Roguelikes have always been known for BS mechanics... if a weak consolation, at least this game series doesn't have permanent stat drop traps, possible stat drops on levelup, permadeath...

So I restarted the game and realized that my shiny new Riolu doesn't have a ranged attack (yet). I picked Fennekin as my buddy instead, thinking it'd be cool to have a permanently-Braixen partner in the end.

But

That's the point of roguelikes

You need to deal with resource management and bs going on because the deck is stacked against you

I doubt I'm going to restart any time soon. I like my team of Lucario and Raichu, and I'd like to complete all of the missions.

Regardless, I still think it's a shit mechanic. I love rougelikes, but fuck hunger mechanics.

So I am dumb, I didn't realize Riolu had Quick Attack, hahaha. Though, I'm surprised Vacuum Wave isn't at least a 2-ranged move.

Fennekin is truly not half bad as partner, it has 2 ranged attacks right off the bat. This is something I'll miss even more, for a while at least, once she disappears...

At least this time around, I'll get to find out what happens when I say the partner is not annoying at all. The last time around, I said he was annoying, so he didn't walk with the protagonist to school, let alone talk to him, for a few days. [lol]

Once I get Pelipper Island back, I shall hire at least Totodile and Chikorita in honor of my old party.

[up] Remember the good old days when vacuum wave did no damage and affected everything in the room.

also Riolu seems like a fitting Pokemon for a partner cause. Well. You know.

Oh yeah! Those days...

But I'm dumb again! Vacuum Wave WAS A 2-range attack!

My protagonists have so many ranged attacks right now. Makes this game so easy.

Well unfortunately Riolu was my main.

You are dumb, main protagonist guy!

So I selected "not annoying", but he had to run his mouth about the partner dragging people into danger.

So yeah, partner threw a tantrum again and didn't talk to me for days...

I just fought that infamous Salamence again. Vulpix got hit by Dragon Tail. He had a toughness emera too, so Dragon Tail hit him, reducing him to 1 HP, then he flew off, and hit a wall and fainted from the hit. [lol]

Confuse Ray was the reason I took Vulpix along. Then the usual 4 Blast Seeds were used.

Also did Rotom's Monster House... this time, the protagonists stayed in the hallway, while Victini got taken to the middle of the room and AOE'd any approaching enemies with Searing Shot.

I don't like them either, but I feel like a minority of one what with the massive number of survival games where you have to eat lately.

The Sims kind of permanently killed the idea of hunger game mechanics to me.

I've never played the Sims, but now I'm curious what is the problem with hunger there?

How come I sometimes can't use the progress device?

When are you doing it? I believe the only times you shouldn't be allowed to use it are boss battles (including the "punish evildoers" bosses who appear on floors).

The last time I wasn't allowed to use it was when I was on the floor for "finders keepers with the guest pokemon". At that moment, my 3DS's battery was low, but I didn't have my charger with me (I was at a party). So I had no choice but to escape.

Rotoms monster house was fun and relatively easy.

But then again, he teleported me two steps away from the stairs, silly rotom.

In other news I had a massive oh shit moment when coming to face Solosis Fortunately quick orbs and The bosses rather low HP count saved the day.

Also how do I farm for apples? I buy them every time I see Kecleon and 10+ floor dungeons always give me headaches.

They never said anything about other quests disabling saving and rescuing, but maybe that's included. Gotta try that out for myself sometime shortly. <3

Hmm, do "fresh" Apples (with stars) go bad and turn into normal apples? I swear they seem to be disappearing from my box when I stockpile them!

Yeah Fresh apples by definition lose freshness after an unspecified period of time.

You should sell them to kecleon if you want extra cash.

Thanks.

Knowing that new facts about Apples, to farm them, I'd just run through any early game dungeon, sell the fresh ones and buy any normal ones (so I don't run out) from Kecleon along with any reviver seeds and blast seeds.

I have less money in this new playthrough than before as a result of buying every reviver I can afford, but it probably will be worth to save gold bars in the future.

Sometimes I have to stop selling Fresh apples due to kecleon deciding not to stock apples on some days.

I have this I'LL FIND MORE mentality with this game but sometimes it fails me like revivers in the previous playthrough... but I still have 10 apples in deposit right now!

Just so you know, Fresh Apples turn into normal Apples after the next adventure is over. So the only time you can effectively sell Fresh Apples is after your last quest but before your next one.

Yeah, but the problem with doing that is dwindling (nonfresh) apple supplies in the box. I usually take 3 with me at a time. Enough for most cases. But as pointed out, sometimes Kecleon doesn't restock enough.

I've never played the Sims, but now I'm curious what is the problem with hunger there?

The Sims are all total morons who can't take care of themselves and you have to micromanage everything for them, or they die. Or worse, make annoying sounds constantly. It ends up feeling a huge chore.

That was my early experience with it way back anyway. Does seem better now having played the Sims 3. The "take care of themselves" option seems to work better. Still have to micromanage things for them, but not as bad as I remember.

But "hunger mechanics" shall forever be hated by me. I group that in with having to make your Sim go poop and pee. And yes, you seriously had to do that for them.

[up][up] He's probably only frustrated at the guards?

[up] Sounds frustrating. I mean that really should be automated for average people for the sake of gameplay...

In this game's case at least we only get hungry inside a dungeon, but there are things like hunger traps, and moves that cause hunger (like Feather Dance, I think) so...

I think just having to jam my inventory with 3 apples is enough for most cases, fortunately.

Has anyone encountered the mysterious force that will blow you away if you stay too long on a floor?

It's been in all games since the first.

Usually when I'm grinding and wait in a large room too long for the enemy Pokemon to show up.

So I've joined the Expedition Society again.

At this point I feel my leader and partner are more OP than before. I wonder if it's because I have knowledge of this game or because before TMs, I have 5 ranged attacks spread between Riolu x Fennekin compared to the 2 of Totodile x Chikorita.

Ok, Riolu's weakness is the lack of diagonal attacks that go through corners. When does it learn Aura Sphere, if ever?

At this point I am forced to push my teammates backwards when negotiating corridors with an enemy around the corner.
