I believe I played a few of these one day at some... house. Missing reel in my head here. It may have been the fourth game, the party owns a castle which is still full of random battles.
That happens in the seventh, but I can't guarantee it only happens in the seventh.
...eventually, we will reach a maximum entropy state where nobody has their own socks or underwear, or knows who to ask to get them back. You do eventually acquire a castle in Clouds of Xeen (which is the fourth one), so that could be it too.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Heh, I keep trying to write meaningful responses, but all that keeps showing up on my screen is variations of:
I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.
I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.
I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.
I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.
I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it. I want it.
The one I played was back about '95.
That would be Clouds then. Just so you know, the combat system in X is most closely based on that of IV (Clouds) and V (Darkside of Xeen), so if you liked those...
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)I liked ALL of them.
I've been playing since Might and Magic I on my parent's Commodore 64 when I was but a wee lad.
That would be 1986, if I remember.
Jonah FalconSounds about right.
I was three or four and I helped my Mum map the lands of VARN on grid paper as she played.
A bit later(I think I was 4 or 5) she set me up with my own character disk and let me play on my own.
A couple weeks after that, my little level two adventurers were decked out in end game gear that I had stolen from her characters by copying her character disk, importing her party and stripping them bare.
I have such fond memories of this series. ^_^
Seems like a deliberate throwback, which is refreshing. (Says the dork who got in with the Genesis version of Gates to Another World and liked everything from 1 to 6. 7 was kind of the shark jump for me.)
I'm definitely happy that they didn't try to retread the same old ground as the old games, because that 'verse was played out. Not sure I'm happy with the new classes but I'll reserve judgment there.
Yeah. Does anyone know how to add a WMG post on the Might & Magic page? I'm trying, but when I type it in, it links me to the Heroes of M & M page.
I'm not sure what you mean. You should be editing it into this page. (Just make sure to index it if you do.) No redirects are involved, so...
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Thank you so much.
Anyway, as far as this game goes, anything would be better than 9. (But I can't help but think What Might Have Been if they had actually been able to work on it longer...) And as an old fan of the franchise... I want this game bad.
An early build is apparently now available through Steam Early Access.
I'll try to get it in the next week or two.

Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Huh, never thought that big publisher would put a game into early access ._. I guess this is bit indie like game anyway, whats with it looking like it was inspired by success of certain game
Well, I've tinkered around with the pre-release build. It's ridiculously slow-paced (they need to speed/smooth it up), but it's functional and fairly fun.)
Also, the game will be fully moddable.
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)Necro!
They recently announced that M&MX will not be receiving any more updates. What makes this interesting is that Ubisoft's annual report (issued in May 2014, covers May 2013 through April 2014) makes no mention of this game at all, despite it being released in January. Given that the game did decently well in sales, if not spectacular, I smell Canon Discontinuity as the culprit...
Expergiscēre cras, medior quam hodie. (Awaken tomorrow, better than today.)
Reminds me bit of Legends of Grimrock
Nice that they didn't decide to go full 3d
