1. Is it possible to move within the shadow or do you come out in the same spot as you went in? Can you jump between shadows?
2. Is it possible to take other people with you?
I'm not about to use it just yet, I was just wondering.

Well, given that we, a group of Sorcerers who'd just lost their leader and only have two or so years worth of experiences with magic, are up against the well-trained, heavily equipped armies of the Kingdom while being severely outnumbered, I'm honestly not surprised if the fort will be taken soon. It's only a matter of when(and if our characters can survive long enough or retreat) 
But hey, we can at the very least try to prolong that.

Montmorency: Yes, you can move within the shadow. If you went into the shadow of a tall building at the base then you could pop back out where the shadow of the top floor reaches without anybody knowing. No, you can't jump between shadows without leaving the one you're already in.
Yes, so long as you both can fit in the shadow.
