Likely a tie-in for the coming movie, no?

Apparently these are the guys who did just cause 2 so insane action and explosions seem likely. I'm liking the concept but it'll really depend on whether or not they've improved their sandbox game. JC 2 had so little to do on this giant bloody map and I'm kinda worried this will have the same issue and no parachute/claw of death to make up for it.

Is using "Julian Assange is a Hillary butt plug" an acceptable signature quote?

As you might have seen from the trailer, they say ammo is scarce and there seems to be a lot of mele or car combat involved. Which kinda fits, in the second movie, Max spent most of the movie threatning people with and empty shotgun.

I also hope that the combat is more brutal, since the trailer gives this "The wasteland is curel" vibe. Max eating maggots off a corpse inforces it even more. But again, Apparently grubs are pretty damn nutritious when your just trying to survive with only bare essentials.

[up] Let's not forget Mad Max 2 had a guy in leather chaps doing multiple twirls while backflipping over Max.

Realism is only needed when it can help the story.

Fair enough, but Max was no Kill-All-Easily person, the injuries are treated in a rather realistic way, and he was always in danger. We'll see how they incorporate it in the game.

I am not asking for 100 percent realism, I want a challenge and that the game turns out as brutal as Avalanche claims/thinks it will be.

I'd be fine with a challenge. A challenge would be fun.

The game will also come out at September 1, 2015. The game has been delayed for further development so it will no longer release at the same period of the film, which is no big deal as both stories are standalone.

The game and latest movie are using Mad Max as some urban legend in the universe, with many people having interpetaions on how he looks like, and for all we know, some of them might have been impersonators.

I'm wondering how "scarce" ammo is going to be. With any luck it'll be like in the movies where make-shift bows are the weapon of choice.

It's looking pretty damn good. Which is odd for a movie game.

Oh really when?

I know right? With Shadow of Mordor a while back and this I think they're finally starting to figure out that good games sell better.

With Fury Road being a massive success, I think there would be some more interest in this game as long as eveything turns well.

Also, is it me or is the Max in the game a mix of Gibson's Max and Tom Hardy's Max?

Holy shit 4 posts in a row, man I am desperate...

I'm kind of afraid that the game won't even remotly live up to the hype the film made.

Not sure how much can you expect. The game is an open world with some Fallout-esque quests for different faction, scavenging, etc...

The problem is that the game is more true to the older films than Fury Road, so if people expect it to be based on the film, they'll be wrong. However, what can one ecpect from a game? Driving, shooting, more driving, more shooting, and a Mad Max with a shotgun.

However, I understand what you mean. That hype would be soooo ludicrous, an unfair situation for Avalanche. Sometimes hype can harm even actually good games.

Well, you're assuming that the game will be good period. Its not out yet. For all we know, it could be just simply awful.

I think it probably would have been better for the game to release with Fury Road. If it was awful, it probably would have made decent on the film's scuccess and been quietly forgotten in the film's shadow unless it was so truly awful to get E.T. Problem with Liscenced Games status. If it turned out good, it would be seen as a suitable companion to the film.

Now that there's distance between the two, the very nature of what makes Mad Max 'Mad Max' has been challanged, discussed, and evolved. Expectations for what Mad Max; The Video Game sould be like have changed because, for many people and most of them being the demographic that buys video games, there is a new idea of what Max Max means. And that expectation will be placed on the game in a way that it doesn't have time to compensate for really.

Unfortunatly, there's going to be an expectation for memorable characters, subtle storytelling, and interesting themes with maybe some social commentary.

"What can you expect from a game?" Well, these days, a lot. Story telling wise; games have seriously evolved and there's a more willingness to talk about actual issues and have more serious stories being told. For example; Life is Strange is grappling with topics such as bullying, suicide, serious trauma, and possibly even sexuality. While that's nothing new for a film, its a video game trying to talk about it.

And, sure, Life is Strange isn't the type of game that Mad Max is or ever should be (Point-and-click puzzle solving Mad Max? I have my doubts), but even gritty action games can discuss issues such as govenment outsourcing and surveliance (Batman: Arkham City) and both games are still Video Games; Video Games are a medium, not a genre.

Expectations are getting there for the writing to be smarter and carry themes and commentary and relatable characters. A paint by the numbers lisceneced game won't get too far here.

Well, the developers said something among the lines of the game exploring sanity and morality in such a chaotic world. Max in the game is not the sane man around, with chumbucket (The guy at the back of the car) serving as a contrast to Max's attitude.

While Fury Road teams Max with the mysterious Imperator Furiosa , the game version will team up with a character right at home in the world of Thunderdome: Chumbucket, an “idiot savant sidekick” who happens to be an extremely skilled mechanic.

The contrast is that Max in Fury Road cared about those he helped, while in the game Max's situation is more ambigious, it seems he sees Chumbucket initially as a tool.

It has been stated multiple times the game is a standalone story that can be ignored. Film franchises adapted into video games usually run into trouble when they attempt to tell the same story, so it may prove a wise move to see that the Mad Max game will instead be expanding the existing world in an interactive way.

Tom Hardy's Max is angry and paranoid, Game's Max is supposed to be insane... So we'll wait and see I guess, could be good, could be bad, could be alright.

Ok, hold on... The game was actually supposed to release around the same time as the films, but was delayed as they were not happy about it.

And I'll be honest here. Even if Fury Road never came out, a good plot and characters are still needed, the older films had them.

It also doen't help the developers are quiet about it. Now that can either be a good or bad thing... Huh, well, waiting for the reviews I guess.

In any case, I'm interested in the game now, though I'll probably wait and see if the reviews are good before I get it. It'd be nice to play wasteland desert-punk post-apocalyptic style game that isn't an FPS or an RPG, but a more traditional action game.

I also think that rifle turning from a carbine into a sniper was pretty cool, and I have to say, the way things look through binoculars and scopes in some of those shots, where Max is spying on an enemy camp against the sunset? That kind of visual looks amazing to me, and not something I see in a game often.
