Terry spread his arms. "Jarl. Please. The big bad wolf is right here."

Kat just smiled. "....Remind me to introduce you to some Okami Clan Youkai I know."

"I'll make sure to bring Leon. A shota Western mage is the natural counter for canine youkai."

"I appreciate the vote of confidence and all, but I ideally aim to not be stuck as a ten year old for a prolonged period of time. So you'll have to find some other ten year old wizard. And I'm pretty sure I'm the only one."

"Like Tigger! Are your tops made out of rubber?"

Alex let out a strangled, laugh, his vision starting to blur.

"Hey. No stabbing me. I've been through enough of that already. Save it for the monsters-where did you get a shiv, anyway?"

He let out a breath, his back still turned to the rest of his little group, shaking with relief.

Does she blame me?

His chest was tight-he couldn't tell if it was from fear, or excitement, or relief anymore, and his sister felt very, very light and fragile in his arms. He held her close for a moment longer-still hesitant, unwilling to fully accept it was really her, she was really back, afraid that she would vanish again.

"Sorry. No explosions right now. This is a...friend's castle now, and it would be a bit rude to destroy it. Besides. No military grade-explosives until you're older. I don't even know how you learned about that."

He wiped his eyes on his sleeve, then turned, stoic, calm once more-only his shaking hands, and near death-grip on his sister betraying the mask.

"...I'm...sorry. So very, very sorry. I made a mistake. Several. Actually. We're going home now. Promise."

Bethany frowned up at him and looked around. "I made it, like you taught me. And then I stabbed Peter Pan with it- is that okay? He was being a jerk. And all his boys smell."

She relaxed a bit as he set her down, rubbing her tired eyes. "And no where not. We're going back to the manor or the big building or something. You'd never take us home." She seemed to realize what she said as she put her shiv in her pocket. "It's alright Al. Don't be sad- everyone makes a mistake. Like that time Aiden stole Lelaine's adult magazine or the time Lelaine accidentally shoot you with a crossbow." She put her hand in his. "It's okay to make mistakes. You just have to fix them and make them better afterwards."

Kat looked at Tim and mouthed a silent "In ten years, she's going to murder him and run the city".

Jarl sucked in a deep breath. It was done. All the pieces fell into place. He turned towards the newly christened Jack Frost.

"Hey, boss," he said, letting his voice be heard, "do you need me to help you clean up the place, or should I get these people back? They're going to need a Way." He lifted a finger at Tim. "Before you say anything, you're not in a position to open one safely."

Suddenly he felt a sharp burn in his arm, his other arm snapping up to hold it faster than he thought it was possible to react. Fucking Summer fire, he thought, groaning. Burns right through the mantle.

Tim started to say something but Kat just stuffed her elbow into his side and then raised her shorter sword with a questioning look. "I can...I think."

"Then I suggest we say our goodbyes and get out of here. The more time we spend in the Nevernever the more we expose ourselves to attack" Max said as he moved closer to the group.

"See, while I am nominally in favor of that plan, I do suggest, considering the people around here who are toting injuries and the fact that people need time to recover, physically and emotionally, and that we're in a relatively safe location, I have a suggestion for you, hired muscle to hired muscle. Shut the fuck up."

"Awww, junior is getting testy; that's cute" Max said as he turned to face the young Warden. "Relatively being the key word, plus we've got walking wounded. You can't heal emotionally if you don't make it back."

Tim just gave Max an annoyed look and then turned to the person signing his paycheck. "Mr Thorne, please educate and control your hirelings."

Alex clears his throat, giving a deep, world-weary sigh, finally turning his attention away from his sister, and to his "allies" as they enter. He gently places Bethany down, moving slightly in front of her.

"Is now really the time for posturing, gentlemen?"

He sighs, raising his glasses and rubbing the bridge of his nose with his fingers, voice tired and cold.

"You have your responsibilities, and I have mine, Knight of Frost. I believe you did just offer a Way. My sister recovered, and battle won, I have little need to remain here. I will go and tend to what remains of Las Vegas...and you can begin your new job. Our work here is concluded."

"Except it's not done. There's the elephant in the room still to go. The Seed of the World Tree. The reason we're all still knee-deep in the blood of the Fair Folk. I thought Loki had it, but if he did, he would've used it by now."

"Which means you've still got it, and I'd very much like it back so we can find a bank vault somewhere to keep it in until we can safely move it back to the Tree."

Braden choose this given moment to interject. "Alex, I can't thank you enough for helping me get this far- all of you really- but The Seed is dangerous beyond measure- until I figure out a means to bring it back to this side, I need to appoint a Keeper and layer it in concealments- I have some idea for both in mind, but I need it back first- and it's not that I don't trust you and your family after all that been done- the opposite really- but the more people that know where the Seed is the more at risk it is, and if it should fall into the wrong hands..." He shooks his head. "It could plunge the world into anarchy as bad, worse even, then if Loki had succeeded."

Tim just continued to look at Alex. "Mister Thorne?" he then said almost deceptively calm. "I would hate if it came to blows over this."

"I swear, if we start killing each other after we just won this thing, I'm fucking off to Alaska to stay in wolf form for the rest of my life. Just straight writing off humanity and the adjacent critters."

Tim's stare broke and he looked at Terry. "You are right." His gaze returned to Alex. "Alexander, please return the Seed in good faith. We have all fought enough for this outcome. You run a casino, I think you are familiar with the sentence 'Just one more hand'."

He paused for a moment. "Take your winnings and end the game."

Braden looked around, as if pleading with everyone to retain their higher brain functions. "Please- we can reach an agreement here without threats of violence- can we all agree that enough blood has been spilled today?"

"I would hope we can." Came a familiar, wyry voice- rumbling and strong. "I would hate to think that fools are in my debt."

It was easily the most terrifying sight of the day- Odin, clad in his sharp edged platinum glimmering armor, spear in hand, came through the door to the throne- his bushy white beard slightly singed, by his his broad shoulders as set as ever.

He wasn't alone.

Mab walked- even gate- beside him, her cold face a mask beautiful indifference and contempt- a dress of icey chain main and the cloak and under-armor of a Queen-militant draped over her. There was hollowness to her cheeks and a blackened quality of impatience to her eyes- the look of a woman who had just had a great deal of her time and people's resources wasted. She was accompanied by an attendant- who despite actually not being all that shorter looked small next to the god-like beings...and also eerily familiar despite her heavy WW 2 era combat medic uniform.

On Odin's other side, was another woman- the Emissary from the party, blonde hair tied back into a ponytail, white pants suit unstained. Her expression was unreadable- but she very quickly detached herself from Odin and Mab to stand beside Alex, and the man who had been to her side- the all to familiar Frey, changed out of his battle attire into a crown of leaves and a loose white wrap- which hung as his hips threatening to fall away at any moment- and nothing else, took her place. He walked with a lazy air of confidence- and victory.

"Oh god, there aren't going to be last-minute complications, are there? I just want to go home and get frighteningly drunk. Is that too much to ask?"

Tim simply lowered his head in silence as a way of greeting the new Elegast, and then did his best to straighten himself on his spear while Kat did her best as to blend in the background.

"A sentiment I can appreciate." Odin said- that damn smile wouldn't leave his face. "We shall try to speed you on your way, there are just a few last minute matters that need to be settled."
