Funny even Call of Duty is losing fans for being Call of Duty. The recent announcement of Black Ops III was met with a resounding "meh".
Which would explain why Advanced Warfare despite its being a letdown state (though still superior to Ghosts) tried implementing mobility/ability based gameplay like you see in some Halo games or like in Tribes.
And speaking of Halo, they're still off doing their own thing instead of playing the same shite again and again. Or as is the case of Battlefield anymore, literally the same 12 guns with new shinies and the same gameplay among each.
COD:Bl OPS III didn't lose me for being another COD game. It lost me because it's so obviously trying to be Deus Ex when there's another entry in that franchise coming out soon, and I'm probably only going to have the cash to buy one of those if I'm forced to choose. And it's going to be Deus Ex: Mankind Divided, I'm afraid.
The bad news though is that BLOPS III is still gonna outsell DX:MD no matter what; COD's casual fanbase alone is enough to make record-breaking sales.
True dat. Though I'm not going to decry anyone's choices of games, er well, pretty much. There are limits.
I do own Modern Warfare 2 and 3, though I've never installed the former, and also Battlefield 3 and Bad Company, though I've never played the latter. MW 3's story campaign is miles better than BF 3 in my view, it's certainly longer, but I do like both games quite a bit.
I'm amazed you were able to survive all of the head-bangingly bad logic the plot of MW 3 had, especially with Russia's insane manpower and logistics being at the forefront. To this date I wonder if the devs thought Russia's army was actually capable of invading both Europe and the US with little to no concerns of attrition, or the VERY likely massive political backlash they're gonna face once the war is over due to being so callous with their invasion tactics.
But I digress. At least the gameplay was better balanced than in MW 2.
Last I was aware, that last happened before you had the major decline in quality. Meaning that was Black Ops II.
Neither Ghosts nor Advanced Warfare broke any records. Least of all COD records.
Woah back up, you've never played Bad Company?
That game has got to have the best story of any of the modern age first person shooters. Hurry up and get on it.
Oh really when?Re: Battlefield 4 Author's Saving Throw: It should be noted that DICE LA is effectively in complete control of Battlefield 4's development now. Those guys have pretty competent at actually fixing things compared to DICE Stockholm's previous efforts.
Now if someone could play the same role for Ghost Games...
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotSo why weren't they the ones making BF 4? Maybe it might've turned out good instead of the pile of shite it is.
They did collaborate with DICE Stockholm on development of the game, although the extent of their involvement probably wasn't as large as that of the Stockholm operation.
They did handle the development of Second Assault, in addition to Dragon's Teeth and and Final Stand in addition to the CTE.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotAnd now Stockholm's effort is heavily redirected to do Battlefront and Mirror's Edge, so LA have to take up all the development over...
Give me cute or give me...something?So the Spring Patch hit yesterday bringing us 5 new weapons.
The AN-94, the L86A1, Groza models number 1 and 4, and the Mare's Leg.
In addition to those 5 there have been a shitton and a half of changes. Here be they.
Yes that's roughly 2500, no we haven't gotten all of them yet.
The exact stats for the new weapons are also in there.
Oh really when?Yep, the AN-94 came pre-nerfed.
I'm still gonna use it though. It was my favorite in 3 and I'm just happy to have it back.
I'm also happy the RPK-74M is just an RPK now.
Oh really when? Some of those muzzle velocity figures are painful to read. To say they are totally inaccurate for the real-life weapons they are supposed to be based on is putting it realllllly mildly.
Game balance. Pah.
^ If they had realistic bullet speeds instead of Painfully Slow Projectiles some weapons would seem like Hitscan. For example in reality the M-16 has a muzzle velocity of ~1100 m/s. A 1 km/s bullet speed in the cramped environs of a Battlefield game might as well be Hitscan. So they have to cut it in half as if 50 meters in game distance were like shooting an M-16 for over 500.
No, they make em so slow so they can advertise the gimmicky game mechanic of ballistics. (Of course given that Zeroing in BF 4 onwards eliminates the need to compensate for ballistic drop the feature is unused since everything other than sniper rifles is too inaccurate or too weak or has too much recoil or all three to be truly long ranged.)

Fired up the game and tried the new toys. I like them all so far.
Except the Mare's Leg which makes a dumb noise when fired and is worse than the .44 Magnum in literally every way. Apart from it's cool factor which is through the roof.
It's really damn nice to have a properly modeled AN-94 though. They even got the mag in at the funny angle and everything.

Oh really when?Do you still speedload it like BF 3? Or is it yet again the same copy and paste AK-74M reload anim they used for all Russian weapons this time around?
You still do the little magazine flick. It's fantastic.
The barrel even reciprocates this time and the gasses expel sideways out of the muzzle brake and the pistol grip is in it's weird spot.
I love it.

Oh really when? Why couldn't they do that level of care and diligence when making the game the first time around? It would have been significantly better.
Time constraints probably. You see it with Hardline too.
EA is just pushing these games out a few years too early.
Oh really when?I have to say this game is getting more and more like something I would buy, but I don't think it is worth full retail price yet. A Gucci edition on Origin could be worth waiting for.
Though muzzle velocities being so much lower than the real thing makes my teeth itchy...
The playerbase would be screaming about all weapons save for the shotguns and handguns being hit-scan snipers if the ballistics were anywhere near accurate.
If you want the real deal, you'll probably have to settle with games like ARMA 3 or Red Orchestra, they're the only two multiplayer shooter games I know of that model the ballistics accurately (and even then Red Orchestra takes some liberties in regards to bullet velocity and maximum range, especially with the basic battle rifles).
Which is funny considering other popular shooters like Halo or Call of Duty actually do just that or have Hitscan. For example the human sniper rifle in Halo 4 actually fires a projectile, it's just so fast that dodging it is out of the question without precognition skills. (Similarly the Battle Rifle in Halo 3 fired actual bullets with similar very high speeds.) The need to Lead the Target with that weapon only becomes extremely evident beyond 150 meters. Of course there's no bullet drop.

It's shaping up to be awful but we'll have to see.
I suppose this is what they get for trying to be Call of Duty.
Oh really when?
