Whether or not the cop who claimed it was a crime has cheated on their spouse is rather pointless in regards to the issue, and not worth consideration. What is is that he claimed it was a legally prosecutable crime within Florida when it isn't (As far as I know it's not in any part of the United States) means some sort of misconduct was going on with that policeman in regards to his job. That's what concerns me. Not his personal life.

I've slept in the same bed as two girls who I am not and have never been romantically involved with, before, because it was really cold.

[up][up][up] It doesn't concern me. nor is it important, but it just strikes me as likely that the kind of people to get up in a random women's face about such things is also lilly to have done such things himself. The same way so many vocally anti gay people are discovered to be sneaking it on the side.

[up][up]I'd think most people have, I can think of at least 4 women I've shared beds with but not fooled around with (at least at the time). Sometimes because we only had one bed, sometimes just because. Fun fact, even age the age of 12-13 you can't fit three people into a singe bunk bed without someone getting shoved down the side (luckily not me).

[up] Read the Florida section "In Florida "Living in open adultery" (Art 798.01) as well as "Lewd and lascivious behavior"(Art 798.02) which includes, among others, a man and a woman who "not being married to each other, lewdly and lasciviously associate and cohabit together" are both misdemeanors of the second degree.". That doesn't cover what they'd have being doing even if they had shacked up.

...I love Maryland's punishment for adultery. It's just a $10 fine. I'd pay that.

Don't feel bad, that happens to a lot of guys when it's cold.

...I honestly don't know what you mean by this...

[up] I think it was a joke indicating that the reason you were not involved with the women you shared a bed with was because of the cold making it difficult. But don't hold me to that.

Honestly though, I've shared a bed with more women then men, and I've yet to share a bed with someone I was being intimate with.

Hey, bundling happens. I've split beds with numerous women where nothing steamy happened. And this is me talking. Sometimes there is one bed and two people who want to sleep, both of which are too polite to make the other person hit the floor. It happens.

[up][up] Me neither, though keep in mind that's just my guess, I could be wrong.

[up]I think that's the most common reason, after a party I think I ended up sharing a bed with 3 girls (which I forget about, so my number is now 7 girls and 2 guys). There is normally a limit to the number of beds/sofas you have access to, especially if you're having a party.

[up]Thought it was that 'that feel when no GF and being lead on' pitch'. I'll shut up now

My gut tells me Maryland pass that law when $10 was a lot of money and only the rich could afford Infidelity. Seems ludicrous now but.

I once let so many girls crash in my bed that I ended up sleeping on the floor, under someone's borrowed trench coat. I woke up with a stiff neck, a raw spot on my hip (from the carpet), and the general notion that there was a limit to being gentlemanly.

Anyhow, about those women's issues...

Surprised you were allowed to keep the trenchcoat...

The reason I asked what she was doing in the US in first place was meanly a desire for backstory it's none of our business if she was there to cheat or not and certainly not the border guards.

[up][up] I've had that occur several times, but I'm used to sleeping on floors or other places. Boarding school does that to you (I often locked myself out of my room overnight, though a few times that meant I ended up sleeping in of the girls rooms'), as does sleeping on the bathroom floor when constantly worrying that you're gonna throw up during the night.

Now back to women's issues. Ehhh, do we have any women around? Or could that be an issue? the fact that the women's issues thread has been overrun by men. evil grin

Well, she appears to have been a Canadian who was trying to get to her connecting flight in Florida so she could continue on to an entirely different country. She had absolutely no intent to stay in the US, and was treated abominably for something a man is unlikely to have been stopped for. And had her personal things looked through! And she got the same treatment when she was simply trying to get home; she had to wait two days and find a new flight that didn't go through the US.

That's grade A fuckery going on there.

I am a woman and I'm just appalled by this entire debacle. Also by the fact that this apparently isn't the only time it's happened.

We are here. smile

I wish I could be surprised but a lot of states have laws like this on the books. The bigger problem is mostly the southern states are the ones still enforcing them.

I can't help but wonder if it was the man who was found with condoms would this even be an issue. My instinct says not in the fuck all damndest

[up]Agreed. And, besides... she was still in an international no-man's land. She hadn't technically crossed the borders if she was still in the international flight area of the airport to transfer to another international flight. Ergo: Florida Law? Doesn't apply until she actually crosses into Miami. And, US Federal Law has limited applicability in airports in the international area. Guess which laws? (Hint: national safety.)

In short, were she a European Citizen, she could claim violation of Human Rights under EU statute thanks to holding an EU passport. Somebody needs to update the guards that harassing international citizens has... unpleasant outcomes if they harass the wrong ones in the wrong areas. tongue

And, Canada should be giving Florida more stink.

Exactly. I complained about how Britian had held me in customs for hours without any reason to my American representative who was still in the Airport. Needless to say they were quick to help me file a complaint and were completely supportive that there was no reason why it should have taken so long.

I can only imagine the hell raised if I had been in this situation.

Did you not mention in another thread that you had family that were in the IRA? No offence intended, but that sounds like a pretty solid reason, especially given the amount of support the Provos got from folks in the USA via NORAID.

None of my family are registered or have been arrested.

Manchester never asked me about my family either. They were questioning my headscarf, how credible was my invite (I had been invited to work in the Tate.), and why I only had $300 on me. Never mind I had my salary sheet saying I was going to be making money over there.

My sponser was fighting on the other side of the wall trying to confirm everything I was telling customs. They had been there early to pick me up and freaked when i didn't come off the ramp.

They refused to even allow my sponser to call the specific officer holding me until after 4 hours. The next two hours was them arguing about our answers, even though they matched.

Yeah. Manchester can go screw itself.

The only other time I ever had any problems was on the American side going into Canada with my son. The customs officer was freaking out because my son's passport and both record didn't have anything in the paternal space. That didn't last long because his boss told him to back off and let me through.

Canada is awesome. They aren't easy but they have always treated me like a human. And they are also the only ones who have never said anything about my hair being wrapped up.

This ain't America. The British police have much broader powers of investigation. Still, it does seem wrong what they did to you. I hope it won't put you off returning (but not to Manchester; shithole) smile

I only asked because it doesn't tally with what I've heard from others - namely that our borders are about as secure as Pakistan's nukes and that no-one in the UKBA gives a shit any more.

It was cheaper to fly into Manchester then drive instead of going straight to London.

But yeah, they didn't bring up my family or me being born in Ireland at all. They did spend over an hour asking why a white girl was wearing a headscarf if she wasn't a Muslim. Now they could have been looking behind the scenes and just not be telling me, but they didn't even ask when I was naturalized or anything about Ireland.

But I get held a lot in American flights, so I guess I just look weird.

Yeah, that sounds like you got a couple of racist guys who were working on the assumption that headscarf=Muslim=terrorist, which is stupid. Especially if you've just flown from the US, if you'd come from somewhere dangerous then I could get it a bit, but still.

This reminds me of the time Spooky (a famous Fighting Game Community live-streamer) was returning from Canada after a big game tournament and was detained by DHS. They confiscated all of his game recording and video equipment, game footage, and other stuff (which he has yet to get back, more than a year later).

In case you were wondering, this pic is what he looks like.

At the risk of being melodramatic the UK is a police state. They're polite about it but they definitely have mindset that law and order trumps civil liberties. Frankly I'll take the jackboots thugs or over their insincerity any day.

Anyway I back on topic.
