Interesting. I wasn't aware that their initial plan for HTTYD 2 was to have Valka as an antagonist, but it makes a lot of sense in retrospect. It is a bit of a shame they didn't go through with it at least partially - it would've been interesting to see how they would have written that.
"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. And it would have given her a reason to be in the film.
Looking for some stories?Well, I wouldn't go that far. While she is ultimately underused int he main plot, that's a problem that movie had with most of it's supporting cast - Valka at least had more impact than the bulk of Hiccup's posse (minus Astrid).

To get back on topic, I'm pretty sure that if Po's dad was really going to be an antagonist, that they wouldn't drop such an obvious hint about it. I was always under the impression that the "threat closer to home" referred to the personal conflict of Po being torn between his real family and his adoptive one. Because you know that's going to happen.
I actually think Tai-Lung could be used again in an Enemy Mine situation. And even then there's still room for development, he wants to be Dragon Warrior but can't accept that Po is better than him, think of it as an animal Vegeta and Goku rivalry.
Good news: 20th Century Fox moved KFP 3's release date away from a week after Star Wars: The Force Awakens to March 18, 2016.
Bad news: The movie will be facing four tentpoles, the most prominent of which being Batman V. Superman.

"You can run, but you can't hide from the Buzzinator!"I just want a teaser.
My angry rant blog!I'd assumed there would be one attached to Home, but now I'm not sure. Also, the previous films had some pretty big competition and still managed to do well in the long run. A lot of the gross is probably gonna come from China anyway.

Looking for some stories?"HAL is doing a voice in Kung Fu Panda?"
Douglas Rain is in it?
Bryan Cranston. The dad from Macolm In The Middle.

... I thought u would've said Breaking Bad, probably the biggest gig he ever got.
He got thrown off by the name Hal, which was the name of the dad in Malcolm in the Middle.
Oh, putting it in all caps made me think of the HAL-9000. That's the voice they should have.
So this is interesting. Apparently, Dreamworks has been working on a Secrets of the Scroll 2D short and just held a screening for it, which implies that the short is pretty much done already. Do you think they'll hold off on releasing it for Panda 3's DVD bundle or do you think that we might get it sooner as a stand-alone release?
I JUST WANT A DARN TRAILER.
My angry rant blog!Well, there's apparently going to be a teaser premiering with Home. Might give me a reason to actually go see it.
Not sure how official this is, but it does seem to match up with what we already know.
Ugh. I don't wanna see Home.
Home looks like a lot of fun to me!
Kung Fu Panda and Dragons: Literally the only two things Dreamworks makes that I care about.
Visit my Tumblr! I may say things. The Bureau ProjectThey should make Kung Fu Dragons
Or How to Train Your Panda.
It's been 3000 years…Or How to Train Your Dragon Warrior.
...Seriously, no one thought of that?
A plot summary.
