Wait, you're telling me this is the good pacing version?
This is a story that is at it best while going back and forth and taking its time.
It depends… The manga was somewhat faster paced overall (at least for this arc) since less flashbacks, but the anime tells the story better.
And that's why I'm curious at how they'll handle the expositiontastic sequence in volume 16/17.
You know looking back on it I do genuinely love Season's 2 opening, even more than Season's 1 Opening I think. I mean yeah the animated part of it gets really silly near the end (Beast Titan running with a bunch of animals from different eras of the planet) but it's still a really good opening.
I'd say the opposite, really. While "Shinzou wo Sasageyo!" is a great song, about half of the OP is just he characters standing around or putting on gear. Then you get really awesome, beautifully animated part as the song kicks up of the Survey Corps charging through all the Titans and dodging rocks and Mikasa tossing Eren into the air as he bites his hand, shifts, and goes to punch the Armored Titan. It's great. Then you get all that animal nonsense and the rest of the OP is kinda bad.
It looks pretty, sure, but it has no real connection to any of the characters or the events of the season (other than Eren VS Reiner). Several other anime OPs do the whole "gearing up" thing and it's just a boring there as it is here.
Let the joy of love give you an answer! Check out my book! What did you think of the Adult Swim cuts of the songs?
I never said silly meant bad
I don't really think much of them at all. Every show on Toonami gets the OP cut unless it's the first show on the block or the first time the OP is used. I think Bebop and GITS:SAC get uncut privileges as well, but they're special cases.
When I watch with my dad he prefers to just skip the OP altogether, but this is the only anime he watches, so he doesn't really get why people care about O Ps and E Ds.

PSN ID: FateSeraph | Switch friendcode: SW-0145-8835-0610 Congratulations! She/TheyThis season was pretty great overall but was anyone else underwhelmed by the music? Season 1 had some really awesome tracks but nothing from season 2 really stands out to me except for the music during the Ymir flashback.
The bit when Reiner and Bert transform was pretty sweet.
I mean, it was Vogel im Kafig, but a remix so...

That's kind of what I meant. All the really stand out music was stuff from season 1. I don't think there was a whole lot of new stuff.
But Barricades

Yeah, Barricades and Call of Silence were the only new vocal tracks we got. And a majority of the other tracks were either from the previous season, or new mixes of the original.
Hell, even the majority of the character songs are heavily borrowing from tracks in the series.
Those two were pretty great though. I hope Barricades is used again.
Oh yeah, the music is FANTASTIC but not nearly enough. ;-;
So do you think we'll get any new ovas or chibi shorts before next year?
Annie's story being animated would be AMAZING, plus a good way to foreshadow some of the stuff for next season since it's focused on the Military Police and Wall Sina.

I think so. Ilse's notebook was I think a bonus chapter in one of the volumes and the Levi one was I think a spin-off manga I never finished reading but I never watched that ova.
Yeah, Ilse's Notebook is a side chapter and referenced later on in the main series. Mainly Hange going upon learning there's a rookie named Ymir.
Levi's story also seems to be considered Canon.
The other two stories are completely made-up, with the really crack-tastic one taking from the various comedy omakes Isayama has done. That's why we have Sasha's cooking battle, Sasha randomly punching Reiner, the "Titan team" fantasy, and Jean's mom busting into his room.
Still, I think Annie's side story being animated would be awesome. It'd be a nice bonus to include with at least one of the dvds.

Ilse's Notebook is indeed canon. The interesting thing about that OVA is that the blond Talking Titan you see in that has a striking resemblance too that short haired blond girl in Ymir's cult that she tried to save along with the rest.
That explains why the Talking Titan made a shrine out of Ilse's body and why it didn't eat her, she looked exactly like Ymir but with a different hairstyle.
I really like the first half of You See Big Girl (or however it's capitalized) even if it is remixed in three different songs.
Officially caught up with the manga now. It's really admirable how early Iasyama must have plotted all this out.
In short: don't even try, you'll die.
Yeah, I honestly think the anime is a perfect adaption. It not only has everything that made the manga great, it manages to correct several flaws the manga had to make the story even better while providing all of the wonderful things you can only get out of an animated medium with audio.
Seriously, the seiyuu just knocked it out of the park with the Season 2 finale. Eren's in particular did a phenomenal job.
