Don't gloss over the cost of the materials there. That kind of stuff would take months or years to pay off in the real world. I'm only willing to accept the idea that it's even possible for him to break even in five days is because they're clearly not living in the real world.

And, I mean, he definitely needs to be in first by a wide margin to have a chance; nobody else built anything even remotely approaching that monstrosity.

Also, you sure they didn't hire any workers to build that thing? 'Cause if that's the reason why their costs are lower than you'd expect, that's a bit of a Voodoo Shark. Unless it's all actually shoddy as hell and going to collapse any second.

Kuga not only wasn't in the res after the first day, he was far ahead of everyone else. Like it or not, this clearly isn't an issue here.

Yeah I've accepted that the author is just going to completely ignore the obvious issues here. Apparently only the cost of ingredients matters.

Also? Even taking that into account, Kuga's personal profits should still be much lower. He has a staff of ten to twenty people who all get a cut of the proceeds.

They're volunteers doing it for the work experience, so he doesn't need to pay them. Interns, if you will.

While it´s true that nobody else build something that big, somehow it feels as if the building doesn´t stay the same size. Compare here to here. In the second picture it looks much smaller and manageable. Then again i never build anything even remotely like that and have no experience with the cost of such things so i will take your word for it^^

So now our consense is that Soma will sell more than Kuga on one day(probably day5), so that Kuga will be forced to respect him? Imagina Erinas face when she hears that!(she clearly has a higher opinion on Soma now but i still don´t think she thinks of him as worthy of Elite10 attention)

If we're speaking of pure ability, she probably has a better opinion of him than most of the first years. Her issues with him are personal and stylistic.

@Shlugo: Yeah, see, I'm choose to believe that was only taking into account his operating costs for that day, not the cost of building that temple. Because the alternative is kind of idiotic.

I can accept that I may be wrong here, but I would consider it to be a pretty gaping plot hole if it's not somehow addressed.

Watched episode 2.

Souma did kinda ask for it, but the fact of the matter is, Erina failed him not for the quality of his cooking (which she clearly enjoyed) but just because she didn't like him.

That's pretty biased isn't it? What would people say if they knew that?

She could probably just cover for it by saying his abilities are unsuited for Tootsuki, which is something she honestly believes. Or believed. It's unclear if she still holds that opinion after the Fall Classic.

I'm not sure what her opinion of him is now. I wouldn't say she likes him but I don't think you can really say she still dislikes him either.

She seems neutral on him at this point, maybe even respects a little bit after the Fall Classic.

I'd agree with that.

I mean, I'm pretty sure at one point she recognized that he learns from his mistakes and is constantly trying to get better....or something like that.

Whatever the case, she can't really deny that he's legitimately skilled.

Now, she probably still pisses him off, but that's a give-in.

......That ending is still weird.....in fact, I think it actually makes me mad.

Just that one part where everyone is just doing the monotonous poses and actions......it's irks me for reasons I can't explain.

Learning from his failures only made her more irritated. Not allowing something to remain a failure because he's just that obsessed with winning seems to have made her actually realize she was judging him too harshly.

Anyway, now I guess she probably doesn't exactly respect him since I don't think she respects anyone, but she seems to have buried most of her hatred and doesn't seem to want him to get kicked out anymore.

Seeing as she's graduated from calling him "Yukihira Souma" to "Yukihira-kun" I'd definitely say some respect is slowly starting to form here, or at least her defrosting more towards him.

Maybe Hisako told her about how he helped her out.

I've noticed that she's not impressed with his cooking anymore, when she tastes it. I mean, I guess they're not complete dishes, and Soma's just using her to get advice on how to improve, but it's sort of interesting that when she hates him less she's also less excited about his cooking.

She was impressed enough with round 2 of his beef stew and his curry risotto, in a way. I think it's just that she's acknowledged that he deserves to be at Tootsuki while realizing that he's nowhere near her and therefore largely unworthy of interest. If she was excited to begin with it was because she expected him to be terrible when he was actually reasonably competent. Her opinion has improved but her standards have been raised higher at the same time.

Is that why she's seemingly unimpressed with all of his later dishes despite liking the first one she tasted?

Erina just seems to made pace with the idea that Souma will stick around, and just wants him to be less of an idiot.

I don't mind Souma's kind of idiocy.

I barely notice it, probably because it's more like he's just marching to his own drumbeat, as opposed to being incompetent to such a degree that it should be a crime for such a character to be breathing.

Hell, I'd say he's not even an idiot at all. He's a little reckless, and doesn't really care for certain hierarchies, but he's not dumb.

He's not dumb, but he's pretty reckless and lacks forethought. But once again, Shonen.
