That part was in the books to help reconcile some of the timeline retcons in the games. I guess they're planning ahead enough (or they think they are) that Khadgar will be at the appropriate age naturally when the time comes. Besides, using special effects to age someone can look kind of terrible.

I saw the movie a week ago, here are my impresion(SPOILER ALERT!)

-as for actors, my favorite is Guldan, there is reason blizaard bring him again in warlord of draneor, the guy is sneaker motherfucker and show it, the scene when he pull in and out the soul of poor bastard was creepy and give him a vibe of meanicing villian, I was somewhat shock when he take his road and show his muscle thinking "That is well kept warlock dosent it", also im the only one who noted a certain Shang tsung vibe on him? I was expecting him to said "your soul is mine" to Durotar

Llane was...ok, I didnt expect more of him, I enjoy Blackhand being more heroic rather than the tool we have in canon, Durotan have more prominent role was obvious consider the only heroic orc for a while was Thrall but Draka totally sold me as concering but totally awsome mother, I mean she bite her atacker and die with knife? fucking total hardcore.

For the rest, Lothar is only human that impress me, Khadgar move to much between endering or annoying, Medivh look stright from power metal cover(I mean really, he just need is own solo) and him being father of Garona(as implied) is....weird, but hey not med`an and that iall right in my book, speaking of Garona, her broken english annoy the hell out of me pretty quickly.

Now for the story...is not really that bad, is clearly how blizzard will tell it now if they could, as it improve the heroism of the orc(who where pretty mindless beast in first game and just organized under Ogrim in the second one) make some chararter more badass and in general try to cram more element of later installment at the begining, so far there was some stupid moments:when they capture the orc only to kill him some moments later, blackhand duel with Lothar and so own but overall the way movie was structure was good.

Also about efects: I like the magic, is quick as it should in own and the scenery is impresive, when Khadgar enter that...cube...thing(really, what was that?) it was one of the best moment in the movie, on the other hand he armour and sword look really plastic, I get they try to set it like the game but it just come as very good cosplay, I think game of throne have better armour...or anything with metal actually.

and the more I see it, think they shoud skip the second war and go right into beyond the dark portal since the second war is more of the same. they cant repeat a plot like that, maybe they can bring more chararter like cho gall, teron gorefriend and all the cast of the expantion.

Medivh look stright from power metal cover

Give him time. In Warcraft III, he'll look like Obi-Wan Kenobi. ;)

A deleted scene from the movie has shown up, featuring some of the orcs discussing the fel, including Grom Hellscream actually getting dialogue. Blackhand also explains why he hasn't accepted Gul'dan's gift.

Didn't they say they cut something like twenty minutes? I think a lot of it was just getting the run time down.

Also, that seems to be from a slightly earlier version of the script. They appear to be on Draenor, at night, at the warcamp. That didn't happen in the final cut; Durotan brought his clan shortly before the portal opened.

Just watched the movie.

I have to say the look and feel of this movie is about right. I never played Wo W but I did play WC 2 and 3.

I have to say it isn't as bad as the critics say. It's a fun time, the plot is neither too confusing or too simple. Some parts may be cliche but there's enough depth to most of the characters.

And the orcs were definitely the best part. The humans were boring. I forgot most of the humans' names, I didn't give a shit about the king, and Lothar was only there to serve as a perspective character IMO. The fact that his son dies... i just couldn't care about that at all. He was obviously just put into the story to die. I didn't care about him at all. The human side was a little messy even though their perspective was basically "gotta defend our kingdom!"

And mage boy... I didn't see a point in him either. He was a plot device vehicle at best. To be honest I would have just cut him and the whole kirin-tor thing completely. Rewrite the Medivh fight a bit, have lothar discover the betrayal himself. Medivh alone would have been enough of an introduction to "magic" for people's first foray into the Warcraft world.

Medivh... i don't know if it was the acting or the directing, but he just felt so wooden.

The elves might have needed a little more CG; their ears looked too rubbery.

Overall the look and feel was great, action was fantastic, but the acting from the humans and some of the dialogue could have definitely used some more work.

Khadgar actually becomes very important by World of Warcraft, so he's not just a plot device.

That's basically irrelevant, a movie needs to stand on its own. I'm not waiting until Warcraft Movie 6 comes out to review this movie.

He either needed to be cut, or rewritten with better development.

While the chararter feel weird, having lother discover medivh just turn this into his movie, instead of "Aliance vs Horde" also Lothar already have his own plot, not need to give it another one

I would have rather they made Lothar a minor character and have Khadgar be the main protagonist. If they ever plan on making a sequel (especially one with Turalyon and Uther), it's far more imperative for Khadgar to be developed than Lothar.

Though if we're talking sequels I would much rather they just sum up the second war and Outland expedition and just skip to Arthas and and the Legion's second invasion which are ultimately far more interesting.

[up]But unlike as the second war is what make the defeat of orc and the imprision, to rush into Arthas they could just start with him already

My point is that if they want a hypothetical sequel to draw in the audience, they can't do more of the same and the exodus of the Orcs, Arthas' downfall, the Burning Legion, and the Night Elves just have way more story potential than just more Humans vs. Orcs does. They could do the invasion of Draenor but that requires set up from the second war.

[up]But with Arthas there is also parallel with Thrall, also you will end with Guldan dead off-screen? that s not way

Gul'dan went out like a wuss in the game canon too, it's not something that couldn't be montaged. Also, Arthas is a horrible parallel to Thrall. Jaina or even Varian work much better in that regard.

[up]Guldan ge a expsanion adaption in the movie, hell he have goten more in games too, having dying off screen after building off would be a waste

And Arthas is perfect parallel for Thrall, he is for the race of demon workship and restore him to what they are, Arthas as noble warrior and champion to the light and instead bring darkness and create the undead, it fit with the idea of both party being capable of good and evil

Pretty sure they're building Gul'dan up as the big bad to be taken down by Thrall in the sequel

Putting the games aside, that's where the narrative of the first movie seems to be pointing

Yeah, plus they've still got to burn Stormwind to the ground, then Stormwind needs to be retaken, before we get to the Lich King.

Don't forget Gul'Dan has to make his own set of Death Knights! And don't forget Ner'zul. He is the origin of Lich King. He either needs to be introduced, or if Gul'Dan takes his place in the narrative, should be properly replaced by Gul'dan.

They could probably cover some of the events of Warcraft 3 and not have more of the same while still paying off on the foreshadowing set up by the first movie. Have Thrall overthrow Gul'dan and in a desperation move, Gul'dan would summon Archimonde requiring the Alliance and Horde to work together (basically the ending of Warlords of Draenor come to think of it).

Eh, I suspect that a second movie would focus on Gul'dan's search for the Tomb of Sargeras (revealing this as his actual motive), while both Lothar and Garona lead some forces to track him down because reasons. They could also use this to introduce the Darkspear trolls or even the night elves earlier in the story, as a third faction that is decidedly not happy about a bunch of orcs showing up in their turf.
