Not sure how I feel about this. I won't lie; my religious beliefs have become increasingly more conservative in recent years, but I never read the Left Behind books or watched the movies. They seemed more tailored to a very specific denomination of Christianity. Supposedly, however, this movie will have more "broad appeal", whether that means it will resonate more with non-denominationals like me or just have anything challenging and controversial ripped out of it and become another generic disaster movie remains to be seen.

Interestingly, it seems it has the same writers as the original films.

They're seriously doing this? I've read all the Left Behind books and they're worthless. Bafflingly, when the book authors, Tim laHaye and Jerry B. Jenkins write on their own, they're great! Together, not so much. When you manage to make the Antichrist more likable than the main characters, you've failed.

[up]Actually, he needs a lecture on fiscal responsibility, since that's what gets him into these movies most of the time.

Can't be on too high a pay packet if the budget for this travesty is a mere fifteen million dollars.

[up] I was just thinking about that.

[up][up] Perhaps Cage has recently converted to evangelical Christianity but never bothered to make an announcement.

(No personal opinion on either, never had any interest in reading them. Talking purely about general public opinion.)

Or, alternately, it's just a paycheck.

[up] That was already discussed, but as Tam H 70 pointed out, the movie's budget is relatively small.

Maybe he just takes crazy roles to keep his reputation for taking crazy roles.

He may well make this awesome.

I am skeptical. The source material is so deficient, I don't see how even Nick Cage can possibly pull it off.

Not to mention unpopular with the usual movie audience crowd.

Again, this movie is supposed to have a more broad appeal than the original books. In which case it will probably be similar to how it is with most religious movies; critics will hate it, audiences will love it.

Unless it winds up being just another generic disaster movie.

This has the potential to be the greatest thing if, and only if, they cast nick cage as the antichrist.

I think it is just because of Drive Angry and Ghost Rider.

Nic Cage chooses the best and worst movie roles given to him. He probably saw the script, opened up to a scene where he needs to say some Narmy line, and was all like "SIGN ME UP!!!"

...of course, considering this is on IMDB without any other new source, I call malarkey on this one.

Nic Cage has to be a Chewing the Scenery Nicolae Carpathia. Make it so!

Hmm. That may work. But I fear that they will cast him as the hero instead.

I believe he is to be cast as Rayford Steele, an airline pilot who is on a transatlantic flight when the Rapture happens. I find it funny that a book written by born-again Christians has a main character with a name like a gay porn star. He meets his fellow gay porn star hero and chosen one Buck Williams on the flight.

Nic, Nic, Nic, why are you so silly as not to take the plum role? Why?
