When I was very active on this part of the forum before I would always use Jessie Evan from my Behind Blue Eyes novel in discussion. She would be the most heroic character, perhaps, more small potatoes work than other hero or anti hero characters I use who are soldiers, who would fit better in some big game, but because she's more grounded and more likeable as well as her being the character of the big writing project I'm working on she would be one of my faves.
Currently reading up My Rule Fu Is Stronger than YoursI'd prefer if you didn't say that.

That came across as ruder than I meant it to. But the blithe assurance that it's "unavoidable" really does bother me. Very few things that are wholly under the author's control are actually unavoidable in fiction.
Fair enough.
I think it's human nature to pick favorites and I'm quite certain most authors are human.
