Might I suggest you check out The Lucifer And Biscuit Hammer? It has a nice balance of silly and serious, and there's a lot of silly.
In other words, yes, all that matters is good writing.

Looks crazier than my story for sure. I'm just always plagued by self-doubt. Wanted to get someone else's opinion.

I'm just a person who writes random short stories just as a hobby. Rather recently, I started writing something that quickly became more serious than the other crazy things I usually write.
What I was wondering was if an unusual story that doesn't take itself very seriously could still deal with themes that would normally be associated with a story of a... higher caliber.
Just wanted to see what people thought.
