It's a legit thing... But you don't have to do it. Just cancel out, and if it forces a log-off, log in again(it rarely happens a second time in a row, and I've never had it happen a third time in a row).
They say it's for account verification purposes... Trying to ensure that you're account hasn't been hacked or anything... But seeing as how I don't have a CC card attached to my account(I don't have gold), and when I checked on xbox's website they say my username has only been present on one Xbox, I'm not entirely sure what the point of it is...

I only have to do it when I log in the first time after I take my account elsewhere, and considering my account regularly bounces between ~5 Xboxes but has no card registered, I log in to my Live account without question.
Microsoft knows my email anyway, why do I have too keep that info from them?

Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.
So I've been recently getting prompts upon attempting to login to Xbox Live, asking me to log in with my email and password. Usually I could cancel and login anyway, but most recently it refused to log me in without doing so.
A quick online check told me that it was probably on the up and up and simply due to some kind of new security feature or something, but I wanted to make absolutely sure lest my account get hacked or something.
Can anyone confirm that this is legit?
