@Jhimmi: to me it reads as "If you'd rather pursue attacks on gay people and promote the sort of bombastic, ruitual laden, pomp and circumstance style church I am trying to move the church away from, thats fine. But I have no reason to keep you on my staff if you dont want to work on what I consider important."
Its the pope's job to lead the church in the direction he feels is best for the flock, not do what the flock wants because he's afraid a few might walk out.

Most of what I knew about Burke was his determined fighting against "moseying up to politicians for street cred." If anything, he was notable for irritating the Church's more politician-friendly timeservers ... such as his replacement. So that's kind of hard to like.
It's nice to hear such sentiments at last become common! Kind of weird, though ... I'm sure the people saying such things must have also been saying them during the JP2 and Benedict pontificates. I'm drawing a blank, though. Oh well: probably just me.

I had nothing against either of those pontiffs. I didnt think Benedict was a very good pope, but I thought John paul did a lot of good things in the same vein as Francis. And I dont remember ever saying either of them wasnt allowed to dictate what th church should be doing.
Jesus, by your definition I'm not allowed to be happy about Francis' ideals unless I unilaterally support every single pope without question.

While I do support what Francis has done so far, I would still like to see more accountability to the congregation.
I think there’s a global conspiracy to see who can get the most clicks on the worst liesNot at all! But surely it'd be fair to say that many of us tend to be happy with a Pope's ideals to the extent they map with our own, and not necessarily to the extent that they're Catholic. Now that's fine if one isn't Catholic ... but if one is, it seems kind of wrong-headed.
The Pope isn't the highest authority — God is. I mean Pope Leo sold indulgences, but most of us today would side with the Lutherans on that one (OMG HERESY).
Francis isn't just gathering steam because our youth are hitting a wave of post-fundie liberalism. He's gathering steam because we honestly think he's getting down to what actually matters about following Christ in a meaningful way.

You can't get more Christian than throwing the tables of money-changers over and pointing out that you should take care of the needy.
Exactly.
...For some reason I just had a image in mind mind of Pope Francis going Hulk(but retaining his Cool Hat) and smashing some of the Banking buildings in new york.
Not his style, I know, but It made me laugh.
I'm baaaaaaackIt isn't? Francis has been consistently showing a willingness to kick some ass to get stuff done.
other cool jesus acts include creating enough wine for the best party ever and creating infinite fish and breads

That is perfect.
I'm baaaaaaackAnyone know if this is legit?
Somehow you know that the time is right.Thought not, but 'twould be interesting.
Somehow you know that the time is right.Yeah, a "Third Vatican Council" would be known.

Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Yeah, rich people in most other countries aren't singlehandedly tanking the economy for hundreds of millions of people whilst walking away as some of the richest men in the world.

Vatican confirms Pope Francis has not ‘abolished sin’.
Everything is Possible. But some things are more Probable than others. JEBAGEDDON 2016Phew! I was worried for a minute there.
Dopants: He meant what he said and he said what he meant, a Ninety is faithful 100%.Yeah, it's no where near as fun when you are allowed to do it.
I think there’s a global conspiracy to see who can get the most clicks on the worst liesI know this may be bandwagon-jumping, but I like this pope.
Now you can tell that I'm completely obsessed with Doctor Who from the completely unwanted, unbidden notion that dropped onto my head: in a parallel universe, the Pope is a Time Lord, and every new pope is a regeneration rather than an actual new guy.
Ahem. Whomania aside, I like that he focuses so much on the poor and such. But... isn't he a Jesuit? Isn't a Jesuit pope a bit of a contradiction? What, he's sworn to obey himself? Or have the rules changed?
By the way, since we're in this thread, can you tell me what happened with the Franciscans and the Carmelites? Especially the Barefoot Carmelites, they had this most amazing medieval poetess.. what was her name again...?
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.@Handle: Any man who has been baptized Catholic can be elected Pope.
And the Barefoot Carmelites didn't have any medieval poetesses, on account of only being formed in 1593.

Which of what I can tell, the two guys he yanked, Burke and Rigali, were pretty loud about wetting their feets in the political sphere.
