[up]That was my main issue. I thought the reason given for them leaving was pretty dumb and it was even more annoying when they never actually got their own series.

Deathlock was another case of an actor getting a permanent gig in another show (not that he was ever a fully fledged cast member in Ao S....I think his character is a little bit too expensive to have him around all the time anyway). As was Raina.

Deathlock is on my list of characters I hope will turn up again this season.

I still think Most Wanted would have been the most pointless spin-off ever.

[up]I agree which is why I'm not bummed that it never got made. However I think it's kind of bullshit that they got rid of Hunter and Bobbie on the off chance it came out. They should have had the show's future secured before pulling them.

Eh. It sounds like an ok spin-off. We only have the premise rather than what it would have actually felt like. Mind you, the premise of this show is 'The daily strange and unatural cases faced by the Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D'. Not given much in the way of what the show would have been like.

I don't miss Hunter and Bobbi. Besides, cutting down on the cast some was a good idea.

Season 3 was getting choked by having so many people in the cast, Hunter and Bobbi's departure helped to soothe that a bit. Plus I mean, I almost cried when they left, so it was pretty emotional. I'm ambivalent about the failed spin-off but I don't regret it never being made.

I miss Hunter and Bobbi.

I'd certainly rather have them over the likes of Deke and Uatu-Lite.

Isn't Deke basically Lincoln-lite at this point? Or Ward-lite?

In order to be Lincoln-Lite he'd have to be a floor lamp. I wouldn't miss Deke if he'd never appeared, but he wasn't that bland. He's just another character who kind of showed up and never really went anywhere, who ended up not really needing to be there. Same as Kasius, same as Tess, same as about half of this half of the season, really.

Should've done Agents of SWORD. Should've done Breakworld. I could see them making that work.

I reserve my judgement of Deke for now. But yes, the cast got a little bit crowded in season 3, between Bobby and Hunter and the Secret warriors characters. They juggled it admirably, but if they had still be around, there wouldn't have been any room to introduce new characters...I mean, we are now up to seven, maybe eight, again.

I can't hold it against Bobbi and Hunter that the Secret Warriors made the cast feel jumbled. They were here first, and the cast felt just fine in season 2.

From the beginning, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a premise that should have a large cast. The show has a habit of feeling like an RPG sometimes. "Congratulations, Coulson, you have become the head of this massive paramilitary organization with untold resources and personnel at your disposal. Now go pick your own herbs and run every mission by yourself, with only your six named party members to back you up."

Season 3's about when the plot armor really started to feel about six inches thick. Before that there was more of a rotating cast, a feeling like the organization was growing back into what it had once been despite a few setbacks, and a sense that anyone could die, even if I never really believed they'd kill Simmons. Killing Rosalind, Ward (finally), Malick, and Lincoln, writing out Bobbi and Hunter and leaving Mack as the only new character left, never really capitalizing on the Secret Warriors... it just solidified the main cast and removed the last illusions about the show's scale. Which is a missed opportunity, a lot of the time. Seriously, all it would take is the occasional "our source in Marrakesh has eyes on" etc or a "Don't worry, a field team is already on route. What I'm going to need you to do is..."

Protagonists do everything. Plus there is the issue of budget when it comes to a large cast. That’s one of the things that sunk Heroes from what I remember.

The main problem I had with Hunter and Bobby was just that I never really felt that they 'belonged' to Team Coulson. Mack had a splendid chemistry with the Team from the start, even Trip felt more connected with his very limited screentime, but Bobby and Hunter were just kinda....there most of the time, interacting more with each other than with the rest of the team.

Plus, like I think I said several times before, Hunter lost pretty much all of my sympathy when he suggested to Fitz to just leave Will to die on Maveth because he is 'competition' for Jemma.

What Hunter says and what he actually does in the end are two pairs of shoes. Remember, he is the guy who told Daisy that she should think about herself and not about Shield. And yet, when push came to shove, he was ready to lay his life down for it. Not just risking it, but heading towards execution.

Anyway, now I want a point and click adventure, asap. They could do a story in which the team has to collect information from different parts of the world, allowing the player to click between the different teams and figure stuff out, until they have everything together for the big showdown. They could even do it like the Indiana Jones game (something, something Atlantis), where the player can pick different teams and different agents solve the same problem differently.

Btw, they released some promo pics for episode 100....don't look at them if you don't want to get spoiled. It looks like they have stopped even trying to hide what most fans already guessed.

From the beginning, S.H.I.E.L.D. has been a premise that should have a large cast.

A large cast yes but not a large main cast. That I think was the problem, they kept trying to make new characters main characters instead of letting them be occasional support people. If they’d wanted the feel of a large organisation they could have gone the Stargate route, had a core team doing stuff, a core base team that shows up most episodes and secondary support teams that come in when needed. But they kept wanting to vary things up with new people on the main team all the time.

I don't even feel like removing Bobbi and Hunter actually allowed more development of the Secret Warriors. Lincoln barely got anything to do until they eventually killed him off, Joey (our only gay character) just disappeared off the face of the earth after being the season opener of all things.. And Elena's romance with Mack isn't something I'm buying or invested in at this point.

I think they cut out the good characters in favor of characters they didn't do much with.

I like Elena and Mack, and I never really cared about Bobby and Hunter. Writing them out worked fine; they took time away from the more interesting main characters.

Okay so the episode airs this coming up Friday, but I've gotten official word that...honestly makes me unsure what the fuck they're doing with this.

Lash and Hive are coming back in Episode 100. I don't know if this is a flashback or not but it's happening apparently.
