Edge Town-After Hours

There’s a lounge in the upper reaches of the Ragnarok Casino. A lounge far removed from the glitz, the noise and tacky decorations of the floor below. It’s a highly exclusive place, open to only a few select people. Alex wouldn’t have it any way. This isn’t a club for politicians, or crime lords, or bored civilians looking for entertainment. No, this is simply a place for a certain type of people unwind and relax. No weapons are allowed beyond it’s doors, and spells tend to have trouble within it’s confines.

It’s called Valhalla. It doesn’t exist right now, but it might, somewhere, someday.

As for the name, you can’t expect the vampire crime lord to do a good deed without a little blasphemy, after all.

Surprisingly, it lacks the tacky Norse Decorations that mark the rest of the casino. It’s a simple, restrained place, dimly lit with wall sconces that bathe the place in soft, rosey light, creating dancing shadows. The floor mostly soft red shag carpet, clean, and well kept. There are soft, comfortable couches, a few tables and a bar. In the corner, there’s a small stage. At the moment, a band plays music. Swing, and Jazz mostly. No faux-viking chanting. It sounds like something out of the roaring twenties.

It’s a serve yourself type of place. Sometimes, there’s a bartender, but mostly, it’s up to you to mix your own drinks. Money isn’t an object. The point is for people to relax.

There’s staff, sometimes-attractive women and men, conservatively dressed in suits and dresses. They don’t flaunt themselves, but they, too, are part of the amenities. If you want food, all you have to do is ask, and it will appear.

It’s not a place that exists right now, but it could. For whatever reason, you’ve found yourself here-now relax. Have some food, or drinks. Maybe some pleasant company. Listen to the music, maybe request a song. This place is here for you.

Gabren sat down in the upper floor bar of Ragnarok, sighing a little. The mask of Lord Emil had grown heavy as of late. Not to mention his...treatment...as of late. He somewhat found himself missing Leon, for some reason. He barely knew the younger Warden, but he supposed it was just that he was the last remnant of his old life.

Since nobody knew that he was under the age of twenty one, at least in his disguise, he ordered some Scotch and then sat down to think.

He wondered what The Demon would ask of him next. He hoped it did not involve betraying Alexander.

Alex walked through the door, dressed casually-at least for him, in all black. A collared shirt-no tie, top two buttons undone, slacks, and a blazer, to be exact.

“Sorry, I’m late...I was...”

Just what had he been doing? Something about an attack? On Ragnarok? That was ridiculous, of course. The casino was doing better than ever. He had just had this place built, in fact. At least, he thought he had just had it built. If there was an attack, he hadn’t heard of it, at least, and he thought he would have noticed something like that.

"..doing something." He finishes, having lost his train of thought.

Brushing though thoughts aside, he walks over to the bar, pouring himself a glass of Scotch-Glenfiddich, to be exact.. It would be nice to relax. Other than the night with Reinette, he hadn’t really slept decently for six months-and even with her, there had been the fear of betrayal. He takes a sip, then notices Lord Emil. He frowns. There was some reason the man shouldn’t be here, but it slipped his mind at the moment.

Walking over to his lieutenant, glass still in hand, he gives a nod of greeting.

“Emil. Long time no see. At least I think it’s been a while-time’s a little hazy right now.”

"Yeah, I've experienced that sensation myself. Something weird and Fae seems to be going on...all I remember before being here is being incredibly angry at the southerner."

He rubbed his head, and contemplated what this might mean. Well, he did remember Lily or something...but he shook his head. It seemed odd how everything had ended up.

As he slid the mask open to drink his Scotch, he thought of showing Alexander his face, so that he would dispel any notion of him being some sort of Dr. Doom like figure.

I have to wonder about who is responsible for the latest string of occurrences in Vegas? I mean, really responsible. Either its Loki again, or the Fae, whose irritating traits lately seem to have skyrocketed. Well, except Fix. I seem to have a soft spot for him.

"So, Alex, in the course of your Barony, have you met any of the darker side of the supernatural world? As in, Old Nick, any demons, or far...stranger types..." He had to wonder if, in all of Alex's time, he had ever dealt with groups aligned with Outsiders. He actually hoped it would be someone new, someone they hadn't dealt with before, who was dealing in what was going on. Because, seriously, if it was Loki again, it'd be making him into Ganondorf.

Jarl sat in the corner of the lounge, occupying himself with the dichotomous notion of reading a book, from the looks of things.

"Well, this isn't as tacky as the rest of the casino. Maybe this bit will actually survive."

Kat sat herself opposite of Jarl, obviously clothes for entertainment rather than battle. A simply black long jacket, a short blue skirt, blue & white striped overknee socks, dark blue boots up below her knee and two blue bands in her hair creating small pigtails. The jacket was hanging open, showing a - again blue and white striped - bikini top without any hindrance, a blue cloth choker on her throat and on her nose sat a pair of glasses.

"So? What are you reading?"

"A book on magic theory. I figured I'd use the downtime to do something slightly productive."

He rolled his shoulder. "I like to keep myself informed about what's going on with the Council. A favor to an old friend, I guess."

"Sounds....interesting." She answered, not even attempting to cover the lie, while sipping on a sake bowl.

He shrugged and put the book aside. He grinned. "That's about the reaction I expected."

"Looks like you've already started straining the good Baron's resources."

"Eh, its not like he can't afford it. And hey...whats the point of having a half-demon body if you can't drink the way it would kill normal people. Aside from the...optic advantages" She grinned, and poured another bowl.

Jarl rolled his eyes. "Are all of your clanmates like this?"

"Well, if you spend your life fighting demons you tend to..relax enthusiastically." Kat shrugged.

"They take outside students?"

"For the swordsmanship, not the intense relaxing. Not the type."

"Talk about another brick in the wall. I'm pretty sure every supernatural entity in Faerie and Asgard is looking for me to 'prove myself' by now."

Alex shakes his head, wondering what was on Emil's mind.

"None of those. I usually tend to stay the hell away from them-you can deal with them, but they cheat. More to the point, it's hell on your reputation if you're found out dealing with any of them."

He turns.

"Jarl, I didn't know you could read-and Kat, every time I see you, I feel like you're in a new type of fetish gear."

"And I didn't know you had taste, yet this room exists. I guess sometimes life's full of surprises."

Kat simple let the glasses slip down on her nose and grinned. "Just remember my hands off or hand off policy."

"Incidentally, does anyone who grew up in this White God-infested country want to tell me why they set the bar for legal drinking this high?"

"Because drinking alcohol requires more maturity than voting for our leaders, killing and dying in wartime, being an adult in general, or smoking cigarettes," explained Terrence from a nearby seat. "Or people are dumb. Take your pick."

"I guess my country isn't much better. We have the age of consent at fifteen, the legal age for alcohol purchase at sixteen, and driving and smoking at eighteen. Guess what being young in that neck of the woods is like."

Isaac sat at a table in the corner, shuffling a deck of cards. He wasn't entirely sure where the cards came from, or even why he was here. But whatever, he always enjoyed shuffling cards. There was something relaxing about it.

He took another sip of his drink. He had chosen it at random, didn't even know what it was. It certainly wasn't good, but it was strong. That's all that really mattered.

"About what being young here is, I expect, except you don't need to get someone's older sibling to buy you booze.

"Not being able to drive until you're eighteen, now that sucks. I mean, drinking's fun but driving's useful, and I could drive just fine when I was thirteen or so."

"...You learning to drive at the age of thirteen explains so much."

"Actually, how old were you when you learned to transform into a werewolf?"

"Twenty-two. And I was taught to drive by a wheelman-turned-taxi-driver, whose opinion of my abilities I trust far more than yours."
