Ok, so my father (who incidentally is a graphic designer) has been encouraging me start selling my digital artwork on the internet somehow. I'm jobless, and doing VCE (year 11 and 12) art, so I figure I don't have much to lose.

Slight problem however, I'm under 18, and simply have no idea what the best option is to go for. I'm not looking for a huge income, just to make my hours spent drawing on my computer a little more worthwhile. Of course I've considered the option of selling under his name, and that's probably what will end up happening if I do get this started.

Any advice or would be smashing. Thanks in advance.

Wanna see the random crap I get up to? Me neither. http://jesseskwilliams.tumblr.com/

If you have an account on Deviantart you could start doing comissions.

You can (or could) also sell prints on dA.

If you're going to use deviantart, do not use their options for points or prints. You can use it as a way of getting the word of your commissions out there, but do not actually use the site itself. Stick with something like paypal.

The rip off from deviantart is ridiculous, their commission widget automatically takes %20 of anything you make.

Oh, really? I did not know that or I wouldn't have suggested it.

Your dad is a graphic artist...he should tell you where to go.

Otherwise, build your own website is the safest way to sell your art online and build credibility.

I would also recommend taking some of your prints, framing them, and seeing if local businesses will let you hang them for a portion of the profits should you sell them. See if your community has a local artist's league and if they do shows.

Making money local is the key to building something online.
