized upon, and America's interest in it is perfect for this. However, it needs a bit of retooling first... We shall reshoot scenes to feature a more multicultural cast rather than an all-Japanese one, and rename it "The Powerful Rangers in: Battle Fever!". And I suppose we shall throw in scenes of giant robot battles. Not only will it make the show more spectacular, but it will hopefully convince the rest of the world that such a construct is a fanciful creation that could never exist in real life.
  • Economic Reform (1): We must open trade routes with the newly formed Empire of Neo-Yamato, in order to procure an alliance with them. The former head of the Yakuza must be made certain that the motherland shall support her ventures, as long as she turns a blind eye to our experiments.
  • Sci-Fi Technology (1): With the preliminary research taken care of, we must officially begin our secret operation to construct a giant combat robot. Thus, the emperor shall place his seal of approval upon Project Gunboy, and a team of our best scientists shall work to design a prototype. It may take years, even decades to get the desired results, but one day Japan shall be protected by a walking castle of iron.

The basis upon which the DPRK would function in the future was now in place. A new system of schools, a new economy that held equal opportunity for all Koreans and which produced goods for the people's use, and a space program that was proceeding on schedule. Thanks to the Soviet Union, the military was equipped and a united socialist front was presented to space. Yet clouds were gathering in Asia with the sudden emergence of a new power, Neo-Yamato. President Kim Sang-Ji still hoped for peaceful relations of course. For now she had to tend to her own nation.

To: Nikolai Ivashko, Premier of the Union of Soviet Socialist Republics

From: Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

You have our greatest thanks for what shall certainly be a fruitful scientific partnership. Our scientists are honored to be working alongside the best minds in the Soviet Union. To dream that one day the heroes of International Socialism will be in the heavens is quite pleasing. Onward to a brighter tomorrow!

The DPRK has also taken inspiration from the USSR in allowing free opportunity in the workforce and armed forces for all citizens. For this wonderful inspiration I personally extend thanks. Though the Soviet Union may have been the first to carry the torch of unity, brotherhood and equality, she will be joined by nations the world over. Rest assure that the DPRK will stand behind the USSR in even the most troubled times. We can only hope that the USSR will return this favor.

As a further sign of unity, would you be amenable to a full system of student exchange beginning at the university level? This would allow our young people to experience other cultures and promote internationalism within the family of socialist nations.

Signed, Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

To: Supreme Executive Chung, People's Republic of China

From: President Kim Sang-Ji, Democratic People's Republic of Korea

It is heartening to see both our nations emerging from the receding smoke of war so strongly. China's efforts at modernization and tending to the people's well being is highly regarded in the DPRK. As you have recently revitalized the educational system, would you be willing to begin an exchange student program with us? I believe it an excellent opportunity to strengthen bonds between our nations.

International politics as they are now, we feel fortunate to have China's support against foreign threats. One can always hope for the best, but troubles sometimes arise despite that person or nation's best efforts. We stand firmly alongside you, our Chinese friends, just as you stand for us.

Best Regards, Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea

Issued To: Lady Kim Sang-Ji, President of the Democratic People's Republic of North Korea

Delivered From: Hang Chung, Supreme Executive of the People's Republic of China

It would be a high honor to initiate an exchange program inbetween our youth, Lady Sang-Ji. It is only right that the sons and daughters of our Republics should know sibling-hood; consider the necessary transactions in the works. I only make one small request, however. After they are done with their term, I hope that we can interview the student's personally, as to access whatever grievance they might have with our curriculum. Of course, in the spirit of fairness, I would hope you might do the same. In my life, I have found that a healthy dose of criticism does well for people of our stature; as such I will apologize before hand if my proposal has offended your sensibilities.

Might we both show the world that, 'when push comes to shove' (as the westerners might say), it will be the strength of cooperation that will win the day.

with good tidings, Executive Hang Chung

Issued To: Nicolai Ivashko, Premier of the Union of Socialist Soviet Republics

Issued From: Hang Chung, Supreme Executive of the People's Republic of China

I am glad to inform you that the People's Republic of China has gone beyond the mere defeat of the Bourgeoisie influence. In our recovery and improvement of the national living standard, we've invalidated them. In but a few generations, we hope to do the same for the entire world; insomuch as we'll display to the citizens of the west that their welfare is not irrevocably tied to the excess and indulgence of private enterprise.

Though seeing that I live in the here and now, as all people must, my thoughts are heavy with caution. I had previously hoped to stall rapid industrialization and military advance as to mitigate their human cost, but it would seem the resurgence of a renewed Imperial Japan would necessitate just that. To provide a platform on which to make these improvements, I humbly request Russia's aid. While we may bost a supply of firearms superior to most in the world, we still lack in the department of military vehicles. Hence, we merely request blue-prints of standard Soviet tanks, military aircraft and battleships. If that is yet too much to ask, a model of Soviet military manufactories would suffice.

The People's Republic of China humbly await your response.

Acceptable. We have no desire for armed conflict with yourself, or, indeed, any of your allies. Perhaps an external trade agreement could be negotiated?

From: Empress Kaede of Neo-Yamato
Your terms are fully acceptable, and I look forward to a prosperous relationship.

England, still 1950

  • From: The United Kingdom
  • To: The USSR

Nikolai,

Surely, you must have read the news? The Americans are doing excellent work in the inequality front. I have recently chatted with President Truman, and his plans are, might I say, formidable. Total change, which is exactly what the country needed. Of course, the opposing party might disagree, but the results are coming in. You must have heard of the Truman Rights Act, which is wiping away the dirty remnants of the American Civil War?

As an ally to my people, I feel like what you truly need is to sit down and talk with the American President. Truman needs to do the same. It is a much better decision than sitting behind your desks with your fingers on the red buttons, like children at a playground.

What do you think about it? An old fashioned talk. I do have some announcements I'd love to make at this meeting. Announcements that I know you would love to hear.

Signed, Charlie

  • From: The United Kingdom
  • To: The USA

Truman,

I think it's time you and the Soviet leader, Nikolai, sat down for a chat. It is clear that both of you are marching towards a mad, mad path. These passive-aggresive acts must end, if we truly wish for the world to continue in one piece.

Signed, Charlie.

  • From: The United Kingdom
  • To: Empress Kaede of Neo-Yamato

Honorable Empress,

The United Kingdom, as an ally to all nations, would like to fully offer our official recognition of Neo-Yamato as a sovereign state. We would also like to offer a non-agressive treaty between your country and the United Kingdom. Instead of affirming our alliance through messages the public will never hear, we would like to send an emmissary to sign the non-agressive pact and to open the doors for a future full of economical and political opportunities.

Signed,

Prime Minister Charlie

  • From: The United Kingdom
  • To: The People's Republic of China

CONFIDENTIAL

Supreme Executive Chung,

I come to you with good news. As of next year, the United Kingdom will be officially pulling out of any colonies that were under our control and offering them independence and recognition as a new sovereign state. As you know, one of our biggest colonies, India, is one of your neighbors. The United Kingdom would like to ask you for your aid in order to help these new countries to develop their economies and politics.

I should say we are hoping for all of them to adopt Democracy, but that is only our hope: the decision of what their political system will be is, of course, up to them.

What do you say?

Signed, Prime Minister Charlie

USA, Turn 3

  • From: President Harry A. Truman
  • To: Empress Kaede

Empress,

Like I said before in my previous message, the government of the United States is ready to offer our full recognition of Neo-Yamato as a sovereign state (with our promise to aid your country in case you need such aid) if you will receive one of our emissaries. He will simply watch the progress you have brought to the land and confirm that the people of Australia are being treated with the dignity they deserve.

Are we in agreement?

From the Desk of the President of the United States, Harry A. Truman

  • From: The United States of America
  • To: Japan

Emperor,

Please, call me Harry. Now, I would like to know if there is any way I could not only bring your adapted program to the United States, but also a crew who'd be ready to produce new episodes constantly. I predict a long living franchise, Emperor, and with America's bustling TV industry, it is quite possible your program can become a trend-setter.

From the Desk of the President of the United States, Harry A. Truman

  • From: The United States of America
  • To: The United Kingdom

Charlie,

You know I'm always open to diplomatic talks. If those Soviets can drop their weapons and talk, I'll be ready to do so. However, I request that these talks take place in my land, so I can live broadcast it to my people and so I don't get stabbed in the back by one of the Soviet's spies. How does that sound?

From the Desk of the President of the United States, Harry A. Truman

  • From: Harry A. Truman, President of the United States
  • To: Kim Sang-Ji, President of the DPRK

Kim,

The USA will only agree to recognising your country if you agree to a non-agression pact between the DPRK, the USA, and its allies. Those are our only conditions.

From the Desk of the President of the United States, Harry A. Truman

  • From: The United States of America
  • To: Daniel Greene

Daniel,

We are in the middle of a huge change in our country's history. I have just sent many bills to the Congress that will change our society and bring better lives to these poor people. I would like you to dedicate many hours of your empire's broadcasts to these bills. I want everyone in every street to know every single detail of them. It is extremely important that the American people know and remember this year for the rest of their lives.

From the Desk of the President of the United States, Harry A. Truman

  • From: The United States of America
  • To: Spain

Generalissimo,

You must understand that while we are ready to help you in the upcoming fight, our country is not interested in selling weapons. Right now, the USA are going through a massive period of change, and as such we would be interested in sending troops to Spain, but not guns. Are we in agreement?

From the Desk of the President of the United States, Harry A. Truman

United States' request for Turn 3:

  • Major Economic Reform [1]: The New Economy Bill. This bill will cut spending in various sections of the US that do not need that much money, such as the Defense Department. This is in order to avoid creating a massive debt in our future. The bill will then raise and lower taxes for different groups based on their monthly and yearly income, with the ultra-rich getting a slight raise and the ultra poor new, lower tax rates. The money taken from these spending cuts are then invested in areas such as Business, Arts and Entertainment, Education, Media, Government and Family, in order to build what Truman considers "The New Bases of America". This Bill also strenghtens the Glass-Steagall Act, and it's objective is not to make the rich poor, but to make the poor richer and lower the differences between the two classes.
  • Space Program [2]: The US continues development of its Space Program. The new objective is not only to get a man in Space, but also in the Moon. Development of this Program continues to be top secret.

Your terms are acceptable, but I would like to request the public signing take place once construction of the Imperial Palace has ceased—nobody wishes to sign such an important document in an incomplete residence.

Yes, an emissary may be sent, I simply request that the entourage be kept to a minimum, such that providing hospitality be as easy as possible in this busy period of construction.

[EXCLUSIVELY TO THE EYES OF THE PRIME MINISTER, CHARLES J. MINSTOR]

To: The United Kingdom

From: Hang Chung, Supreme Executive of the People's Republic of China

It is with great gratitude that I write today, Prime Minister. India, despite it's deep ties to it's religious beliefs, is perhaps the most blatant victim of bourgeoisie-driven class disparity, and that's well before you arrival. Though I'm sure there is more you could educate me on the degree of that disparity than the reverse. While I will afford India some autonomy as a state (we will not assail their core religious practices), know that it is in the very spirit' of democracy that it may not be the India of the here and now, where people exist in complete subordination to privileged few by the virtue of their birth. While there are farmers and there are laborers in our Republic, we have afforded them democracy in how they contribute to the health of our nation, and we have finally appreciated their status as the foundation of any society. It is in my thinking that Communism and Democracy are not mutual exclusives, and with time, the barrier in-between the two may disappear entirely.

China assures you, Executive Charles, that it will not be the common-man or common-child who are subject of ire and subjugation. Rather, after so many centuries, we will afford just them them the tools and the means as which to secure their freedom, if they so wish to take it. I can not assure you, however, the health of those few who would keep India weak so that they might enjoy royalty. As one of the eldest surviving civilisation of our earth, India deserves better.

With hope,

Hang Chung, Supreme Executive of The People's Republic of China
